Chapter 00003

Chapter Three: Fire And Ice Phil placed her gently on the king-sized bed and carefully took off all the expensive wedding jewelry and dress. He was after all a gentleman who would prefer his mate well-rested and involved in the mating process. He was going to mate and mark her later; and mate her as many times as he would ever want. But for now, she needed her rest. While Vera rested, Phil felt like taking a walk to clear his head. He had a lot of emotions running through his entire being. And if he weren’t some Alpha with a lot of responsibilities, this would have been the best time to leave the pack to find clarity. Life seemed to be happening so fast right now. Three months to find a lady. Three months to be sure that she was the one his heart longed for. Three goddamn months to fall in love with her. And three months to make her his Luna. ‘Had love become that cheap? Something to be denigrated into months and days’ he heard himself think out loud. His pace was getting faster now, and this walk was slowly breaking into a jog. ‘Perhaps love wasn’t worth all the space it got in the heart. Perhaps love was for the weak’ He could feel the rage seethe. But he couldn’t place a hold on the exact reason why he was enraged. It had to be one out of the massive weight of responsibilities that came with being Alpha, the new Luna he had to pretend to love all the days of his life, or until she was able to get him an heir, or the fact that his heart still ached from Lucy’s rejection. He hated that even though Lucy didn’t care anymore about him, he still did. He hated that somewhere within his heart, there was an emptiness that needed to be filled. He hated to feel that emptiness. As the rage he felt increased, his pace also did, and taking no thought of the exquisitely tailored shirt he had worn down the aisle with a few hours ago, his bones began to creak, In a few minutes he was going to shift. His wolf had been summoned by all the rage he had to deal with. It was already evening, and the sky, though empty, had a few persistent stars, and a half moon, that struggled to be seen between the many clouds along its path. “An Alpha without a Luna can only go as far” “Your Luna will make you stronger” “Your enemies will come for your life, and if you have no one waiting for you at home, you’ll easily surrender it” “Your wolf needs a Luna to be vulnerable with. All this pent-up strength will take away your humanity faster than you know it.” “Respectfully speaking sir, you need a Luna. And you will know her when you find her. The problem is that you aren’t trying” “You can’t be the one for me, Phil. Not yet” The voices of every rejection and pressure he had ever gotten made their way back to his consciousness with every bone that creaked. And while the moon watched in ecstasy, this Alpha was growing thick skin. Healing from everything that made him seem weak. The glow from his eyes was a different hue of blue now. Something tougher, more authoritative, and fierce. His Dad had been right all along about getting a Luna and the magic of the first kiss. “You see, Phil. The moon goddess wanted to ensure that an Alpha never stayed without a mate for too long, so she locked up a part of their abilities until their first kiss. As Alpha, there will be no bounds to your power when you get yourself a Luna.” Phil’s father takes a long pause to be sure that he is paying attention, then continues. “I was just a normal Alpha until I found my Luna” Phil’s howl reverberated through the woods that night, signaling to every wolf and human who knew wolf signals that an Alpha had just been unlocked. Members of the black diamond responded with affirmative howls from their homes, and everyone who had a mate cuddled a little bit tighter. They could let down their guards a bit more now, knowing they had an alpha capable enough to protect them from the danger of invaders. However, like Yin is to Yang, good to bad, tonight, Phil’s howl also unleashed a dreaded danger, one that was going to become his new nemesis- Alpha Hon. king of the Rogue pack, Armageddon, Hon, brother to the former Alpha of the Black Diamond pack, Roy, had always had a questionable character. Then one day, in an unexplainable turn of events, Roy was found dead in the woods. Shortly after, his heir, a two-year-old werewolf struggling to balance childhood and insatiable wolf cravings, went missing too. Every search expedition proved futile, and it was concluded that he probably might have drowned and washed away to a distant place by the sea currents. BlackDiamond Pack couldn’t stay long without an alpha, so the council met to decide who would replace the Alpha. “Hon does not have the qualities to lead this pack. He is erratic and does not often think before he acts.” A council member said. “But he is a trueblood, and he has the Alpha blood running through him,” Someone reminded the first speaker. “He is indeed a trueblood, but so is every other member of this council. Yes, we are not Alpha materials, but what our pack needs now isn’t just an Alpha, but a protector. Someone who will restore the respect we once had” “Remember he has also gone rogue, and a rogue cannot be our Alpha. Not now, not ever!” The last speaker said, banging his clenched fist on the marble-plated large half-moon-shaped table. He seemed to specifically have something against Hon. His name was Bradd Justin. That day, Hon lost the chance to ever be Alpha of the Black Diamond pack. The council knew how much of a vengeful lot Hon could be, but they were not afraid of what he could do. It was the well-being of the pack that was at stake, and it didn’t matter how vengeful Hon might be, a strong Alpha would put him in check. “There are not many wolves who can boast of your kind of leadership, strength, and loyalty.” The grandest council member began. It was the official naming of a new Alpha, and they had found someone they knew could lead the Black Diamond pack to glory, Ray Hammerstock. But this was the start of the greatest battle the Black Diamond pack was going to face. Hon, in his desperation, took out the Alpha of the rogue pack he had joined, assumed the position of Alpha, and vowed to end the Black Diamond Pack. “They stripped me of everything I worked so hard to achieve.” His tone rose slowly, “Let my name be wiped off from the earth if I ever let this grudge go.” His tone had now risen. With the aura of a Roman general ready to take an empire, he said to the blood-thirsty rogue wolves that served as his pack members, “With you all by my side, we will take back what is rightfully ours!” Bloodthirsty howls rent the air. The monster was born. Alpha Hon’s first point of call was the Black-diamond borders. His rogues killed every one of the border patrol werewolves and claimed the territory. But Hammerstock fought back fiercely, leading the Blackdiamond pack to brave victories and conquests until they had reclaimed every territory and almost vanquished the Armageddon rogue pack. Hon was defeated, fled, and had been in hiding until tonight. Phil’s howl reignited the hate he had for the Black Diamond pack. Shifting to his full wolf form, Hon stamped and pranced around the darkly lit underground tunnel he had converted into his asylum in the last eighteen years. “Prepare! Prepare! Prepare!” Phil howled, breaking every piece of tree trunk, concrete, and shrub within his reach. “Prepare to be bleached red by the blood of a premature Alpha, o moon goddess. For. I. will. have his head on a stake soon,” Hon said. Turning to the other wolves, wide-eyed and excited by the display of rage, Hon said, “The day has finally come.” We have an alpha to kill”
