Chapter 00007

Phil's pov "These rogues are a threat to my Pack" I sneered. "They only killed two wolves Alpha, it could have been a random attack" Alpha Keith, head of the moonbliss Pack said calmly. "An attack where two of my wolves were brutally killed with their insides spread across the floor right in front of my borders is what you call a random attack?" My voice boomed as my nostrils flared. "What Alpha Keith is trying to say is that we haven't had any recurrence or any other reports from the nearby Packs," another alpha said with an even tone. "Then it would seem they have made my Pack their sole target" I argued. "You have no proof to back that up. We can't draw such a drastic conclusion merely from two killings" Alpha Keith reasoned and although I knew he was probably right I couldn't help the rage which cursed through me. "It shows that the rogues are getting stronger and before long they will attack not just my Pack members but all of us" I explained heatedly. "Alpha Phil, you are being hysterical" Alpha Keith barked. "With how adamant you are that it was random, one can only suspect that you may have a hand in it" I announced and a low buzz broke out in the room. I had arrived merely two days ago at the southern moon block and all efforts I made to gain any useful information had proved futile all I was met with was a dead end so when I heard a meeting was being held between some visiting Alpha, I knew this wasn't an opportunity I could miss. "Silence" another voice boomed loud and clear with authority and snapped everyone's attention. A short old man with wrinkled skin and snow white hair slowly walked up, using a crooked stick to support his movement. "This is the southern moon block and I demand order. You both won't come here and disrupt the peace between the blocks" he levelled stern gazes at both Alpha Keith and I. "If you desire answers, young man go to the Cisther. They have all the answers anyone may seek but at a cost" he informed me. "Where will I find this Cisther?" I questioned. "A few miles behind the Alpha hall to the east" he divulged as I committed all his words to memory with a nod of gratitude. "The next time you try to insinuate I am a traitor Phil I wouldn't be so forgiving" Alpha Keith growled but I ignored him. His bark was far worse than his bite from what I had heard so there was nothing to worry about. "Noted Alpha" I replied with a sly grin to tell him I was not at all intimidated by his threats. The meeting moved on to other matters which were discussed for the betterment of our various Packs and before long the meeting was adjourned. "Are we still scheduled to return home tonight Alpha?" My gamma asked me, reminding me of our earlier plans of departure when we made no progress in our investigation. "No, we are going to Cisther this night" I informed him and without another word I changed into my wolf and dashed away, knowing he would obediently follow behind me. We arrived within the hour, the small cottage lay in the middle of nowhere, and looked deserted. Changing into my human form, I made my way up the steps leading to the front door undeterred. "I don't think anyone is here Alpha" My gamma looked around wearily. Before I could reply, the front door swung open and a cool breeze caressed my skin. The room was pitch black and the wood underneath our feet creaked as we delved deeper. My wolf was on high alert and I swiveled around when the door shut with a loud thud. "Who is there?" I growled lowly. "I should be the one asking the questions" a coarse female voice echoed in the room a moment before the lights came on. I turned around, trying to find the owner of the voice. "Wolves, interesting" a short chubby woman with a double chin and brunette hair pushed off a wall and slowly walked towards me. "Who are you?" I asked again. "Erica and who are you?" She quirked a brow at me. "Alpha Phil" I replied. "Ahh yes, Phil...alpha of the black diamond Pack" she grinned widely at me as her eyes sparked with recognition. "How do you know me?" I furrowed my brows. "I've been waiting for your visit for a while. I admit I thought you had given up and would not seek me out" she commented. "That doesn't answer my question" My lips turned downwards. "The more you know Phil, the higher at risk your Pack is," she said vaguely. She flashed her hands and a green light flickered at her fingertips. "You are a witch" understanding dawns on me. "Not a witch Phil. I've just been trained with the books of Ancestry" she explained. "Those books are a myth" I retorted and they were. Stories about those books were told to make children quiver, they couldn't possibly be real. "Phil, there's so much you don't understand" she strolled away from me. "I think I made a mistake coming here. I doubt you can help me" I turned on my heels to leave. "Wouldn't you like to know who wants you dead?" Her words stopped me in my tracks. "No one wants me dead" I turned back to her. "Yet you stopped at my words" Her lips cracked into a mocking smile. "Mere curiosity" I shrugged. "Those wolves are the first of many that are going to die until you relinquish your title as Alpha" she revealed. "Who is behind the attack?" I asked her. "I have to let fate run it's course without interference" she commented and I clenched my fists. "What good are you to me if you can't provide me with the information I need?" I gritted out. "The real question isn't who Phil... it's when" she replied with that sick grin still on her face. "You still haven't told me anything useful" I crossed my hands in front of my chest. "I would of course require something in return Phil, it is the way of the world," she said and for a moment I imagined choking her fat neck till she revealed whatever it was she knew but I knew that was unwise and would cause me more problems than I already had. "What do you want?" I c****d my head to the side as I regarded her. "A favour" she simply said. "What sort of favour?" I inquired. "For the information you seek to gain I would require your heir to stay with me for the first ten years of his life and learn of ancestry," she announced. "You must be mad if you think I'll agree to that" I sneered but she chuckled undeterred. "The knowledge of the books have to be passed on to Phil" she said in a way of explanation. "Why my son?" I furrowed my brows. "Some things are better left unsaid," she shrugged. "No" I simply said before turning on my heels and walking out the door. "You'll be back Phil" she called out to me.
