I take the envelope and pull out the contents and I open the letter on top it’s hand written by one of them

“Hey baby girl, sorry we can’t be there today, we are building a new orphanage in Africa but we wanted you to have this. Everyone in our family receives the same thing when they come of age. We will visit you soon when we return from Africa. Love you Ashley we really really do xxxx”

I read it out loud then put it to the side, opening the next letter. Inside is trust fund information. My eyes nearly fell out of my head, I had to count the zeros, I nearly passed out when I realised it’s a billion dollars. Not a million a damn billion. I knew they were billionaires but I had no idea they were this damn rich. Another letter is attached with my name on it, it’s a share in the family energy business. I drop the stuff on the table and look through the rest of the stuff. I have a share in the entire moon enterprises, the keys and alarm systems for all the family homes all over the world.

“I don’t need all this”

Nan rolls her eyes and shakes her head

“Nobody does but we all get it. You have already probably added $15000 to that from the time you opened it. The money that you make from the shares will be added to your trust fund every month, Arden takes the tax off before he shares it out. Once it’s in that account it’s yours. Thankfully you don’t need to worry about tax or anything because they do it for us. The benefits of having genuses for family”

I pull out my phone and text my family and thank them for everything. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to understand the compassion they have for family, even those who are not blood related. Most people struggled with grandma lily because she likes things a certain way but I honestly loved her and Drake both. They have always been so kind to me and treated me as their own from the moment I met them.

“Thank you all so much. It’s completely over the top and way too much but I appreciate it all. I love you guys”

I feel a tugging at my shirt so I turned to see Carly holding a present that she obviously wrapped herself

“What’s this?”

“It’s a pwesant fo you from us”

I smile pulling her on my knee and taking it

“We made da wrap paper too”

I grin at her

“It’s so pretty will I open it?”

“Yessss”

She squeals so I pull it apart, inside is a little colourful rope bracelet with a small silver plaque in the middle that read sister, she held up her little hand to show me hers

“I got the same one wook”

More tears come to my eyes and I hug her

“You know what, I think this is the best present I've ever gotten. I love it so much”

She hugs me back then I take it out and pull it on and take a picture with it around my wrist beside hers.

She jumps down and runs off to play as I wipe more tears from my eyes

“Damn you cry a lot”

“I know, I’m a wreck”

I answer pops who laughs, Lucy stands up taking my hand

“Come on, let’s smoke and let the boys clean up”

She winks and I laugh taking her hand and following her out, we lay side by side on the daybed I rest my head on her shoulder and she holds my hand

“Are you actually ok to go back to Coby mountain? Like really?”

I sigh and shrug

“I’m ok to stay with mark. I’m ok to do online classes. I’m ok with not going back to the school but I’m afraid the pack will never accept me”

She sighs squeezing my arm

“I know how that feels, but remember you always have a home here and it might take time but they will accept you. From what I see it’s only the girls your age that are unwilling to accept you but when you put them in there place they will”

And that’s the other problem, how can I put them in their place when I can’t fight with them. Train with them. I need to be able to defend myself against them and the rogues who are constantly coming to attack. The place is like a mind field because it’s right on the border.

“I can’t fight like you do, I can fight from what i've learned here but i've no idea if they try to challenge me if I would be able to actually win”

“He’s still not letting you train?”

I shake my head taking a drag of my joint she sighs doing the same

“Well let’s change that then, I’ll talk to him, he will when he realises how dangerous it is for you not to train”

I smiled and cuddled closer, she was warm and I was cold. She was my home.

4 months later…

Life has gotten easier since we made the change to online learning. We graduated a month after starting it and the rest of the time was spent training and learning how to be alpha and Luna. This pack was different from mine, the laws were different too and it was a little hard to get used to but I got there in the end, I hadn’t seen much of Aine and her gang of twinkies since and when I did they had been polite. They even apologised but I didn’t buy it. Lucy had convinced Mark to let me train with the pack, he agreed but only let me fight mated males and I was getting really good at it. They fought differently here too, less aggressive but they didn’t mind me being that bit more aggressive. I was small so I needed to hit harder to win. I’ll give them credit they trained me extra everyday, after Lucy explained to Mark that I needed to win a challenge if the girls from the pack tried anything, after that he stepped up and made sure I did extra training everyday and I loved it.

Tomorrow was Mark’s birthday and he was taking me away for the night. The ceremony would be in a few months time but we had taken over most of the duties but mark requested that we have a few months after he turns 18 before we take over because his parents would be moving away, they were going to travel around with maddie doing online learning and finally settle in Bora Bora.

“Where are we going? It’s your birthday not mine, why are you surprising me?”

He takes my hand and kisses it, we had been driving for over an hour and I knew we weren’t going home and I couldn’t think where else we could be going

“We are nearly there and I know it’s my birthday but I wanted us to be alone”

We stop outside a gate and he presses a button. It had started to get a lot warmer now, the electric fence opened up and we drove up a dirt road. On each side of the road there are fields packed full of horses. There is a huge barn and riding arenas all over the place And right at the end was small cabins, around 10 of them it was beautiful

“Where is this?”

“Fay inherited it, instead of selling it they turned it into a ranch get away for the packs. They built log cabins and they rented them out. They have people work here all year round, they breed the race horses and sell them and then they have the retired horses retrained as trek horses. I've never been here before but it’s very popular. I thought it would be a nice place to spend the night plus the humans are use to wolves roaming around as long as they don’t eat the horses''

He chuckles, I smile he will have his first shift tonight. His wolf Maddox had started to talk to him last night, he already recognised me as his mate which is cool, I was looking forward to seeing what he looks like, my wolf was all black like my family line. All the people in my family had black wolves but werewolves were different. They had different wolves so I was excited to meet him.

We arrived at the end of the road and stopped outside a cabin right on a small lake beside the forest. I grin jumping out as a woman walks out from the cabin with a genuine smile on her face.

“Hey I’m Alice, here are your keys. Your dinner is in the oven keeping warm. If you are going to shift I ask that you don’t eat my horses please”

I laugh taking them and shaking her hand with my other hand.

“I’m Ashley and this is mark”

She laughs shaking her head

“I know who you are, in fact I know who you all are. Once someone is born into the family we get your name and picture so if any of you just turn up that we accommodate and help you in any way we can. So I know all about you both, it’s your birthday tomorrow right?”

Mark steps forward shaking her hand

“Yes it is”

“Ok we’ll when you shift do it by your cabin, we have no humans staying at the moment and any wolves that are here will understand if they hear you. I better go. I need to get back and feed my own kids. I’ll see you tomorrow for breakfast at the canteen”

She waves and walks off so I take the key and open the door. It's an open plan cabin with a huge wood burning fire in front of the sofa, a tv hung above it and behind the sofa was a large king size bed. The kitchenette was small but had everything you would need. The table was set in front of sliding glass doors overlooking the lake. It was small but beautiful, the dark wood walls and floor mixed with the cream and white furnishings made the place warm and inviting. The smell of lasagna and garlic filled my nose and made my stomach rumble. Mark chuckles behind me as he brings in our bag

“We should eat on the deck and watch the sun go down”

He smiles as he brings the bag to the bed laying it on top, I look for plates and pull out the food plating up a large portion each with extra garlic bread and fresh salad. It smelled exquisite. I pull out the soda and fill our glasses then bring everything to the table as Mark opens the door. I bring the food out to the deck table and chairs and smile

“Just in time for the sun set”

I grin, taking a seat and digging into my food. I moan as I eat, mark smirks taking a bite but soon he’s like me and we devour our food hardly coming up for air

“Damn that’s amazing, remind me to get the recipe so I can make it at home”

I moan In agreement, not even taking a minute to answer him. We finish at around the same time and I lay back and sigh. It was nice to be away from everything and everyone, Mark was my everything but taking over a pack was a lot. I’d do anything for him though and I understand this is his birthright so I would stand by his side and lead with him. But if he decided to throw it all away I would walk away with him. I didn’t want to be Luna but I was born to be so I had to suck it up and deal with it.

He clears his throat so I look to him and frown he looks nervous

“What’s up?”

He takes my hand and kisses it and he sits up straighter, he looked extremely serious so I mirrored him and straightened out my back.

“The day I met you I knew we had something special even before you called on Maddox. But when you did I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy. And every day since you have changed my life and accepted me for what and who I am. You moved across the country and put up with bullying, you put up with so much s**t and you still stood by my side and now I want you to know that you won’t need to deal with it anymore because when we take over the pack they won’t ever bother you again. I love you so much Ashley. Will you marry me?”

I looked down at my hand where he had slid a white gold diamond engagement ring on my ring finger. My emotions bubble up and I sob happy tears nodding me head unable to talk

“Is that a yes?”

His eyes are wide, his smile large asp I take a breath

He jumps up off his seat and he pulls me into his arms. “I’m fine. He will calm down after he gets a good run don’t worry”

I pat his chest happily

“Fine! Ashley you are covered in bruises and cuts”

“I will heal, he’s just excited. Come on, don't let it annoy you. What do you want to watch”

I ask him trying to distract him from the issue, He growls clearly annoyed but he drops it, I don't see the issue. He's a wolf and he wanted to claim me, in my eyes That's a good thing. We watched a movie in front of the fire and by the time it’s 12 on the dot my bruises and cuts were gone. Lycan healed a lot faster then werewolves, and I hated it when mark healed me, I could see his energy drain every time so I never let him do it unless I broke a bone or cut myself to deep. As 12 hit I jumped on him straddling him and I kissed his lips softly pulling back. We didn’t do gifts. We did day trips and experiences, hikes and holidays. Presents to me didn’t mean what they meant to others. I grew up with less and I only ever remember the trips I took, the meal I ate or the sunset I watched so when we met we agreed no gifts.

He grins pulling my head back and sinking his lips against mine groaning as sparks lit up my face making me shiver. They were more intense than they were before. Mark growls, deepening the kiss. Like his spine separates and rearranges painfully then the crack and pop of his muscles and bones as they change and warp into a huge black wolf. He’s enormous. Jaxon said that might happen, he’s mated to a Lycan and now holds my dna so his wolf would be more Lycan then it would be werewolf. He was enormous for a werewolf

I stand up in shock, his head is a head higher than me.

“Your enormous, like really f*****g huge”

He licks my face making me chuckle, I wrap my arms around his neck and cuddle him then I step back and give myself over to Ali. It only takes a few seconds and my enormous black wolf stands side by side with our mate, he’s actually a little bigger than us. He licks us a little then we take off through the trees racing together, playing and tumbling around in the mud. By the time we were done we were both exhausted falling into bed and conking out immediately.

As we drove up the driveway mark had no idea about the surprise party his parents insisted on having. It was a whole big thing and I was dreading it but I was also excited to show everyone my new bling. As we drove up I rolled my eyes. They hadn’t even bothered to hide the cars, he frowned and looked at me, I looked out the window avoiding his gaze.

“They have a party arranged don’t they”

I groan, I wouldn’t lie to him, not when he asks me out straight

“Yes I told them not to but they didn’t listen, you would think the royal family would have enough damn brain cells to realise they had to hide the cars too. f*****g idiots.”

I rant making him laugh

“Well at least we can tell everyone the good news at the same time?”

I smile and take his hand nodding my head

“Yes your right but if they ask I did not ruin the surprise they did”

I could just hear the lecture from Sophie already but if she knows it was her fault she won’t say anything, living in denial. We pull up and hop out of the car, he takes my hand and we walk into the house and towards the very quiet kitchen. I prepare myself for the shock even though I know it won’t matter I’ll still nearly s**t myself.

As we walk in the place erupts in cheers making us both scream in shock, I clutch my chest as my heart hammers and I gasp for breath. I push back tears, I’m not sure why but shock always makes me tear up like a baby.

When the shock was over we were suddenly pulled into a group hug by the family everyone including Nan and pops were here. I smiled as they pulled me aside to give me extra cuddles and kisses. The crowd cleared outside and Lucy engulfed me in a hug

Jaxon and Scott were behind her waiting patiently to see my ring. I held up my hand grinning

“Damn that’s pretty, Congratulations I’m so happy for you”

They hug me tightly

I smile as Scott pulls us both tight into a bear hug

She licks her lips making me laugh, I set her down and she runs off as Noah barrels through the crowd lifting me up in a tight hug

“I’m so happy and so damn proud of you both, come on we need to tell everyone”

I giggle as he pulls me through the crowd to a very annoyed looking Mark

“What’s wrong?”

His face softens and he pulls me into a hug

“Just hate all this stuff but it’s better now you're by my side”

I smile and rest in his arms as Noah clears his throat and taps a glass. Mark smiles taking my hand

“Listen up everyone. Mark and Ashley have something to share with us all so quiet down”

I feel the heat rise to my cheeks as Mark pulls me on stage by his side. When we are up my stomach rolls at the sheer volume of people attending the party including the kids that bullied me. Although Aine wasn’t here so at least there was that. Mark takes his spot on centre stage and clears his throat

“As you all know I found my mate a few years ago, Ashley and she’s been by my side ever since so last night I made it official and I asked her to marry me and she said yes!”

The crowd erupts in cheer, he turns and kisses me, I melt under his touch, as I pull back Maddox pushed forward kissing me harder

“We love you Ashley”

He grumbles, I smile wrapping my arms around his shoulders

“We love you too, both of you”

I kiss him again then he stops and pulls back sniffing the air and a feral ferocious growl rips through his chest silencing everyone he look at me and sniffs me touching my face and seems to relax a little

“Your still mate”

I frown, pulling back and sniffing the air. I had no idea what he meant until he growled again, pulling me behind him. His aura shoots out and pushes the crowd back. His grip on me tightens as I look to where he’s looking growling louder

“Maddox what is it?”

“Her”

He growls pointing through the crowd to Aine who has her nose in the air. She looks nervously between us both and then it hits me.

Fuck no!
