Chapter 20
Josef and the guards continued to battle the creatures, finding it easy to dispatch individuals but much harder to stem the surge. New creatures were pouring through the portal more quickly than they could be dispatched. The sheer weight of numbers was forcing Josef and the guards back towards Daniel. As it was he was working on the portal from further away he would have liked, if he was pushed back much further he would be unable to maintain a connection and the portal would remain open.
For a moment he considered stopping what he was doing, turning his attention, and his powers, to the creatures. He decided against it. He had no idea how many of the creatures still remained, and closing the portal was about more than just stemming this one attack. He needed to be able
