Chapter 12
Sarah tensed as she heard the courtyard door open, her hand going to the sword hilt. She’d borrowed a scabbard and was wearing it as a normal sword whilst in the courtyard, unwilling to hide its true purpose. Then she heard Josef call out and she relaxed, though she still grabbed Mary and stopped her daughter from rushing ahead. Until she saw Josef she wasn’t going to let Mary go.
Josef stepped out, the smile on his face when he saw Mary only helping to accent the tension underlying it. Then Daniel stepped into sight and Sarah let herself relax fully. She let her daughter go, and Mary charged to the two men, leaping at Josef who pulled her up and into his arms while Daniel smiled. Then Daniel stepped past, motioning Sarah towards a corner of the courtyard where Mary was
