Chapter 13
Daniel stepped into the shadows of an alley just before a large patrol rounded the corner. Even without his senses extended he’d have heard the noise they made. He didn’t know how they planned to creep up on anyone like that. Of course, maybe that was the point. Maybe they didn’t want to see anything that would mean they had to chase… and potentially die horribly.
They marched straight past Daniel’s hiding place without noticing anything, only glancing around enough to be sure they weren’t about to be ambushed. Daniel shook his head, disappointed but not surprised. He’d seen the same several times already, and the sun had only set an hour before.
