Chapter 14
Daniel let his mind relax, ready to both fight and use his power. Those outside the room drew nearer, then there was a pained yell.
“Zachary! No! You can’t be… Jade! Where’s Jade?”
Moments later an elderly man appeared in the doorway, a large axe in his hand. He stared at Daniel, then glanced around the room and saw Jade. With a yell he raised his axe high and charged into the room.
“Grandpa! No!” shouted Jade.
Thoughts flew through Daniel’s mind. He couldn’t sense any darkness from the man, and the axe showed no signs of containing a demon, but he couldn’t be completely sure. Weighted against that was the fact he was probably going to end up killing or maiming an innocent man.
