CHAPTER 1
Chapter One: The Letter I Hid Beneath the Moonlight
I wrote him a letter the night the stars stopped speaking to me.
The ink was still wet when the wind blew it off my windowsill, but I caught it—folded it fast like a secret—and pressed it between the pages of a book I no longer read.
I didn’t dare send it.
Not to him.
Not to the Night King who once kissed my neck and called me his fate.
I was an omega, hidden in a village that hated my kind.
I was never meant to be seen. Never meant to be touched.
But he did both—once.
And then he vanished.
That was five years ago.
Now the moon is cracked and bleeding.
And last night, someone broke into my cottage.
They didn’t steal food.
They didn’t take the coins hidden under my bed.
They took the letter.
The one I never sent.
The one only he would understand.
---
I ran my fingers along the spine of the old book, feeling the absence like a bruise. My breath caught in my throat. I whispered to the shadows of my room, “This isn’t happening.”
But it was.
Because I heard his name in the woods last night.
Because the wind carried the scent I’ve never forgotten.
Because fate never truly lets go—not when you’ve been marked.
---
I stepped outside barefoot, moonlight washing over me like a memory. The trees whispered, and something inside me trembled.
He was close.
I could feel it.
The cursed vampire who once tasted my blood,
and whispered promises like prayers.
Valerian.
---
And now…
he had my letter.
