Four Weeks Pregnant!
Four Weeks Pregnant
Elena sat inside her car outside the hospital, staring at the pregnancy test result trembling between her fingers.
Pregnancy Test: Positive.
Estimated Gestational Age: Four Weeks.
She read the words again, hoping they would somehow change.
They didn’t.
Four weeks pregnant.
She was going to have another child.
Five years after giving birth to Adrian, she was carrying another baby, yet instead of the happiness she imagined most mothers would feel, a knot of fear had settled deep inside her stomach.
Her wolf stirred beneath her skin, reacting to the emotions she was struggling to control. Elena closed her eyes and drew in a slow breath, trying to calm herself, but her wolf already knew what was happening. So did she.
And that was exactly what frightened her.
She loved Adrian more than anything in the world, but raising a child as the Luna of Blackthorn had never been simple. Their pack was one of the oldest and most powerful in the country, and being the Alpha’s Luna meant living with the knowledge that enemies could come for her simply because of the blood running through her veins.
A child would only make that danger worse.
An innocent baby wouldn’t understand pack politics, rival Alphas, territorial disputes, or the enemies its father had made over the years. The child would only know that it was loved, never realizing that its father’s enemies might one day see it as a weakness.
And in her world, vulnerability could get you killed.
Elena lowered her gaze to the result again.
For one terrifying moment, she considered going back inside the hospital and asking the doctor to end the pregnancy before anyone knew.
The thought barely formed before she imagined Alejandro finding out.
Her husband would tear the hospital apart.
Not because he was cruel to her. Alejandro had never been cruel to Elena. He was simply the kind of Alpha who didn’t believe in mercy when someone threatened what belonged to him.
His family was his territory.
His pack was his responsibility.
And his Luna and children were under his protection.
If anyone touched them, they answered to him.
Alejandro Vargas was the Alpha of the Blackthorn Pack.
To humans outside their world, he was a billionaire businessman and the chairman of Vargas International Group. The company was legitimate, at least on paper. Alejandro wore expensive suits, attended business meetings, shook hands with politicians, and smiled for cameras whenever necessary.
But humans knew very little about the world that existed alongside theirs.
They didn’t know that some of the most powerful families in their cities were ruled by wolves. They didn’t know that behind certain legitimate businesses were packs moving money, weapons, and information through networks the human authorities barely understood.
And they certainly didn’t know the name La Corona Negra.
The Black Crown.
It was the criminal organization Alejandro controlled outside the formal structure of Blackthorn Pack, a network that stretched beyond their territory and into the human world.
Among wolves, and the few humans who knew enough to fear him, Alejandro had another name.
El Lobo n***o.
The Black Wolf.
Alejandro had inherited the Blackthorn throne from his father and expanded its power far beyond its borders. Smaller packs answered to him, rival Alphas feared him, and his reputation as El Lobo n***o was enough to make most enemies think twice before crossing him.
Yet Elena had never feared him.
She had heard the stories about her husband long before she became his wife. She knew how ruthless he could be toward anyone who betrayed him or threatened his territory, but with her, Alejandro was different.
He was fiercely protective, sometimes to the point of being overbearing, but he had never made her fear him. He made sure she was safe, made sure she had everything she needed, and treated their son as though Adrian were the most precious thing in the world.
If he discovered that she had tried to end his child’s life without telling him, there was no telling what he would do.
Elena lowered the pregnancy result onto her lap and stared through the windshield.
She didn’t have an answer.
She didn’t even have time to find one.
A knock sounded against her window.
She startled and turned.
Javier Cruz stood beside the driver’s door.
Her eyebrows drew together.
What was he doing here?
Javier was one of Alejandro’s Gamma-ranked guards, part of the security team assigned specifically to protect her. Elena had complained about him following her more times than she could count, but Alejandro had never cared.
My Luna doesn’t go anywhere without protection.
That had always been his rule.
Even though Elena could defend herself, and every Luna of Blackthorn was trained to fight, Alejandro insisted on having his own men nearby.
She lowered the window.
“What are you doing here, Javier? I specifically asked you to let me come to the hospital alone. I don’t need—”
“Alpha Alejandro asked me to come and get you.”
His interruption made her stop.
Something was wrong.
She could hear it in his voice.
Javier was tense. His shoulders were rigid, and his hands remained unusually close to his weapon as he glanced around the hospital parking lot.
“We have to get you to safety first,” he said.
He opened the passenger door.
Elena stared at him.
“Why?”
He didn’t answer.
That frightened her more than anything he could have said.
She grabbed her bag and climbed into the passenger seat. Javier immediately got behind the wheel and pulled away from the hospital.
For several seconds, Elena watched him in silence before another thought struck her.
“Where’s Adrian?”
Her heart began beating faster.
“He’s at the safe house. Roberto picked him up from school already.”
Relief loosened something inside her chest.
At least her son was safe.
For now.
“And Alejandro?”
Javier’s hands tightened around the steering wheel.
He didn’t answer.
Elena turned toward him.
“Javier?”
His eyes remained fixed on the road.
“He’s fine.”
The answer came too quickly.
Elena’s stomach tightened.
She knew he was lying.
Her wolf sensed it too.
“Where is he?”
“He asked me to get you.”
“That’s not what I asked.”
Silence settled between them.
Elena stared at him, waiting for an answer that never came. Javier kept his eyes on the road, his jaw tense as he drove faster.
She slowly turned toward the window again, but the uneasiness in her chest only grew.
Whatever was happening, Javier didn’t want her to know.
And that meant it had to be serious.
