The three of us walked into the study silently. We each kept our eyes trained on the ground, careful of doing anything to set Leonardo off. When we each came before his desk and awaited further instruction from him, he began to speak in his usual fierce and tense tone.
"Well, I'll get right to it." He started. "I am leaving for a few days to take care of some business. Now before you get your hopes up, no, you will not be left here alone."
I felt my heart drop inside my chest. So much for being rid of him for a few days.
Ignoring my obvious disappointment, he continued on. "Now, I'm not stupid. I know you will all try something anyway. So, while I am away, you two," He gestured lazily to Bridgit and Jemma. "Will be locked in the barn. If you're good, you might get food."
