Episode 2

Ring ring, “what the hell Damian, it’s 2 AM. Did you forget I’m almost retired. I'm getting older and need my sleep.” “Sorry, uncle Joe, but this can’t wait.” I laughed, knowing that the old man would never fully retire. He’s getting ready to step down as Alpha and hand over the pack and his spot on the council to his oldest son, Kain. He’s already talking about opening a bar just so he can break up bar fights and call it training. He doesn’t sleep for s**t. “I’ve got a situation and I need some reinforcements.” “Spill it boy, are we talking about women trouble, hiding bodies or both?” Oh how I miss my uncle’s no bullshit, straight to the point attitude. “You know I’ve been on this case in NYC for a couple months. The case is slow moving but I found this girl yesterday who was being trafficked by one of their hitmen. Here’s the kicker. I think the girl is his own daughter.” There was a pause on the other side of the line as he processed what I had just said. “Are you f*****g shiting me, let me guess we’re kidnapping her.” “She is 19, she can legally leave. We’re just gonna help her with leaving home. I have to get her out of there quickly, but I need a solid plan and a safe place for her to go. From what I can tell, this has been going on for years, and she’s in bad shape.” There was a pause on the other side of the line before my uncle replied, “Uh huh, so I'm guessing this call is for a safe place for her to go.” “Umm yah, I figured between your protection and aunt Julie’s intensive therapy it would be the best place for her. I also need some help lining up transportation to get her to you safely without being noticed. There's just one minor problem. From what I can tell, she’s human. Her father, Roy Johns, who’s also human, is extremely dangerous. I’m guessing he’s not going to let her go easily. I know he has a lot of connections, but I don’t know how strong they are.” I started getting confused and a little angry when my uncle started laughing, but it didn't take me long to see the irony of the situation we were in. “Holy hell, what kind of life are we living where bringing an abused human to a wolf pack for therapy is only a minor problem,” Uncle Joe said. “I know it’s a slight complication, but it's been done before.” I continued to fill uncle Joe in on the party and how I found her. We went over all the details on how nothing is adding up with this guy and we both agree that until I figure out everything I can about this guy, the girl will stay in our own protective custody. The Wolf counsel consists of 15 of the strongest alphas in the U.S and 25 investigators. My uncle is one of the alphas and my 2 cousins are both investigators like me. Between me, my uncle and my cousins, we should be fully capable of keeping one girl safe. The wolf counsel oversees the welfare of all the packs in the U.S. The Alphas can handle the smaller problems within their packs but any major crimes or pack wars come through us. The counsel has the final say on how a criminal should be punished, and sometimes it's a matter of deciding someone’s fate on whether they live or die. A lot of the city packs live among humans and things get complicated when your handling wolf business while also leaving the humans untouched and in the dark about who we are. I feel good about the plan uncle Joe and I came up with. He still has to run it by the boys and the council, but their good guys and I know they wouldn’t hesitate to help anyone that needs it. I wish I could get her out sooner, but we have to be smart and follow the plan or it will all backfire. We have to call in some trusted contacts and get her rides from NYC to my uncle’s in Arizona. Uncle Joe and I will be the only people that know who the drivers are. No one outside our family will exchange names or know where the final destination is. Until I hear back from my uncle, I’ve got to stay in character and figure out how I’m going to get back in to see her. Once we have the date and time set, I can update her and once she’s safe, I can light up the asshat and his lowlife friends. I finally got a couple of hours of sleep. As I was getting dressed for the gym, my cousin Gavin called me to tell me that the counsel backs us, him and Kain are in, and they're going to do the last stretch of the drive themselves. Now that I know my family is on board and working out the transportation plans, I can figure out how to get back in to see her. Siah - 1 Week later As the hours tick by, I’m getting more and more nervous. I don’t know what time it is but I can still hear my father and a couple of his friends talking downstairs. I know they haven’t left yet. It won’t be long until he sends someone up to give me the sleeping pills he always gives me when he leaves the house. It doesn’t matter. I’ve gotten good at hiding them. I’m just hoping this isn’t a trap. The fact that the man even came back is a good sign. Especially since he has a detailed plan for me to follow. All I can do is hope like hell that he’s honest, trustworthy and really does have everything planned. At this point in my life, even the possibility of one day of freedom is worth the risk of escaping. I could hear footsteps coming up the stairs. I sat up in my bed and tried to calm down my racing heart. Sure enough, one of my father's goons came in with two pills. I put them in my mouth and pretended to swallow them. He did his job and watched me to make sure I took them. He smirked and said, “have a good night” as he switched the light off and left. Like I don’t know what these pills are supposed to do. I spit the pills back out and hid them in my floorboard. Now I just have to wait. Once they left, the man said someone would put a ladder up to my window and once it’s there I'd have 5 mins to get down it and off the property. There’s supposed to be a black car waiting for me 3 blocks down the street. From there I have no idea where they're taking me, but I’m praying it’s to safety and not a worse life than the one I’m living. I laid silently in my bed and finally heard my father and his friends leave. I stayed silent and made sure I heard the locks on the front door click. I listened and made sure I heard them walk away from the house before I got up and got dressed. I’m so scared I can feel my heart beating like crazy and I’m sweating so badly I hope my hands don’t slip off the ladder. Where is the ladder guy anyway? I haven’t heard it yet. I'm starting to feel like I'm being foolish. I know better than to get my hopes up for anything. Why would anyone help me get out of here? I'm a worthless monster, and the only thing people care about or even like about me, is my body. I finally heard a banging sound on the side of the house. I started to shake, oh my gosh, he came. Dont panic. It’s now or never. I pop open the window and, sure enough, there’s a ladder secured to the side of the house. My heart is racing as I climb down but I made it. I FREAKING MADE IT OUTSIDE! I took off running with my bag over my shoulder and finally saw a black car waiting. I hesitated for a second when the back door swung open. What if this is a trap and they're not taking me to safety? I can hear people walking behind me, but there’s no way I’m looking back. Screw it, I run to the car and hop in. Panting like crazy and trying to catch my breath. The woman in the passenger seat yelled “DRIVE” to the driver. Then she turned around and smiled at me, "You did amazing, your safe I promise." My head was spinning so fast and I couldn’t catch my breath. I couldn’t speak. I just laid my head back and closed my eyes for a minute.
