The forest is silent. It was normal for it to be silent when it was swallowed almost entirely by snow, but this silence was different. It was the silence that let everything know there was a big predator around and that everyone should remain hidden.
I didn’t like it. Maybe I was simply paranoid, but better safe than sorry. As Persephone walks back into the house, I reach to my hip, subtly feeling the gun against my hip. It gave me a safety feeling: to know it was still there, just in reach, for the worst case scenario.
