Chapter Fourteen

1081 Words
Chloe’s beauty captured Logan when she stepped into the restaurant. She had arrived a little late, but the wait was worth it. Her shimmering champagne gold gown, with a slit at the side, did her no justice. Chloe’s hair was gelled backward, and her accessories were all silver. For a moment, Logan had thought she was the girl he saw at the party. He stood up to offer her a seat, “Thank you,” she whispered to his ear again, and goose bumps sent down his spine. It was a round table with six guests, and Logan waited for the guests to arrive. The guests were the owners of a Romania Ceramics Company, and Logan intended to use their dinner wares for his hotel. The elderly man facing Logan was the CEO of the company. Beside him was his son, the company’s vice-president, and their lawyer. The guest was arranged, but they left only one seat empty. Logan signaled Geoffrey with his hands. “Where is the translator?” Logan whispered. “He fell sick.” “And you didn’t tell me this since,” Logan was slightly irritated. “We are currently looking for anyone who speaks Romanian at the moment.” The CEO of the ceramic company smiled And said “Sa mancam” shall we eat. Chloe looked at Logan. he was tapping his feet vigorously. She smiled and placed her hand on his lap, reassuring him. “Inainte de atunci, putem face o introducere oficicala?” before then, can we make a formal introduction? Chloe said. Logan stopped talking to Geoffrey and just grazed at Chloe. Who was this woman? He asked himself. The elderly man said something else. “What did he say?” Logan leaned in and asked. “He said that the man to the right is his son, and the man to his left is a lawyer.” Throughout the meal, Chloe acted as a translator. Logan knew he had no choice when he brought her on this business trip, as Amy was preparing for her wedding. But yet she had surprised him in many ways, successfully closing a business deal, saving that boy. As a result, he saw less and less reason to hate her. They all stood up and offered a handshake to each other. “Multumesc pentru aceasta oferta,” thank you for this offer. “Multumesc,” Chloe replied. “Vois amandoi faceti un cuplu minunat,” you both make a lovely couple. The old man says before leaving only the two of them alone “What did he say?” Logan whispered, and Chloe swallowed. “Thank you for the offer,” she said, omitting the last part. “You can speak Romanian, yet you can’t swim. You never seem to amaze me, Miss Martini” “ Chloe stayed quiet. He removed two glass cases from his pocket and placed them on the table. “I couldn’t tell if you were short-sighted or long-sighted.” “Thank you” She takes the black case “Short-sighted” and place the glasses on her. At that time, Logan had wondered if the white case was short-sighted glasses rather than the black cases. He was focused so hard on the case Chloe was holding. “I love this song!” he pulled out of his thought when Chloe beamed. Logan didn’t know what made him offer a hand to her; maybe it was the first time he had seen an expression on her face. “it’s such a beautiful song to be wasted without dancing,” Chloe always heard her mother sing this song, in the bathroom, in the living room, anywhere, always the slow melody. Por voce by Ao Vivo. For you. I would dance tango on the roof I would clean rails of the subway I would walk from Rio To Salvador For you, for you I could even feel happy I would paint the whole sky in red color A teardrop falls on Chloe’s face. She remembered her mother. A person whose fate was never lucky, Francesca had met Derek on a ship cruise. An American man in an unfamiliar land, he used his charms and wit to seduce her back to his home. Francesca followed him even when her family disowned her because she believed that love would conquer all. The life he promised her was not the life she got. #10. Do not reveal yourself or leave yourself vulnerable: you are here to take money, not come for a therapy session. The deeper you connect with someone, the harder it is to take something from that person. Logan cleaned the tears from her eyes, and she inspected him. He was a graceful dancer. The song changed, and he pulled her closer. A salsa dance. Others joined in, but on the dance floor, it felt like it was only him and her. His hands caressed her back, and he never broke eye contact with her. Logan flipped her, and she gasped. Chloe swayed her hips and moved to the rhythm of the beat. He spun her around and gripped her hips at the end of the sound. Chloe was panting by the end of the dance. “You are an excellent dancer, Miss Martini.” And she giggled. Logan smiled. It was the first time he had seen her laugh. “I simply followed your lead.” His hand never left her waist as he led her to the hotel’s garden. “So tell me, how do you know Romanian or even women who lead business today?” “A traded secret.” “Ah,” Logan smiled. “It will be 3 weeks and 4 days since I have been in your company.” Chloe gave a mischievous smile And she continued talking “And you said I will never make it.” “Don’t count your eggs before they hatch. You still have 3 more days.” He returned her smile. “Does that mean you will no longer be a tyrant?” Logan came to face with her; he caressed her hair and left lingering touches on her neck. He loved the way she responded to him. Logan slowly retraced his hands from her body and tucked them into his pocket. Logan swore to himself that he would never mix business with pleasure. “We’ll see,” he replied “Good night, Miss. Martini,” Logan told Chloe afore leaving the garden.
