"Hand her over Eli, before this escalates any further than it needs to." I kept my outward appearance calm and stoic, though I was raging within. "That will not happen." I told him cooly. "As you wish" The other pack alpha Mason sneered. I saw as his muscles coil, as he crouched low to the ground to lunge and his pack follow suit, and I was ready for him. What I was not ready for however is what happened next.
Faster than any eye human or supernatural could keep up with, Fallon was in front of me. She stood tall, her shoulders squared, strength, power and dominance radiated off the normally timid and shy girl. What was most frightening was she had her arm plunged through Mason's chest. "Wh..who are y..you?" Mason gasped out. Fallon growled, the sound menacing. "Who I am doesn't matter." She sneered in a voice that was far more powerful than her usual quiet one.. "What matters is you and your lackies have decided to attack someone I happen to lo..care about."
What was she about to say before she corrected herself? I didn't have time to ask before one of Mason's pack members stormed forward his face hard and angry. "How dare yo.." Her free hand shot out, grabbed the man around the throat and with a flick of her wrist, she snapped his neck, dropping his motionless body to the ground. "Anyone else?" She growled turning to face the rest of Mason's pack. They all shook their head, backing away into the far wall. "Good." she said turning back to the man before her. "It would be so easy." she whispered in a voice so low I almost didn't hear her. Her arm flexed and Mason gasped, what did she do? "What exactly did you intend to do attacking the way you did?" Mason opened his mouth to answer, but only a gurgle came from him.
I stepped forward, almost hesitant. "Fallon. I need you to calm down now and let him go. I am not hurt, we are not hurt."I tried to sound as gentle as I could while addressing her, not wanting to startle her while she is already in this state. A small gasp came from her and she dropped Mason to the floor, turned to look at the man she killed then to me. Her eyes were so full of pain, sorrow and regret my chest ached. "I didn't mean...I couldn't.....I never" She looked down to her arm that was covered in blood, and back to me again. "I'm sorry." She whispered in a broken voice before she was gone. It was like she just disappeared.
"What the hell is she?" One of Mason's pack asked as he stepped forward to pick his alpha off the floor. I kept my eyes on them, "As she said, she is none of your concern. I think it is time for you to leave." The man growled at me, causing Xavier to step forward arms crossed. "Fallon already took one of you down and spared your alpha. Unless the res of you want the same fate I suggest you go." He said flatly.
The men grumbled as they hauled Mason out the door and left like the hounds of hell were on their tail. "Ok, does anyone else know what the hell that was?" Xavier yelled. "I knew she was hiding something. I knew she would cause trouble." Alaric said. "I don't think she intended for that to happen. She looked just as surprised about it as we did." I pointed out. "But why did it happen now?" Lucas asked crossing his arms. "Because we were in danger." I told them. "I still don't understand why though." Lucas said running a hand through his hair. "I don't know. Why don't we go find her and find out." I suggested.
I don't know how long we were searching through the forest before we heard her. Quiet sobs filtered through a pile of bushes in front us, leading us directly to Fallon. She backed away from us with her arms out in front of her. "Don't." She said firmly. "Just don't. I won't hurt any of you too, I can't. Please, just go." She pleaded with us. I stepped forward after searching the others eyes. "Fallon, what happened?" I asked. She dropped her hands and hugged herself with them. "I don't know." She said in a low voice. "I saw you, all of you in danger and my beast she took over." She shook her head closing her eyes. "I didn't want, never wanted it to happen again. But I couldn't stop her. I asked her why she did it after I left, and she babbled something about hurting mates but I don't know what that means. I never wanted you to find out like this."
My eyes widened in shock. "Are you sure she said mates?" I asked carefully. How could she know about mates? Well obviously she didn't but something within her did, and she didn't say mate, she said mates. She furrowed my brow in confusion but nodded. "Do you know what you are?" I asked her. She shook her head, the confusion never leaving her face. "Not a wolf like my father, that much I know. Whatever I am scared them enough that when I first changed at six they tried to kill me. My beast's instincts took over and she protected me, killing them both. It wasn't but a few hours after that the.. I was taken." Her father was a wolf. Of course I should have known that after what she told me. I was too concerned about my slip up then about worrying about what she said.
"Can you show us?" I urged. "No." She barked stepping away. "I don't know if I can control her. I don't want to hurt any of you." Alaric sighed. "You won't hurt us." He said. "If what you said about you beast said about mates is true, she won't hurt us. She protected us today." He finished. "Protected Eli you mean." Xavier huffed. "I..I don't understand." She murmured. "Just know we will not be hurt." I assured her.
"I don't know how. I never changed on purpose before. I haven't changed at all since I was six." She said, fear lacing her tone. Lucas stepped up beside me. "Do you know what your other form looks like?" He asked her. She nodded hesitantly. "Picture that form in your mind, then imagine that form taking shape over your human one."
She didn't answer right away, but closed her eyes. Her brow furrowed her she squeezed her eyes tight as she concentrated on whatever she was picturing inside her head. Before long she began to..shimmer? Yes, she shimmered. Like magic was being poured over her as her other form took over. It was nothing like the painful turn a wolf had to go through, so I knew we could count wolf out. But as soon as her change was over we were all stunned. She towered over all of us now, her black lycan form, wonderful and magnificent. "Please don't be scared of me." She pleaded with me, her voice projected inside my head. "I would never hurt any of you." As if to prove this, she sat down in front of us. "How did you just speak in our mind?" Alaric asked. Her large lycan head c****d sideways. "I didn't know I did. I thought I was just talking." She replied.
I was the first to approach her urged on by my wolf who was whispering to me about his mate and how she was powerful. I made sure to show no fear or hesitance as I approached her. "You are a lycan Fallon." I told her as I circled her. "Do you know this makes you royalty?" I asked. "I don't want to be royalty." She argued. "I just want to be normal. Live normal. I want to be able to get over what happened to me. I want a family, love, children some day. I don't want to be a queen or princess or whatever this form makes me."
"A wolf's human side can choose their mate or mates Fallon, but if your wolf or beast as you call her does not agree with your choice, the relationship won't work. The wolf will not mate with someone he or she finds unworthy." I told her honestly. "What is a mate? My bea..lycan said mates, plural. But I don't understand." I rubbed the back of my neck nervously before turning to the others. Each of them took a step back, giving me lead on this conversation. "A mate is a person your wolf's soul bonds to. The other soul has to agree to the bond before they can truly be considered mates. But for a wolf or lycan a mate is like a soul mate in human terms." I informed her.
Her human form took shape quickly after that, leaving her sitting in front of me fully clothed. "You're not frightened of me?" She asked me. I just chuckled, while Xavier and Lucas snorted. Alaric gave no response. I grabbed her and hauled her to her feet. "We are not frightened of you Fallon. Quite the opposite actually. But we need to keep you hidden, if anyone found out a lycan existed you'd have a bounty on your head. We will protect you." I told her with a small smile. "Didn't look like she needed much protection to me." Alaric said dryly. But his usual snark and ice wasn't there. "That was not Fallon, that was her lycan protecting one of her mates." I told him never taking my eyes from hers. "You?" she whispered, her eyes widening in shock. "You? Accepted me? You're a wolf?" Her confusion would be cute under normal circumstances, but I know where hers come from.
My smiled wavered as I remembered something. "About that." I started "Your friend, the gold wolf you showed me your painting of. That was me. That is my wolf form." She laughed. "I knew there was more to the wolf. I should have put two and two together." She started tracing her fingers down my jaw line. "It was all in the eyes." I shuddered under her touch. Reaching up I grabbed her hand with mine and closed it around her smaller one. "You are not angry?" I asked. "No, I am just happy to know you didn't avoid me all that time." She smiled.
"Wait. Eli, your wolf was around her? and didn't harm her? I remember that one time, I just assumed you managed to remain in control, but more than once?" Xavier gaped. Fallon looked over to the other three and smiled. "Yes." she said, before I could answer. "His wolf has been my companion by the docks almost daily the past few weeks." All three men shook their head in disbelief. "What am I missing?" She asked asked confused. I sighed, dread washed over me at what I had to tell her. "I am considered a feral. A wolf who has trouble containing his wolf's basic instincts, who can't constantly keep the wolf from taking over. It makes me stronger, more powerful than most other wolves, but also more dangerous." What would she think about me now? Would she think I was dangerous? Run?
But she surprised be by simply shrugging. "I happen to like you the way you are. Though I think you have too much stress on you. And if were being honest I can't always control my bea...lycan." she corrected. This woman was something else. "You are unique parvulus. Truly remarkable." I pulled her to me, wrapping my arms around her shoulders and holding her tightly to me. Her arms went around my mid-section as she grasped onto me with just as much hopefulness and vigor. My wolf had accepted a mate, something I never thought would happen. And more than that, I accepted her. Fallon was a unique woman, her past was filled with pain, heartache and scars and yet she still has found a way to remain caring and selfless. I may never be worthy of her, but I will spend whatever time I had left with her trying.
