Introduction - The Virus Is Here
It was no secret that the world was going through an extraordinary change, with global warming at an all-high, scientists attempting to play god, and mass shooting numbers soaring through the roof, it was no surprise when a new virus emerged from a lab in Iceland. Covering the news about a month before the virus could even inhabit humans, it was well known that scientist Avery Hitman and leading geno-scientist Sarha Vaughn had discovered a new strain of the common flue in a glacier. What they didn't know was that this strain would change the world as we knew it, killing millions, and leaving behind new traces of life and death in its tracks. As these scientists brought this common flue back to the main land, Avery Hitman became sick the second they descended onto the land. Not a soul knew if it was because he was infected when they came in contact and hydrating him caused it. The temperature changed once they hit land, or even if he had eaten something that activated this virus; but the truth was he was sick and no one was expecting what followed.
Within the first day on the mainland, Avery had a fever hitting 128. It was a shock at that point that he was even alive. His skin would burn to the touch. It didn't take long for things to get worse and he admitted himself for scientific research for Sarha Vaughn. Within three days, Avery was sitting in an isolated room under the supervision of Sarha. He would throw up blood and complain that he was hearing things, voices that were telling him he was hungry. However, Avery wouldn't eat no matter what Sarha put in front of him. When day five came, Sarha watched Avery die of starvation and severe temperatures. It was as if he gave himself a heat stroke and went into cardiac arrest and, with his symptoms, was surrounded by doctors in suits unable to do anything. Every single doctor left that lab that day infected and all died days later, some immediately. Sarha Vaughn also fell ill and in her last hours made a recording warning the world of what she had done. Her final words crossed the web in fear, "This is not the flu, it's death. Some things that have been hidden for thousands of years... are hidden for a reason. Run and don't stop running. If you don't get sick, what's left of the sick will get you." And the video ends. Sarha Vaughn was never seen again and the dead came back to life to haunt the living.
Evolution had taken humanity by storm and there were effects that innocent bystanders ended up living with. This story is about how it affected one family in particular before it adventures off into others, The Westbrooks. The idea of surviving an apocalypse is terrifying, but what do you do when you face it as a family? Will it tare them apart or bring them closer?
With love and passion in the mix, the evolution of zombies and something yet to come on the way; how will they defend themselves and survive together? As the writer, that is up to me to decide and for you to find out. Welcome to The Eruption of Time.
