The next evening, I sat in the car and waited in the parking lot while Carol Lynne visited Gladys. I texted Dad in the meantime. Let's just say it went as well as expected. Sarcasm fully intended.
Ray Stevenson: What the hell is going on over there? One minute you're helping Carol Lynne. Next, you're telling me that her mother is being blackmailed.
Charlie Stevenson: I said, "seems," Dad. "Seems." I don't have all the facts, but it's the only thing that makes sense. The founder is holding something over Gladys's head. She's afraid to leave.
Ray Stevenson: Charlie, this isn't good.
Charlie Stevenson: I won't abandon Carol Lynne.
Ray Stevenson: That wasn't what I was suggesting. Try to convince Carol Lynne not to disrupt the situation until you have more info.
