Chapter1
Elara’s Point of View “Everyone did great today. You can all go home early,” My boss, Peter said. Everyone got up to leave the room. “Oh, Elara, Please wait a minute. I need to talk to you in my office,” Peter said “Um, okay,” I replied. I grabbed my purse and followed him to his office. Peter gestured for me to walk into the room first and I did. I heard him close the door after. “Have a seat Elara,” Peter said and I sat down. He walked over to his desk and sat as well. “You have been doing a wonderful job Elara. I am very impressed,” Peter said “Thank you, Peter. I am happy you feel that way,” I replied “I know you are almost finished with college and that you have a lot on your plate. I would like to offer you a better position with better pay,” Peter said “Really?” I said excitedly. “Really. I meant what I said Elara. You have been doing a great job,” Peter said “Thank you so much, Peter. I don’t know what to say but thank you,” I replied “I know something you can do for me,” Peter said as he go up out of his seat. “What?” I asked “I will take care of you so it is only fair for you to take care of me,” Peter said as he started to remove his suit jacket. I quickly stood from my seat. “I am sorry, Peter but I can’t do that. I am not that kind of girl,” I said “Oh, come on, Elara. I know your situation. You don’t have a dad, your mom abandoned you and your sister. You need this job so that you can keep custody of your sister,” Peter said as he walked closer to me and tried to grab me. I kicked him in the balls causing him to scream from pain. After that I ran out of his office. “YOU ARE FIRED ELARA. YOU BETTER NOT STEP FOOT INTO THIS OFFICE AGAIN,” I heard Peter scream as I left. “I can’t believe he would do that. I knew he had a thing for you but what the f**k? Peter is such a jackass. I am going to kick his ass.” “No, Nancy. Don’t,” I replied. “What? We can’t let him get away with what he did to you. He basically harassed you at work and then fired you when you turned him down. We can’t let him get away with that.” Nancy was my best friend. We had known each other since Kindergarten. “No one would believe us. Peter is the CEO of Lance Group, and I am a nobody. No one would believe me over him. Besides, I have more important things to worry about. I need to find a new job,” I said My name is Elara Gray, and I am twenty one years old. I am a senior in college and about to receive a degree in Business Management. I never met my dad, and my mom abandoned my sister and me as soon as I turned eighteen. I have been taking care of her ever since. When I was eighteen, I had to prove to the State that I had the ability to take care of my sister Clara. Luckily, my grandfather left me his house and a little money. The money helped in the beginning with our living expenses, but soon I had to find a job. Luckily, I was able to find one at the Lance Group. I was Peter’s assistant. I thought Peter was my friend, and I told him about my situation. He never made me think that he was a scumbag. Not until now. Nancy had warned me numerous times. They had met a few times at the business parties that she had gone to with me. I thought she was just being overprotective, but I was wrong. “Well, I might have a solution to your job problem,” Nancy said “Really?” I asked “Yes, our company is hiring. My boss Chloe needs an assistant. I can put in a good word for you. I will warn you that she can be a b***h. A big b***h at that, but…” “I don’t care. I can handle it. I really need a job,” I said “Okay, then. I will tell her about you.” TWO DAYS LATER "Hello, I am here for an interview with Ms. Day," I said "You need to take the elevators to the third floor." "Thank you," I replied to the receptionist and headed to the elevator. I was so happy when Nancy told me that Ms. Day wanted me to come for an interview today. Now that I was there, I was nervous. Nancy warned me that Ms. Day wasn't the nicest person and would talk to her employees in any type of way. I wasn't the type of person to take anyone's s**t. I needed this job, so I knew I would need to put up with her. Hopefully, there wouldn't be any problems between the two of us. Once I arrived on the third floor, I walked up to the receptionist. "Hello, I am here for the eleven o'clock interview with Ms. Day. My name is Elara Gray," I said "Please have a seat. Someone will be here to get you in a moment," the lady said "Thank you," I replied, and I took a seat. "Elara Gray," A woman called. I had been waiting for about half an hour. I got up and followed her to the back silently. There was a man and a woman sitting at a rectangular table. They both had blond hair and blue eyes. When I walked into the room the man stood up. He was very tall and muscular, and very attractive
