Chapter 4 - Blue hair not so blue me

1304 Words
Alex rolls over on the soft bed, using his pillow to shield the blinding light of the sun that shone through the window. It was the same as yesterday, the same soft chirping of the nightingales. The same fluffy clouds and the same annoying voice telling him to wake up. "For the love of Merlin! Can't you see that it's nearly noon!" Alex sprang out of the bed at the horrible news. He glanced at the clock that showed 11:56 pm and dashed for the bathroom. "Did it work?" "Why did you think I woke you up! Younger you is rocking the hairstyle in fact he was happy that it turned out blue!" "That does sound like me." His chuckles irritated Sophie so much that she hurridly slapped him upside the head. "Do you think this is a joke! If Younger you balds Axteene again then we're down to five days!" Alex made his way outside the bathroom saddened by the news. He sat on the bed brainstorming what to do until he'd got it. "I know what we should do! Let's go to the school quickly, Elfie didn't say anything about you not being able to talk to younger me right?" "He didn't but I don't think that I should intervene, I'm not from this timeline it could rupture this one and cause more trouble." Alex dragged Sophie out of the house ignoring her warning, setting off to talk some sense into his younger self. "Come on, nothing bad will happen you're too paranoid for your own good." Arriving at the school, the two watched as the mischievous smile of younger Alex as he dashed around the corner. It was almost 12:30, so they didn't have much time left. "Go talk to him until 12:30 that way, he can't possibly place the remover into Axteene's shampoo and we can move on from here." Sophie glared at him, not too fond of his idea but wanting to leave the trapped timeline desperately. She ventured around the corner, trying to find Alex amongst the little children who were sharing their previous day with each other. The noise was deafening, but she finally saw the youngster. "Alex! Alex!" The little boy looked at her in annoyance, as if he had bigger plans on his agenda which indeed he did. "Who are you?" It was 12:28 only two minutes to go before his plan failed. Sophie breathed before revealing to him what she wanted him to know. "I'm your mother's friend she wanted me to give you this," Pulling from her jacket a brown lunch bag the boy looked at her in confusion Suddenly, the hall bell rang indicating that it was 12:30 and younger Alex's plan has failed....or so they thought. Alex's face lit up like a thousand stars at night. Out came running Axteene with a bald head who shoved past the two and outside the school, hollering. Her eyes were wet with tears as she stormed out. "Bald Axteene!" Someone shouted from the crowd. As soon as Sophie realized she turned to look back at the youngster only to return to emptiness. "No! No! No! No!" "Love the blue hair Alex!" Were the compliments that flooded the boy but as much as Sophie looked for him the farther the boy got away from her. In defeat, she slowly strolled over to older Alex with her head hung low. Alex too had a face thick with defeat. He rubbed Sophie's back, heeding the advice that Elfie gave him. "What happened?" "He had already placed the hair remover in her shampoo," Alex's face lit up with realization. "I knew that something was off about this time! I had replaced the shampoo overnight! I had dinner with Axteene's family and I switched her shampoo for hair remover" Sophie was livid. Her face held the expression of a taunted bull, ready to rip Alex to shreds. "And you failed to tell me this until now!" "I'm bad at remembering things ok! Now come on I know exactly what to do." The two rushed to the house, running for a good kilometer before they finally entered the two-story building. Alex quickly made his way to the kitchen cupboards, eagerly searching them. "What are you doing?" His eyes narrowed at the question, concentrating hard on the task and not willing to break focus. "Well?" He finally looked up at the wizard before rolling his eyes, as an indicator for her to have patience. He continued his scrambling before he pulled out sharp blue handle scissors. Its blade glistened in the faint light of the sun, it shone with purpose knowing exactly what it was there for. Alex's lips stretched to opposite sides of his face, beaming at his discovery. "When I was...well you know, I had to use scissors to pick her bathroom lock when I went over there, If younger me can't find the scissors, then no bald Axteene." "I have to give it to you...you're not as thick as your face shows." Sophie's face had a beaming smile of her own. She looked pleased with Alex's thinking. Happy and relieved that he had finally placed his head in the game and is avoiding unnecessary confrontation. "Why doesn't that feel like a compliment?" "Take it as what you wish, let's hide it in the room we're resting in," Alex shook his head, disagreeing with Sophie's hiding place. "I'm too smart not to look in there." Her laughter filled the rooms, suffocating the silence. "Pffft, considering you didn't even know your left from your right you should probably stop insulting yourself with such words." Alex glared at her but laughed at the harmless joke. He looked around the room seeking out a hiding place but wherever they picked was either too easy to get to or too obvious. After bickering back and forth the Alex finally settled on hiding the scissors in the air vent in the living room. "He's way too short to reach it even with help, and he'd never suspect it." "That's perfect!" The two made their way over to the little vent opening it and shoving the scissors inside. Suddenly loud keys jingled outside the door, the two looked at each other quickly closing the vent and placing everything back in place. "Mom guess what I did today!?" "Crap! Let's go!" They could hear the conversation between the youngster and his mom about the prank he pulled. "That was close," Huffing, the two fell on the bed, tired from their little fiasco. "No s**t Sherlock, we need to be more careful, if that kid sees us then it's game over!" "I know, I know...we still have one last thing left to do." Sophie's eyebrows raised carefully waiting for an explanation. "We should give Axteene an anonymous note, you know just in case this doesn't work we should warn her about her hair falling off." Sophie glared at him, impressed that he had such a great idea but bitter that he was the one to come up with it. He wanted him to stay the thick-headed fool that she had met. "How will we send her this 'Anonymous' note?" Alex began to search the old room until he finally found a notebook, he tore out a page and began his search again for a pencil. Finally, his hands made haste to scribble something on the page until he showed it to Sophie, "Don't wash your hair tomorrow," She looked at him, satisfied with his plan, and began to bring him outside. "We should slip this into her room, lets go!" The two ventured into the cold of the night to the unfortunate young girl's house. Planning on how to sneak inside without being seen and praying that their plan will work out. ___________________________________________ Thanks for reading! ?
