Chapter 51

323 Words

Camile Another day, another dead person. Oliver bursts into the room and I stare, stunned. He tells me what happened at the cabin. I almost don’t believe him. As I stand there with my mouth open, I try to process what he is telling me. “I didn’t even know Aunt Ellen was in town,” I say. “You don’t have to worry,” Oliver whispers, his voice strangely hollow. “She will no longer be a problem.” “Is the place a big mess?” “Not too bad,” he says. “It was asphyxiation.” Relief washes over me and I exhale. “Thank God.” Oliver gazes out the window, and I realize he’s in shock. “I mean, thank God she didn’t suffer.” “Taylor’s back,” he says, his voice devoid of emotion. "Well, that"s something at least." “It’ll be a fresh start,” he says. I nod my head in agreement. “Yes, it will be.”
