Chapter 17

1242 Words

Anna’s pov I kept low and close to the back of the packhouse, as stealthy as I could manage. I knew where they would post guards; I knew how easy enough they were to avoid. It wasn’t as if it was my first time. I often wondered if any of my kind ever considered breaking in, but nobody would have thought twice about a person like me. A person who had once called this place home. Who had once been the Alpha’s mate. I saw a maid loitering by one of the back entrances—a young, terrified-looking thing holding a folded laundry basket in a death grip. With a smile I knew I had this in the bag as I approached her. “Yo,” I called out, coming into sight. She saw me and shuddered as I placed a finger to my lips. “Be quiet and don’t alert anyone.” “M-Miss Anna?” Her eyes were wide with fear.
