Selene's POV
Feeling heartbroken and in pain, I left the house with absolutely nothing. I felt empty and alone as I stood outside in the cold night.
Tears streamed down my cheeks, but I didn't care. I had just lost everything that mattered to me. My marriage, the man I loved and my happiness.
"What am I going to do now?" I whispered to myself, my voice cracking. I started walking down the street, aimlessly. I didn't know where I was headed, and I didn't care.
As I walked, I focused on putting one foot in front of the other. Shadows danced around me, and I shivered. "I need to be strong," I murmured to myself. "I can do this." But as I turned a corner, a group of men stepped into my path, leaning against a wall. Their faces twisted into leers, and my heart skipped a beat in fear.
"Hey there, pretty girl," one of them called out, taking a step forward. "Where are you going all alone?" I felt panic rise in my chest.
"Just leave me alone," I said, trying to push past them. But they didn't move. "Come on, don't be like that," another one said, grabbing my arm.
"Let go of me!" I shouted, trying to pull away. The men laughed, but fear ran icy through my veins. "You're not going anywhere, sweetheart," one of them sneered, stepping closer.
I felt trapped, my heart pounding. "Please, just stop!" I pleaded.
Just as things seemed desperate, I heard a voice cut through the tension. "Get your hands off her!"
I looked up to see Alpha Dante striding toward us, anger radiating off him. What was he doing here?! His eyes were fixed on the men, full of rage.
"Who do you think you are?" the leader of the group sneered, trying to appear tough.
"I'm the one giving you one last chance to walk away," Dante replied, his voice low and steady.
The men hesitated, glancing at each other uncertainty. Then, in an instant, they lunged at Dante.
"Move!" he shouted, and I watched in awe as he defended himself with ease. He took the lead, and I felt a rush of relief wash over me.
In moments, Dante had the situation under control.
The men stumbled back, realizing they were no match for him. "You better think twice before you mess with someone again," he warned, eyes blazing.
As they scrambled away, I felt a wave of relief wash over me, but suddenly, the adrenaline hit me. I staggered back, my vision blurring.
"Selene!" Dante's voice drifted away as darkness began to close in around me. Before I knew it, I fainted.
When I slowly woke up, I was disoriented. I blinked a few times and took in my surroundings. The room was dimly lit, and I noticed I was lying in a big bed, covered with soft blankets. I looked down and realized I was wearing different clothes-comfortable loungewear instead of my own. I wasn't cold.
"What happened?" I mumbled, trying to sit up. My head throbbed slightly, and I pressed my palm to my forehead.
"Hey, take it easy," a familiar voice said. I turned my head to see Dante sitting in a chair by the bed, his expression concerned.
"What... where am I?" I asked, feeling confusion swirl in my brain.
"You're in my home," Dante replied, getting up and moving closer to the bed. "You fainted after I got you from those men."
"I fainted?" I whispered, feeling embarrassed. "I can't believe that happened."
"Don't worry about it," he said quickly. "You were scared. That's normal. It's okay to be shaken up."
I sat up a little more, still trying to grasp the situation. "How did I end up here?"
"After I chased those guys off, I thought it would be safer to bring you here. I didn't want to leave you alone," he explained.
I looked around the room. "Thank you for saving me. I didn't expect to see you. I thought... I thought you were busy with your Alpha duties."
“Now answer me. Why the f**k were you roaming around the street so late Selene?!”
“I–” I felt the words hang in my throat and they couldn't come out. Tears threatened to rush to my eyes but I blinked them away. Dante must have noticed because his stoic expression softened a bit.
“How, how did you even find me!”I asked
"I'm always busy, but when it comes to you, I'll make time, I had someone trace you" he said, his expression serious.
"This baby you're carrying means a lot to me, Selene." Of course, his baby. Stupid me forgot someone could actually be nice to me for the sake of it.
Dante's expression returned to the way it was. That glimpse of care or pity had completely disappeared.
Just then, I heard a phone buzz on the bedside table. I looked over and saw it was mine. I reached for it and was shocked that I had missed several calls, one from my friends. One from Chloe and another from Emily.
"They must be worried sick!"
"Let them know you're okay," and to quit bothering you. I quickly dialed Chloe's number.
"Hey! I'm... I'm okay! Just a bit shaken," I said as soon as she answered.
"Oh, thank goodness! We were so worried!" Chloe exclaimed, relief evident in her voice. "You never got back from the ultrasound! Did everything go well?!”
"There was a little mishap but I'm fine now," I reassured her. "I just need a moment to breathe."
"Mishap?! What the f**k do you mean? Do you want us to come see you?” Emily and myself? Chloe asked.
"Um, maybe later?" I replied, glancing at Dante. "I think I just need to catch my breath first."
"Alright, but we're coming over to check on you soon! Promise!" she said before hanging up.
I put down the phone and looked up at Dante. "Thank you for everything. I don't know what I would have done without you."
“No need to thank me. So long you're ok.”
That was definitely meant for his baby but I had to count my blessings.
“I'll definitely be. I have your baby in me after all. So now, could you please explain to me what you meant in the hospital about him not being a normal wolf?”
