Chapter 8

Selene pov I walked closer to the closet where the clothes were stored and I can't believe I own everything in the wardrobe. “Why are they treating me special?” I asked myself while checking the clothes one by one and I realized they are all expensive clothes. “He's really wealthy.” I muttered with my hands folded around my chest. I still felt like they might want something from me because why are they so interested in me, and why is he even trying to please me? Instead of asking silly questions I decided to pick one of the clothes and get a shower so that I can finally step out of the room. I was about to walk into the toilet when I heard a knock on the door. “Who is it this time?” I asked reluctantly and opened the door. “Ma'am, I'm sorry to bother you, Alpha Dante has ordered me to be assigned to your room. I have been working as a maid here since I was five so I am the best person to show you around the pack house.” I got confused for a moment because I don't understand why she's explaining herself to me. “I don't understand what you're talking about, assigned to me? Why?” “I'm your personal maid ma'am.” I couldn't believe my ears because what do I even need a personal maid for? First it was a fashion servant and now a personal maid? He's doing too much already. I looked at the young girl standing in front of me and she looked really pitiful. I am sure if I reject her they would let her go, she's too young to be a maid. “Tell Alpha Dante to let you go, I'm fine, I don't need a personal maid.” The girl went on her knees immediately. The smile on my face slowly faded because I just saved her life so why is she begging? “Is there something you don't like about me? If my hair is too long I'll cut it, if I talk too much I promise I'll cut my tongue.” I was shocked to hear that line. “I would do anything you want, please don't reject me.” The young girl begged. I got really confused because here I was thinking I saved her life by rejecting her only for her to start pleading for me to accept her. “I think you do not understand what I said. I don't need a maid. I'm finding everything on my own. Just tell Alpha Dante that I don't need any help and he will let you go.” “Go? No maid leaves the pack house alive.” I placed my hand on my chest the moment I heard what she said. What sort of wickedness is that? “What do you mean?” “You are still new here so you don't know anything about the pack and how to survive. Please take me in, I'll tell you everything.” I was puzzled for a moment. I still can't get over what she just said about the maids that tried to leave the pack house. “Fine, I accept you.” She looked relieved when she heard what I said and immediately walked away. “What have I gotten myself into? How did I even get here?” ********** It's been more than three hours now and my new maid has refused to leave the room. When I stand up she stands too and when I sit she sits, is this how their work is done? Or was she sent to watch me? “What's your name?” “Ciara.” “Nice name.” I said to her with a faint smile on my face, I had to think of something we could both talk about instead of watching each other. “Thank you.” There was silence again in the room. I thought of stepping out earlier but I don't think I need to do that again because I might see more weird people out there. “Can you tell me about your kind?” I didn't know how to ask the question in a clearer way, I hoped she'll understand the way I asked her. “Are you really human?” Ciara asked. I was confused when she asked the question because isn't it obvious? “Yes, why do you ask?” “That's strange.” “Why?” She looked at me and suddenly stood up from where she was sitting. “I'm not in the right place to answer that, it's better you ask Alpha Dante.” “Oh, didn't you promise you'll tell me everything I need to know? So why do I have to go meet Dante to tell me about this strange thing you're talking about?” I was a little upset because I am dying of curiosity, there's a lot I need to know and she's the only one I can confide in right now. I patiently waited for her to come to a conclusion so that she could tell me why it's strange. “The strange thing is that you're human and carrying an Alpha’s child, that's rare.” She just made me even more curious, I placed my hand on my belly softly while in deep thought. “Why don't you follow me out of the room so that I can show you around the pack house.” I looked at her face, it's a little scary but I might want to explore it, maybe it'll take my mind off the strange things I've been imagining. “Doesn’t sound like a bad idea.” ********* We both stepped out of the room and finally I could see the sky clearly. “Oh my goodness, the mansion is beautiful.” I said a little above a whisper. “It's a pack house.” Ciara corrected me almost immediately. “My bad.” I said and we both laughed. The pack house was more beautiful than I imagined. “What is that?” “It's a special entrance to the Alpha’s chamber.” I was amazed because the place looked really beautiful. “Wow.” I went closer and I was amazed to see what the chamber looked like. “He's wealthier than I imagined.” Ciara turned to look at me when she heard what I said. “Did I say anything wrong again?” “No.” She replied and we continued our tour around the pack house. “There's a….” “You can't go there.” Ciara stopped me immediately. She looked really frightened when she stopped me. I looked at the place and it looked abandoned. “Why? It's in the pack house too.” I said to her still wondering why she said I can't go in there. As much as I was frightened because of how the place looked I still want to see what it looks like inside and with her stopping me I suddenly became even more curious to know who is in there and why I can't go in. “It belongs to the pack witch.” My heart skipped the moment I heard what Ciara said to me. I can't believe there's a witch here too. “What? A real witch?” Ciara looked at me like I was crazy so I had to control myself and not act too scared but the thought of it alone was creepy. “Yes, she's been living here for decades.” “So why does it look like that?” “The house cannot be renewed, it's been like that for so many years.” I looked at the old creepy house and I had goosebumps. I can't believe there's really a witch here. “I suddenly feel sick, can I head back to the room now?” Ciara nodded her head and we turned around to leave.
