Chapter 22: Injury

2542 Words
I don’t know what happened to me, seeing him broke all the work I’d been doing with Francesca and I turned back into that meek terrified mute girl I’d been when I was his. I took an instinctive step back and tripped, falling onto my backside in the overgrown grass. I was shivering and trembling uncontrollably, and like I had in the dungeon he kept me in, I began to rock back and forth trying to comfort myself. Kane looked badly injured, but he joined Amdis, standing in front of me protectively, still in lion form. He snarled at Zedric, but Zedric only had eyes for me, I could see the bloodlust in them and how badly he wanted me, to hurt me. “I’ve been waiting for you,” Amdis said. Zedric finally looked at him and smirked, “your vampire tricks won’t work on me, I am almost as old as you are.” “And how would you know how old I am?” Amdis asked. “I have my ways, I do my research.” Zedrics long brown hair blew gently in the cool breeze, he was wearing black trousers and a frilly shirt with the sleeves pulled up. “Shall we?” He grinned at Amdis and withdrew a sword of his own. Amdis pulled his out, and they began to circle one another. Zedric wasn’t as patient as Amdis and he tried to jab at Amdis who blocked it easily and calmly. Zedric slashed at the air, Amdis moved back, but the tip cut his cheek, making it bleed, Amdis didn’t even flinch, he stayed purely calm and focused. Zedric did some spinning move and tried to s***h again but Amdis lifted his own sword blocking it, and using the sword pushed against Zedrics making him stumble back. Amdis chose his momentary stun to s***h out at Zedrics neck, but he dodged it just in time ducking and then slashed at Amdis’ legs, Amdis jumped up making him miss and then brought his sword down on Zedrics back, it split Zedrics back, and I saw his shirt soak in blood, it didn’t faze him, and he got back up and they started clashing their swords together as they fought. Amdis tried to use his scary power, the one where he could control someone’s blood inside of them, it worked a little bit and Zedric stumbled and clutched his chest, but he fought against it and growling, threw himself violently at Amdis, slashing and hacking with his sword desperate to strike a killing blow but Amdis blocked all his hits, only a couple managed to cut his arms and his thigh at one point. Kane tried to attack Zedric from behind, but he was too fast and blocked Kane’s bite and slashed across his eye, just missing his eyeball, he was still able to block Amdis too and Amdis called out to Kane, “I can handle him, go keep Rochelle safe.” Kane came and stood next to me while I still rocked and trembled, he nudged me gently with his nose and I hugged his leg tight, I knew I was hindering him by clinging to his leg, if any danger came I would slow him down and even a second could be all it took for the enemy to hurt us both, but my terror had its grip on me, and I wasn’t thinking rationally. Amdis had managed to cut Zedric everywhere, and he said, “I am satisfied now, one cut for every cut you made on her,” he growled at Zedric. Zedric smiled manically, and I felt his power fill the air, I felt him trying to reach my mind, felt him scraping against my brain in a metaphysical sense, pure terror filled me, I was terrified he could take me back as his pet even though I knew he couldn’t unless I was willing and gave permission, he had broken me mentally which was how he had managed to make me give consent and be willing, he promised the pain and t.orture would end if I just accepted his offer. Terror consumed me, but I felt different, it was stronger, it was all consuming and I realised this was one of his gifts, he could enhance your fear, and he was doing that to me and feeding on it. Amdis wasn’t stupid, he knew what was happening, and he pulled out a different sword, I knew now, that he used the shadows to hide his weapons. He pulled out a beautiful sword, it looked wicked sharp and heavier than the one he had previously been using, in the middle of the handle it had a sun stone with a phoenix engraved on it. Zedric lost his grin when he saw the sword, he knew what it was and took a step back. I was confused until I saw Amdis prick the tip of his finger on the sword, giving it a drop of his blood it looked like, because then it came to roaring life, the blade was on fire and suddenly Amdis wasn’t calm and blocking Zedric anymore, he ferociously and expertly cut the air where Zedric had been mere centimetres before and kept slashing and hacking towards Zedric, he was still graceful in his movements, like a dance, and it wasn’t long before Zedric got distracted trying to use his powers and Amdis used the distraction to plunge the sword directly in to his stomach, engulfing him in flames and dragged it up to his chest where his heart was. It was messy and when Zedric dropped to the floor gasping, Amdis brought his sword back out and half of Zedrics heart with it. Zedric grew seemingly lifeless, but I remembered what Amdis had told me about how to truly kill a vampire. I had never seen Amdis behave so violently before and watched stunned as he shoved his hand in to Zedrics chest and pulled out the remainder of his heart so he could watch the whole heart burn to ash, the sword had set Zedrics body on fire but Amdis clearly wanted to be thorough, and I had to close my eyes when he brought his sword down on Zedrics forehead to get to his brain. I was trembling throughout the entire thing, and Kane shifted back to human form and nudged me gently. “Hey, you’re alright babe, he’s dead now.” I didn’t respond, I had gone right back to my mute days, I just couldn’t form the words or bring myself to talk. Amdis joined us when he was finished and bent down in front of me. “Rochelle?” He said. I ignored him, only managing a whimper and couldn’t bring myself to meet his eyes. He ever so gently cupped my chin and brought my eyes up to meet his and softly said, “it’s ok, my little pet, you are safe now.” When I still didn’t answer, he gently got me up on my feet and pulled me into his arms. I felt his warmth and his comfort and slowly stopped shaking. Still holding me, he looked over my head at Kane and said. “Will you be ok to clean up while I take care of Rochelle?” Kane nodded and went over to the burning bodies. Amdis slowly led me away, back towards Michelle’s house. He didn’t try to talk to me, I think he knew I was unable to speak right now and that I needed some time to recover. When we got back, he sat on the sofa with me and held me, he patiently allowed me to cling to him, my arm wrapped tightly around his waist while he softly played with my hair for hours. When it was getting dark, he murmured, “my little pet, you should try to eat something.” My cheek was pressed against his chest and I moved my face to look up at him, probably looking like a deer caught in the headlights. He stroked my cheek softly with the back of his fingers. “Will you try to eat for me, my pet?” I nodded and kissing my forehead, he got up and went to make me some food. I thought he would make me something like a sandwich, but no, he full on cooked a meal for me, I think he was making me a home cooked curry, it smelled really good. I got up off the sofa after a while and went into the kitchen, I wrapped my arms around his waist from behind and hugged his back. “Hello, my pet,” he said softly. “Hello,” I whispered. I think most pets of vampires enjoyed being called pet, people who weren’t a pet might find it weird or creepy, but it really wasn’t like how it sounded, we weren’t treated like chained up slaves or animals, in fact, we were treated very well, vampires treated their pets better than they did anyone else, I was learning for myself with Amdis because Zedric didn’t count, he had clearly been Insane. I found it soothing and comforting when Amdis called me his little pet, I loved the endearing name, and it made me feel cared about, it wasn’t often he said it. He turned to face me when I spoke and said, “are you feeling a little better?” I nodded and he smiled, “good, I am glad.” I looked up and touched the cuts on his face lightly. “I am fine,” he smiled. “No, let me clean you up,” I said. “I will heal when I feed, it is only because I have not fed recently.” “Well until then let me clean you up.” I walked off before he could say anything else and found a medical kit in Michelle’s bathroom. Walking back into the kitchen, I said, “sit.” Sighing, he left the food to simmer and sat down on the kitchen chair. I got out some disinfectant wipes and cleaned off the blood and dirt, he was as still as a statue, some cuts were nasty and deep, but he didn’t even so much as move, it was like he felt nothing. I tried to use a plaster for the cuts, but he gently grabbed my wrist and said, “I am fine, I do not need to be covered in plasters.” “Fine,” I sighed and closed the box. He dished up the curry for me and my stomach rumbled, it smelt amazing. I ate all of it and was finishing the last of it off when Kane turned up. He was much more injured than Amdis and he limped in to the kitchen. “You feeling better, babe?” He asked. “Her name is Rochelle,” Amdis said. Kane looked at him and said, “right, but it’s fine for you to call her your pet and s.hit?” Amdis didn’t reply and then Kane looked at him more intensely, “wait, that means you made her your pet?” “I had to, she belonged to Zedric and he was threatening vile things to her and causing her pain, he also knew her location through the bond, so I broke it.” “By making her yours?” Amdis nodded and Kane looked at me, “you happy about that babe?” “Her name is Rochelle,” Amdis said again. Kane turned to him and snorted, “you are so jealous.” “No I am not.” “Yeah you f.ucking are, I can’t even call her an endearing name without you getting all possessive about it.” Amdis ignored him and took my empty plate to the sink. Kane’s eye had a deep claw mark going down it, luckily the eye itself was untouched. Blood dripped heavily down his face from the cut, and some was drying. “We should clean you up,” I said. “I’m fine, babe.” He looked at Amdis when he called me that, clearly he had done it on purpose, but Amdis didn’t react. “No you’re not, sit down.” He did as I said, smirking. I opened the medical box again and asked, “why haven’t you healed?” “My mother is a werelion but my father is human, I can shift to my lion form and I can heal some of the damage, but I don’t get the full healing effects that purebred wereanimals get.” “Oh, that’s interesting, I didn’t know that.” I cleaned the blood away, so I could see what I was looking at, when the blood was wiped away, I could see the cut on his eye was deep enough it needed stitches. “You need stitches, but I don’t know how to do that.” “I do.” Amdis came over and gently stood me up, so he could sit in my seat and take over. He leaned in close to look at the cut, and Kane muttered, “any closer, and you’ll be kissing me.” “Don’t be such a baby,” Amdis said and then got the needle and thread and began stitching the cut, Kane growled at one sore spot, but that was it. “Pull your trousers down,” I said, making them both stare at me in shock. “Uh, what?” Kane asked. “I saw that leopard tear a chunk off your leg.” “I’ll be fine.” “Do as she says,” Amdis said. Kane growled inhumanly but pulled them down, clearly he didn’t like being told what to do. I winced at the site of his leg, it was so bad that he had to peel away his jeans. “You need to go to the hospital,” I gasped. “It’s fine,” he grumbled, but Amdis said, “I’ll take you to the hospital, if you cannot heal, then you are prone to infection if it is not treated.” “I don’t need the hospital.” “If you want to keep your job you do, do you really want to risk losing it?” Amdis challenged. “F.ucking hell, fine, but I’m not walking outside in just my f.ucking boxers.” Amdis went and got him some spare trousers and Kane pulled them on himself, refusing any help. Amdis looked at me and said, “I hate to leave you alone, but it’s not very far and Zedric is dead, you should be safe, but lock the doors and windows and stay in one room just in case.” I nodded and went over to hug Kane. He grinned at me, “thanks babe, do I get a kiss too?” Amdis pulled him to his feet and pushed him towards the door. “Alright, calm down, Mr jealous,” Kane laughed. They left, and then it was silent, I didn’t like the silence, so I turned on the tv and went around to lock everything up like Amdis had told me to.
