Michelle must have told him where I lived because he pulled up outside my house. I couldn’t believe she had gone to all this effort for me, and I was so incredibly grateful, I knew she came from a very well off family, which was how she was most likely able to afford this, she must have been paying my rent too while I was gone, and I choked up as I got out of the car thinking about it, the fact my home was still my home meant she must have been.
I didn’t have my keys on me, and the vampire whose name I still didn’t know picked my lock expertly and opened the door for me. I stepped inside and hesitated before the next part, I was still so terrified, but he couldn’t do anything worse than what I’d already been through, and he didn’t seem to want to hurt me either, so I said, “please come inside…?”
“Oh, my apologies, my name is Amdis.”
“Please come inside, Amdis.”
He stepped inside and for a moment I held my breath, I don’t know why, he could have killed me a hundred times over on the way home. I relaxed when he walked past me. I watched as he walked around my home checking every room, checking all the windows, doors, closets, he even checked under my bed to make sure it was safe.
“It’s all clear,” he said.
“Thank you, I’m going to get ready for bed, if that’s ok?” I asked.
“Of course.” He sat down on my couch and I went into the bathroom. My bathroom was painted in a soft olive green colour with brown Lino flooring and brown shelves, I had a bath that was also a shower and undressing I climbed in and turned the shower on.
It felt divine as the water cascaded down on me, this was reality, so I wasn’t clean, I didn’t smell nice, I looked filthy, and I smelt it, I don’t think I had been allowed to wash for over six months, it had been a rarity and when I had been allowed it was with a hose of cold water.
I felt embarrassed knowing Amdis must have been struggling being so close to me while I smelt so bad, vampires had as good a sense of smell as werewolves did.
I scrubbed myself, lathered myself in soap and scrubbed again so many times I lost count. I washed my hair that was usually black thick and curly with some hints of golden brown and honey blonde tones running through it, right now, it was a matted mess, and I couldn’t even see the gold brown or honey blonde tones.
When I was finished, I looked in the mirror and smiled at the results, my soft black toned skin was clean and fresh, my hair was wet, but I could see that hint of golden tones again, and it was no longer matted.
I lost my smile as I looked at my body, I could do nothing to get rid of the scars left behind. I was covered in bite mark scars, I had big scars running across my stomach from the knife they had enjoyed dragging across my skin. I had burn scars, one was the shape of a cross, they had made it scolding hot and placed it against my left b.reast as some sort of funny joke.
I had been w.hipped with chains leaving scars across the backs of my legs, the front of my thighs, my arms, the whole of my back. I knew there was a big rough jagged scar on my back too, it ran from my shoulder blade all the way down to my tailbone, that had been from a sword. On my right shoulder blade was a deep thick scar like someone had torn a chunk out, and they had, one of them had lost control feeding on me and Zedric had to pull them away before I died, because they wouldn’t let go a big chunk of my flesh had come away in their mouth.
I pulled my pajamas on, dusky pink silk trousers and a matching shirt, I put my slippers on too because even my feet had scars and I didn’t want Amdis to see.
It had been hours of driving, so it was around nine o clock at night, and I was exhausted, I couldn’t remember the last time I had slept peacefully or fully.
He was still sitting on the sofa as still as a statue, it was eerie, and I asked, “would you like a drink or any food? I can check if I have anything.”
“No, thank you, get some rest.”
Nodding I headed to my room and saw my sheets had been changed, they were crisp white and brand new by the looks of it, and again I grew teary eyed. When I had gone to the shops the day of my kidnap I had left my phone at home, I saw it on my bedside table and charged it, when it was back on I called Michelle.
“Hello?” Her voice was as friendly and feminine as it had always been, and I broke down crying.
“Michelle?” I cried.
“Rochelle, is that you?”
“Yes!”
“Oh my god! Are you ok? I can’t believe he finally found you, can I come over?”
“I’m about to go to bed but tomorrow?”
I didn’t want to admit the truth that being forced to sleep with other females had made me fearful of them, it sounded silly, and I was too embarrassed, tomorrow would give me time to prepare myself more.
“Yes, of course, you must be so exhausted, what happened?”
I spent most of the night telling her everything, and by the end we were both crying. “I’m so sorry, everybody had given up and thought you were dead, but I knew you weren’t, I just knew it, I hired Amdis, I searched months for the perfect bodyguard, he was listed as both a bodyguard and an assassin, his reviews were all amazing, and he was listed as their number one, so I hired him before anyone else could, it took two months of waiting for him to be free and as soon as I saw he was I clicked on it, I checked every day.”
“I’m so glad you did, I don’t think I would have survived much longer.”
“I’m so sorry, if I’d known it was vampires that had taken you, I wouldn’t have chosen one to guard you.”
“It’s fine, really, I’m so happy you didn’t give up on me, he seems professional and polite.”
When I started yawning, she told me to go to sleep, and said she would see me tomorrow. The bed was so comfortable, warm and soft that I fell asleep instantly. I didn’t sleep comfortably for long, I was having a nightmare about Zedric and his vampires chaining me up as they so often did to t.orture for fun, I thrashed around screaming and crying and woke up to Amdis shaking me awake.
I screamed when I saw him and scrambled back until my back hit the wall, I hugged myself as tightly against it as I could and hid my face.
“My apologies, my lady, but I heard you screaming, and you seemed in quite a state, so I thought it best to wake you, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
My heart was pounding so hard in my chest I couldn’t speak, my body was shaking uncontrollably, and I don’t think Amdis had ever come across anyone like me before, I don’t think he knew what to do so he gently wrapped a blanket around me and backed off, giving me the space I needed. “I am just outside if you need me.” He quietly closed the door and left me alone. I didn’t really want to be alone, I just wanted someone to hold me and tell me it would be alright, but I was terrified of vampires right now and even more terrified of female vampires after the things Zedric had made me do with them.
I must have fallen asleep again at some point because when I next opened my eyes it was morning. I looked outside, and as usual, the sky was still covered in dark grey clouds, and it was lightly drizzling with rain, personally I had always enjoyed this weather, it was one of the reasons I had moved from my original hometown, London to Wales, it gave me cosy vibes and was perfect for watching scary movies.
I got up out of the bed and felt almost like I was dreaming, nothing felt quite real as I went through my drawers looking for clothes, I wasn’t used to having freedom and being able to just get up and do what I wanted. I found some jeans and pulled them on, and they were so loose from where I had lost so much weight, the fabric was harsh against my skin too and irritated my scars making them sore, a lot of them were still new and fresh.
I took them off and found some leggings that were also loose on me, but I found a belt to help keep them up until I could buy new clothes, I pulled on a white long sleeved top and pulled a red hoodie on that drowned me now. I didn’t want any scars showing, so I also put on a fashion neck scarf I found, it wouldn’t be too strange me being dressed so much, it wasn’t exactly hot and warm here.
I pulled on my socks and finally left my bedroom. Amdis was stood looking outside my window with his arms behind his back like some military soldier.
He didn’t turn when I entered the room, but I knew he knew I was here, vampires had incredible hearing, I knew he would be able to hear my very blood rushing through my veins.
“Good morning, my lady,” he greeted me while still staring out the window.
“You don’t need to call me that,” I replied quietly.
He did turn to face me then and replied, “my apologies, but I do not know your name.”
“Didn’t Michelle tell you?”
“I have not had the pleasure of meeting her in person, she simply gave me the information of your disappearance, your age, gender and that was all I needed.”
“My name is Rochelle Hansley.”
He gave a nod, “Rochelle Hansley, I shall remember that.”
Michelle had messaged me this morning about meeting up, and I chose a small café I knew that was only a five minute walk from where I lived.
I could have invited her here, but I wasn’t ready for that yet, I felt more comfortable being somewhere public.
“I’m meeting Michelle at a café,” I casually told him hoping he wouldn’t want to come with me, of course he did.
“I shall come with you, although why not invite her to your home?”
I shrugged and kept my head down, focusing intently on my shoes as I slipped them on. “I know it’s silly and irrational of me, my own friend would never hurt me, but, well, I was made to experience things with females I wish never to go through again, I feel safer somewhere more public.”
He looked at me curiously, but he didn’t ask any more questions and simply opened the door for me.
