Hi, I'm Britney most people call me Brit oh yeah my last name …..Well, I’ve never met my father so I go by my mum’s... Jordan …Britney Jordan. I’m a college graduate, grew up with my mum…I would’ve told you about my dad but I know literally nothing about him, anytime I asked my mum it never ended well so I closed that chapter. I grew up in Texas moved to Chicago at age ten, Ohio at fifteen, currently in Minnesota. I work alongside my mum so we never felt the pain of not having a man around……spent my spare time at the orphanage home and sometimes taking self-defense classes. I lived in my little fairytale until it ended when I received a call. I drove as fast as I could trying to avoid accidents and speeding tickets. On arrival at the hospital, I ran as fast as my legs could carry me……I got to the ER when I saw my mums friend Alicia staring at me in my state of confusion. Tears rolled down my cheeks as she said words I didn’t seem to understand…'she collapsed in my house I tried waking her up but no answer, she was rushed to the hospital a few minutes later, she has been diagnosed with nephritis and cancer of the lungs, I’m so sorry”……lung cancer? How? She never smoked…confusion filled my mind. “ma’am, excuse me?”, “Yeah...yes?” “Britney Jordan?” “Yes... that’s me” I answered wiping off the tears on my face as I walked with the nurse to my mums' ward. Seeing her on oxygen, tired and pale made me tear up. “Mum...” “Sweetie I’m going to be fine I promise” she muttered, “but I’m going to need you to do something for me ...” “anything” I replied “I need you to be strong no matter what happens” *sniff*”okay….I promise”. She got discharged a week later she had to quit her job. She was paid off but the money could only pay for her medications and chemotherapy for two weeks……I had a good job but I had to take up an extra one to afford six thousand dollars weekly for her chemotherapy. Six months after that she died due to complications during her surgery. Her death made a major impact on my life ……I had no one except myself. While I was packing up her stuff I found a brown dusty envelope hidden behind her bookshelf……no address nothing…I opened it and……the major part of my life that had been missing for over 20 years was right there. Apparently, she found out where he lives and every other detail that mattered. He is married with a five-year-old daughter and lives in California. I had a trip to plan. I sold the house and gathered enough money for my trip and another house but this time in California. *somewhere in California* After 30 hours on the road, I finally arrived at my destination, as exhausted as I was all I wanted to do was to find a place to lay my head for the night then check out my apartment tomorrow. I drove to a hotel I had already booked online and well... rested for the night "I have a long day tomorrow" I said to myself as I got under the duvet. I stopped by my apartment, checked it out... it looked pretty good to me so I spoke to the estate agent and made the necessary payments. Well, I have a whole lot of shopping to do. In a week my apartment was fully furnished…it was time to find my father. *a week later* I woke up hungover without even drinking. I was sick from the thought of how my father will take it when he finds out I'm his daughter…I rolled through my sheets and screamed into my pillow trying to psych myself that everything was going to be alright…well, how will I know if I didn't try? I drove to my dad's place parked by his driveway with this awful feeling in my stomach, I felt like I wanted to throw up but I couldn't, all I could was to summon up courage and push just one button……my life was being determined by a ding and a dong. ‘hi I’m Brit ……I’m looking for Daniel McAllister’ I said to the beautiful brunet lady that stood by the door who I guessed was his wife ‘okay……come in’ she said as she walked through the hallway ‘Honey you have a visitor’ she yelled as she took her daughter in to the kitchen. ‘Be down in a sec’ he said in his baritone voice as he climbed down the stairs. He was huge, tall, bald and dark skinned. That explained my dark skin. ‘Hey…’ he said trying to get my attention. ‘Oh umm yeah, I’m sorry…sorry…um sorry,’ I blabbed ‘hey! You’ve said sorry up to three times for an offense that hasn’t been committed’ he said as he placed his hand on my shoulder trying to calm me down. ‘So why don’t we start again…I’m Daniel McAllister’ ‘yeah I know ……I found this picture of you in my mums' stuff’ I said pulling out his picture from my back pocket and handing it over to him. ‘I think you are……’ I tried telling him he’s my father but my attention got drifted by his daughters laughter……I wasn’t going to wreck his home ‘you've got a cute kid’ I said as I smiled at him ‘oh thanks……you were going to say something…’ he said ‘oh my bad yeah um…I think you were her friend…her name is…was Mary’ I continued ‘was?’ he asked curiously ‘umm..Yeah, she’s dead…lung cancer and nephritis’ I said as I exhaled and looked down trying to cover up my pain with a fake smile ‘I’m...I’m so sorry for your loss’ he said as someone walked through the front door drifting both our attention to him. ‘Hey Mr. D’ the guy said ‘Bryan! How are you?’ ‘I’m good…oh, I’m sorry for interrupting your conversation’ Bryan said 'no worries I was just about to leave anyway…thanks for your time’ I said turning around ‘ wait…I didn’t get your name’ Daniel said. I looked over my shoulder ‘the name’s Britney…Britney Jordan’ I said as I smirked and walked out the front door.
