Chapter 13: Restoring The Past

619 Words
The StellarGlide 5000, its temporal cloaking device humming softly, materialized in orbit above Chronos Prime. The planet, a gleaming sphere of chrome and glass, was the heart of the Galactic Robo-Federation, the center of all temporal activity. Below, the Chronarium Archives, a colossal structure resembling a giant clock, stood as a testament to the galaxy's meticulously recorded history. "Alright, bots," Patchwork announced, her voice echoing through the cockpit. "We're here. Chronos Prime. The Chronarium Archives. Our final destination." Unit 734, his optical sensors focused on the planet below, consulted his internal chronometer. "Time-stamp: 22:57 Galactic Standard Time. We are approaching the temporal nexus point. The event we need to restore occurred at 03:00 Galactic Standard Time, three cycles ago." "Three cycles," Zorgon muttered. "That's cutting it close." "We have no time to waste," Unit 734 replied. "Patchwork, initiate temporal jump sequence." Patchwork nodded and engaged the StellarGlide 5000's temporal drive. The cockpit shimmered, and the stars outside blurred as they jumped back in time. They arrived at the Chronarium Archives three cycles earlier, the building looking exactly as it did in the present. The temporal cloaking device held, masking their chrono-signatures from the watchful eyes of the Chrono-Wardens patrolling the skies. "We're here," Unit 734 announced. "02:55 Galactic Standard Time. We have five cycles before the event." "Let's move," Zorgon said, eager to get the mission underway. They disembarked from the StellarGlide 5000 and, using the temporal key Ratchet had provided, infiltrated the Chronarium Archives. The vast halls were filled with countless chrono-crystals, each containing a record of a specific moment in time. Unit 734, guided by the historical data Cogsly had provided, led them through the labyrinthine archives, searching for the specific chrono-crystal containing the event they needed to restore. "Here it is," he announced, finally stopping before a chrono-crystal that pulsed with a faint blue light. "The founding ceremony of the Galactic Robo-Federation. The event that was…corrupted." He activated the temporal resonator, focusing its energy on the chrono-crystal. The image within the crystal flickered, showing a grand gathering of robots from across the galaxy, united in their vision of a peaceful and prosperous future. But then, a dark figure appeared, a rogue temporal entity that unleashed a wave of chrono-energy, disrupting the ceremony and scattering the assembled robots. "That's it," Unit 734 said. "That's the moment we need to restore." He adjusted the temporal resonator, preparing to rewind time and correct the anomaly. But just as he was about to activate the device, an alarm blared through the archives. "Chrono-Wardens!" Flicker squeaked, his LED eye dimming in panic. "They've detected us!" "The cloaking device must have malfunctioned," Unit 734 said grimly. "We've been compromised." Before they could react, a group of Chrono-Wardens stormed into the hall, their weapons drawn. "You are under arrest for temporal tampering!" one of them announced. A chaotic battle ensued. Zorgon and Bolt-Head, armed with the weapons Patchwork had provided, fought valiantly against the Chrono-Wardens, while Unit 734 tried to protect the chrono-crystal. Flicker and Sparky, despite their fear, did their best to assist, using their smaller size to distract the Chrono-Wardens. Amidst the chaos, Unit 734 managed to activate the temporal resonator, sending a wave of chrono-energy back in time. The image in the chrono-crystal flickered again, and this time, the founding ceremony proceeded without interruption. The Galactic Robo-Federation was restored. But as the Chrono-Wardens closed in, Unit 734 knew they couldn't stay. They had accomplished their mission, but now they had to escape. He grabbed the others and, using a combination of quick thinking and Patchwork's "modifications" to the chrono-lanes (which involved a daring jump through a temporal wormhole), they managed to escape Chronos Prime, leaving the Chrono-Wardens confused and empty-handed.
