Serenity’s POV:
Maddison and I haven't talked about that hallway incident since it happened
After P.E she took my number and we have been texting a lot lately
It was nice to have some company for once
My mom and Julia weren't good for it
I sat at the kitchen island watching her drink from a wine bottle
She was swaying to nothing as the whole house was quite
"Mom I think it's time to put the bottle down," I said softly
"What did you just say to me" she hissed
"Put the bottle down and go to bed, Mom"
"Don't tell me what to f*****g DO!" She shouted smashing the wine bottle on the floor
I flinched as shards of glass flew around the room
"I wish you were the one that died why did they have to take my baby my baby" she sobbed as she slid down the wall
"I know Mom I know" I whispered sorrowfully
Even though she was drunk I knew she meant every word
It was no surprise
I walked over to her and brought her up to her feet
I carried her up the steps and into her room
Placing her on the bed I whispered a small good night
As I was walking out I turned around to glance at her once more
She was whispering his name
With a deep sigh, I walked out of her room
I walked past Elijah's room and froze
I turned towards the door and turned the handle
The door was dark and untouched
Just as he had left it
I sat in the dark room and played with the football in my hands that I took off the dresser
I looked around
I saw all the trophies
All the photos
All the achievements
He had so much going for him
Tears rolled down my cheek as I curled up on the floor holding the football close to my chest
Why did he have to leave me
Why did he do this to me
I sobbed continuously on the floor
Until my eyes closed and I drifted into peaceful darkness.
****
I woke up still curled up on the floor and with a pounding headache
I got up off the floor dazed
I staggered to my feet dropping the football in hand
I glanced outside and saw that the sun was already brightly shining in the sky
I looked at the clock above the dresser and saw it was 12:30
She didn't check on me I thought with a frown on my face
But I wasn't surprised about her actions
Every day I wake up and expect to see her run and hug me
Kiss me
Tell me she loves me
And how she knows how hard this is on me
And that she was sorry for turning her back on me when I needed her the most
But those days never came
They will never come
I walked to the door turned the knob and walked outside
The house was quite
Painfully quiet
I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen
I stopped abruptly when I remembered there were shards of still on the floor from last night's incident
With a sigh, I took up a broom and began sweeping up the broken glass
I scooped them up with a paper towel and threw them in the bin
I looked around the kitchen unsure of what to do next
I opted to have a quick breakfast/lunch
Which was a grilled chicken sandwich and some apple juice
As I sat on the seat in front of the kitchen island ready to eat the doorbell rang
I inwardly groaned and ignored it
No one knows I'm here they'll leave soon
I went in for a bite of the sandwich and the bell rang continuously
I angrily dropped the sandwich on the plate and walked towards the door
I opened the door and came across a smiling Sebastian
"Hey, what are you doing here?" I asked feeling a bit surprised at his visit
"I didn't see you in the morning and I wanted to see if you were doing okay," he said shyly
"I'm doing good thanks for asking come in," I said with a smile and he walked past me and into my home
"It's been a while since I've been here"
"Yeah I guess it has," I said closing the door
"Nothing's changed," he said with a small chuckle
"Yeah you know my mom is very constant with things" I replied as I walked back to the island to finish my sandwich
"Are you drinking apple juice?" he asked amused taking a seat beside me
"Um yes do you have some sort of vendetta against apple juice" I asked while taking a sip of my drink
"Yes I do because everyone knows that orange juice is much better" he replied
"Ok you know what you are not going to come into my house and disrespect apple juice like that okay," I said jokingly pointing my finger toward the door
"Ok alright if I say apple juice is better than orange juice you owe me a second date on Saturday," he said with that swoon-worthy smile of his
"Hmmm that doesn't sound convincing"
"Hey I'm going against my moral compass here," he said with humor in his voice and I laughed
"Alright fine go ahead"
"Apple juice is far more 10 times 1000 times better than orange juice"
"You Mr. Marino have you're self a date on Saturday," I said my smile stretching from ear to ear
"Give me your number," he said handing me his phone and I was in my head screaming and rolling
I quickly inputted my number and handed it back to him
"Aren't you supposed to be headed back to school right now?" I asked curiously
"Oh s**t, f**k" he replied jumping off the counter
I bent over laughing seeing the school's star quarterback stumbling over his own two feet
"How did you even leave the compound" I asked between laughter
"A magician never reveals his secret," he said with a smirk and a wink
He ran out the door and to his car with me Still inside laughing
After a few seconds, I heard him drive off blowing the horn a couple of times
I sat with my half-eaten sandwich in front of me still smiling
I was happy Sebastian came back into my life
This was the only real joy I felt in a long while
I smiled harder when I realized he asked me on a second "date"
My feelings for him were growing at an abnormal rate
But I wasn’t scared
I wasn't afraid of the love I feel for him
I wanted them to grow stronger
I wanted them to consume me
Sebastian was my holy grail
He was saving me
From the inevitable.
