The rest of the day spent on pack grounds wasn’t so bad. I have been nervous about staying here at first, but the pack has made me feel welcome, and the constant presence of Drake brings a sense of comfort I did not expect. There is a warmth here, a feeling of safety I did not realize I was craving.
By the time the sun dips low, signaling the end of the day, I find myself heading up to Drake’s apartment to get ready for my shift at the hospital. A flicker of excitement bubbles in my chest as I pull on my scrubs. Finally, something that feels normal, something that connects me to the life I have worked so hard to build.
I have missed the hospital, the patients, the sense of purpose it gives me. I cannot wait to step back into that world, even if only for a few hours.
