Sophia's POV It's been a week since I've used any narcotics or alcoholic beverages. My body is shivering as a result of the drugs' hunger. My stomach hurts from the lack of alcohol. Mom would frequently enter the room or stay with me to watch over me. But I can't control myself today, and I'm going to need the pills anyway. I took the phone from the table and dialled Brown, the drug dealer. "I need a package of medications in the city hospital right now," I remarked, my thirst quenched. My hands trembled, and I was on the verge of puking. With a heavy stomach, I dashed to the bathroom and vomited fast into the sink. While falling to the ground and losing consciousness, my body felt exhausted and restless. After a few hours, I was awakened by the sound of IV drops. Mom was sitting in a chair next to me, her head resting on my hand on the bed. I tried clearing my throat to rouse her up, but she remained silent. My phone suddenly rang, and my mother was startled awake. She rubbed her neck in anguish, grunting. I was concerned for her but didn't know how to show my concern. "You have awoken. Thank you, God. What are your current feelings?" She grinned as she glanced at me. The constant ringing of my phone, however, cut off her talk. I get tensed that may be Brown was calling. I was attached to the IV so I could not reached to my phone. Then, Mom understood me and picked up the call and while she put the call on the speaker. "What the hell happened to you? I brought the medication to the hospital and have been waiting for you for two hours ", he yelled angrily. Mom's eyes widened as she hung up the phone. I swallowed my humiliation and hung my head down. She kept the phone on the table and didn't say anything to me. She took the cash from her purse. "where he has requested your presence. I'll deliver the package to you. Don't forget about Emily, though," she let out a long sigh. She emphasised a word that brought back memories of my father's final words, "Be brave." And I proved him incorrect by proving that I would never be brave enough to accept my weaknesses and confront the matter. I need to regain control of my body and summon the confidence to confront the situation whatsoever. I murmured, "Don't bring it, I don't need anything right now," and closed my eyes. I lack the courage to confront her. Then I heard her approaching the door with her footsteps. "Don't make the same mistake twice. We'll be leaving this city tomorrow. Come home with Alex tonight if you want to leave these things behind," she said it all in one breath and then walked out of the room. Shit In annoyance, I cursed under my breath and closed my eyes to rest. After a few hours, I felt my hands being touched and heard my name being called repeatedly. I gasped in pain as I opened my eyes slightly. "Are you all right?" Alexander inquired, his brow furrowed. In answer, I nodded my head. In response, he hummed, "Hmm." I noticed that I had been relocated to a communal room and had IV cables hooked to me. He fumbled with his fingers, as if he wanted to say something but couldn't. "When are we going to leave?" I inquired of him as I sat on the bed. Home?" He blinked his eyes and inquired, perplexed. I shrugged my shoulders, not wanting to put any more emphasis on that word. They may believe that I have forgiven them as a result. When I was climbing down from the bed, he went forward to assist me. With my palm on his face, I came to a halt. I got up and went into the washroom, where I changed into the outfit that my mother might have retained. It consisted of a pair of pants and a top. I got up and walked out of the restroom. "Let's go wherever your wife is waiting," I said coldly. His face lit up, and a smile danced across his lips. He smiled and nodded his head firmly. I was waiting for him in a car while he completed all of the necessary hospital paperwork. He left the hospital dressed in a fancy tuxedo, just like his father. I shook my head, indicating that I was camping with my father. No one can ever take his place. He slid open the car door and took a seat beside my seat. Then he brought me an energising beverage. "The doctor has told you to drink more liquid and to stay away from alcohol and other substances," he remarked as he buckled up. "Hmm," I responded, humming as I opened the bottle of energising drink. The entire journey was silent, and neither I nor he said anything. I breathed a sigh of relief that he had not said anything because I was afraid that if he had, I might have said something hurtful to him. It's just that my rages haven't faded with the passage of time. I'll need some time to clear my head and avoid making the same mistake again. My contemplation was delayed as the car came to a standstill. I spotted Emily running towards me as I stepped out of the car. "Big mama, Sophia has arrived," she announced, clapping her hands and clutching her teddy in one arm. I grinned as I lifted her up in my arms, cheering for her joy. "How are things going for you, Emily?" I inquired of her. She flashed a toothy grin and took my finger in hers. My mother appears behind her, smiling. Her surprise stayed in her eyes, and she paused in her stride to stare me down. "Rose, we have to leave at 12 a.m., and the flight will be ready in under an hour," Alexander said, hugging her. She averted her sight from Alexander and responded with a nod. "I've set up a room for you. It's right next to Emily's room "she murmured, moving away from me. Her voice grew louder, and her face flushed. She could be crying, and the sorrow has twisted my heart. Even though we didn't get along, I still cared about her. Emily led me around her room, showing me her toys and dolls. I was relieved that she shared a home with Mr. and Mrs. Reed. As mom had told me that they have adopt her. They want to lesser my guilt by adopting her and also don't want another sophia. "Sophia, Sophia," My thoughts were interrupted by Emily voice. "Yes, emily." I raised my eyebrows and asked her. "Have you left doing bad things ?" She tugged her hair strands and asked me with a pout. Her question took me off guard and she looked with a hope that I left the bad things of my life. I don't want to hurt her feelings. So without answering her I walked out of her room. Mom informed me that they had adopted her. They want to adopt her to absolve me of my guilt, and they also don't want another Sophia. "Sophia, Sophia." Emily's words interrupted my thoughts. "Yes, Emily." I lifted my brows and inquired. "Have you gone off and done some awful stuff?" With a pout, she yanked at her hair strands and questioned. Her inquiry caught me off guard, and she expressed optimism that I had moved on from the worst aspects of my life. I don't want to offend her in any way. So I walked out of her room without responding her.
