Sophia's POV
We arrived in New York the next morning on the Reed's Company's private plane. Because I didn't want to add to the tension between us, I ignored mum and Alexander. Emily and Sam, my stepbrother, were having a good time playing together. After last night, Emily didn't ask any more questions. It was really impolite of me to leave our talk and walk out of her room. We arrived at my grandmother's residence. It was a three-story residence with staff who assisted her in caring for herself and a little old age home. Despite the fact that my relationship with my mother was strained, Nonna would frequently call and inquire about my well-being. She repeatedly asked me to stay with her, but I declined.
I noticed Nonna approaching us, dressed in a white long shirt with a white fluffy top. Her grey hair and wrinkled face were the same, as were her sprakling eyes. She appeared to be the same lovely nonna. She exclaimed in loud tone and grinned from ear to ear "Sophia, my dear. I'd been missing you terribly," I could tell she was the same Strong lady because she gripped me in a tight warm hug.
"Please, Nonna, leave me alone," I murmured quietly. She laughed and drew away from me.
"I couldn't possibly abandon my granddaughter. I'm finally meeting you after all these years "she added, frowning. "I missed you too," I said as I pecked her on the head. After an afternoon nap, we returned to our rooms and assembled in the dining area for dinner. Emily is easily accepted as a family member by Nonna.
Despite the fact that she was disappointed by me, she did not show it to me. "I took care of your enrollment to New York College. You can join it as soon as tomorrow "While spoon-feeding Sam, Alex said. I averted my sight from him, unsure of how to answer.
"Wow, Sophie is going to college," Emily said, expressed herself by clapping her hands and smiling.
I grinned at her with delight and said, "OK, I'll go tomorrow," With my single response, everyone's smile got even broader. I was laying on the floor, feeling my body's desire for drugs. I need to focus on something else. So, to relax, I decided to look for a boxing club on the internet. After doing so, I found the club and wrote down the address.
I came out of the room wearing my full t-shirt with my black hoodie and my gloves in my bag. Mom furrowed her brows and stared at my bag as I walked down the stairs.
"Are you going to abandon us once more?" She inquired, concerned. Tears streamed down her cheek. I received the impression that she was crying for me. As a result, I swiftly responded to her, "No, I'm joining a local boxing club. I'll be there in a few hours."
She stared at me for a few minutes before saying anything. I left the house and went straight to the boxing gym. I enjoyed fighting with boys because it gave me more confidence and strength. Though the lads are generally oblivious of my gender during the battle, it made me feel equal.
If they knew I was a girl before a battle, they made the mistake of thinking I was a poor opponent for them, but I proved them wrong, and they kissed their ass. As I entered the club from the back door. Hot breath, sweat, and stress permeated the air. A couple boys were practising on a punching bag. I looked around for the club coach and noticed a fit man with grey hair. Coach was written in bold on his jacket while he was scolding several boys. I walked up to him and cleared my throat in an attempt to get his attention.
"Sir, pardon me. I came here to become a member of this club," I murmured, my gaze drawn to his. He had a broad face and a small nose, but a minor cut on his cheek.
"Are you a girl?" he said, raising his brows and asking me sternly.
"Yes, so what," I triumphantly answered, removing my hoddie. He tried to observe my face with his eyes focused.
"If you want, you can fight with me?" I asked, challenging him while looking into his eyes.
"Okay, Reynold is going to fight you. However, if you are injured, it is not our fault," he continued, his countenance solemn. After hearing the word Hurt, I chuckled because I was Hurt every day. Then I responded by nodding my head.
"If I win, I'll come here frequently and you'll coach me."
He didn't respond and quickly walked away. I removed my hoddie and sweatshirt and replaced it with a boxing tight polyster t-shirt. I could feel every man in the club looking at me. But I brushed it aside and entered the boxing ring. I put on my boxing gloves and warmed up. The boys suddenly yelled Reynold's name from the ring.
Everyone was cheering him on, "Reynold, Reynold." I averted my gaze to the door and noticed a man with deep blue eyes and a mask over his face. As our gazes connected, he came to a halt in his path.
He returned his gaze to the coach, and the two of them argued about something. He entered the boxing ring with a frustrated sigh. His chiselled body and tanned muscles with burst nerves. It felt odd, I felt tingles in my stomache.
I ignored the tingles in my hand and extended my hand for a shake. As we touched hands, he forwarded his perplexed veins hand. Our current jolt sent shivers up my spine.
