The following week slipped by more quietly than I expected.
For months, every day had felt like a battle against something. There was always another problem waiting around the corner, another secret threatening to surface, another fear demanding my attention. I had become so used to carrying the weight of those worries that I almost didn't know what to do with myself when life finally slowed down.
Not that my problems had disappeared.
The questions surrounding my parents were still there.
The investigation was still there.
Richard Wolfe still existed.
None of those things had changed.
