Chapter 13
Nkechi sat at the table waiting for her partner. She didn’t often get out of Equity. She didn’t have friends. She looked around at the people in the restaurant. They were all at peace eating and marrying. They were not aware of the evil that dwelled amongst them. That brought her fulfillment, their ignorance.
This will be easy, she told herself.
She gasped when a cold hand came to rest upon her shoulder. Her dinner partner walked over to the chair opposite hers.
“It’s been a while”, Benjamin said as he took his seat.
“Twenty-one years can’t possibly be estimated as a while. I always wanted to come home”, she said. He raised his hand to shush her.
“We missed you so much, but we understood our place and the role we had to play in all these.”
