The defence takes the floor

In Italy, and especially in Naples, trials at first instance can even last several years. This is mainly due to the skill of defence lawyers in asking for adjournments: be they legitimate or artfully created.
The skill lies in winning, when it’s not possible to do so with substantive law, with procedure. The time barring period is one of these procedural techniques.
I learned trial rules at University. Courtrooms have taught me how to use the rules to my advantage. Life has given me the skills to master them.
But we don’t want to ask for any adjournments of any kind.
Firstly, because Riccio declares he is innocent and wants us to get him out of jail as soon as possible.
