When Anaya is born as an omega to a pureblood alpha and his luna, her parents barely bat an eye as her birth comes with a prophecy from the moon goddess that she will be mated to the future alpha of a neighboring pack, a union which would create mass prosperity. After Anaya loses her parents to a mysterious plague, she realizes that there is a huge target on her back, and the only person willing to help her is Theo—her mate. But even that changes when Anaya is announced to be pregnant when she has never shared an intimate moment with her mate. What happens when Theo turns against Anaya and disappears into thin air after a rogue attack? And what secrets are being hidden by Anaya’s strange pregnancy?

Chapter 1
Anaya was on her knees before her parents grave when a cool evening wind breezed by. Her fingers trailed lightly over the headstones on their graves. It grazed over the letters as she held her tears while the moon that was nearly full in the sky hung low over the cemetery, casting pale laughs all around her. She breathed out heavily, feeling weariness and regret like a weight on her chest. “I’m so sorry,” she said finally. Her voice sounded small in the stillness of the night, barely more than a breath. “I should have come sooner. I just… I couldn’t.” Her not yet fallen tears burned inside her, but she held them down. She had cried too much in the last years of her life. Four years had passed by since they were taken away, and it looked like yesterday to her. The epidemic that had invaded the pack took them from her, and left her as a child to lead such a big amount of people in her pack. This had caused a lot of issues seeing as no one wanted to be led by a child who didn’t know the first thing about leadership. But she had shown she could handle the situation by doing the best she could and even when those four years had been hell, she had tried her best to try and handle the pain as much as she could. “Sorry mama…” she muttered looking at the earth. “Sorry papa… I’ve been leading the pack; I was so busy in there… You can’t imagine how hard it is to lead when people are expecting you to fail. How did you do it?” Silence burdened her, except for the gentle rustle of leaves around. “I wish you were here,'’ she said quietly. ’'You never had a chance to teach me all I had to learn. I'm trying to do it by myself. It's not easy.” Her father, Alpha Leo, had always been a strong, fearless leader. He was supposed to guide her, to teach her how to lead, but his sudden death left her vulnerable. And being an omega only made things worse. The pack doubted her strength, her ability to rule. She swallowed hard and placed a small bouquet of wildflowers on the grave. “I’ll make you proud. I promise.” Taking a deep breath, Anaya stood, dusting off her clothes. The forest was dark around the graveyard. The trees reached into the sky, casting long shadows over everything below them. For some reason she suddenly felt like she was being watched and this creeped her out, but she shook her head like maybe she was being paranoid. “I should go,” She muttered, turning toward the narrow path that would lead her back to the packhouse again. As she walked, she felt that someone or something was watching her. She could feel the hair at the back of her neck rising and she started walking faster. The forest had always felt welcoming to her but tonight it was different. Anaya stood still and looked around. “Is anyone there?” she asked without letting her voice waver. But silence greeted her. She looked around before sighing. “Great. Now I’m seeing things,” she muttered. “I really need to get home.” She continued walking again but the feeling of being watched didn’t leave. While walking she heard a few thuds and leave crunches behind her which scared her to death as she spun around to confront whoever was there but found nothing. “Who’s there?” No answer. “Whoever is playing these games… you can stop now. I’m not afraid of you.“ But she was afraid. She just wanted to scare them off but it wasn’t working seeing as the people in the forest didn’t care about that as they only wanted to get to her. A shadow moved behind a tree, and Anaya tensed. She could feel someone’s presence now. “I see you,” she said with a growl. “Show yourself now!” After a moment of silence, nothing came out but she didn’t mind. She knew she had to keep going. She took in deep breaths and turned around as she brushed off the feeling from her. Without waiting, she started walking away from the place she was and tried to distract her mind with other things. She needed to get back to the packhouse and not let anything distract her from getting home. “Relax anaya,” she sighed. “It’s nothing, maybe I’m just tired and now I’m seeing things.” Those were words she was using to calm herself but it wasn’t working. She increases her steps as twigs snapped beneath her thuds and her breathing increased as well but every now and then she would turn back to see if her followers were gone only to her a crack in the distance and know they were still there. She was scared. Who were they? Rogues? Assassins? Sha shook her head and tried to calm her racing heart as she kept on walking. But they were getting louder. The crunch of twigs behind her and the frequent rustling made Anaya’s mouth go dry and her breath came out in short, uneven gasps. “I need to get home,” she wondered. Panic started to set in and she began walking faster, almost to a jog. Then, abruptly, two strange shapes appeared from the trees before her. Anaya stumbled back in shock, her eyes widening with terror. The two wolves loomed over her menacingly. “Well,” said the taller of the two wolves slowly as it advanced upon Anaya. “What have we here?” His voice held laughter, and there was joy in his eyes. His name was Caleb, one of the pack’s enforcers. The other wolf at his side, Thomas, sneered beside him; his smile even darker than Caleb’s. “Luna all out on her lonesome in the dark,” he taunted. “You scared?” Anaya took a step back, her voice shaky. “I… I’m just going home Caleb. Hello Thomas. Please let me get by.” Caleb laughed and stepped in front of her, blocking the way. “Home? So fast? The night is still young!” Thomas cussed before walking around her like she was a prey. “I don’t see what the rush is about. You should stay a while. It’s not cool to be walking around all alone. The moon goddess knows what crazy creature is out there.” Anaya’s throat tightened. “Please… let me go…” she whispered, trying to keep her voice even. Caleb laughed, and it made her shiver. “Let you go? Hmmm… Thomas, what do you think? Should we let our sweet Luna go?” Thomas smiled and thought god a while before shaking his head. “No, I don't think we should. She seems to be begging for a lesson.” Anaya backed up a step, but they matched her. She did it again and they got close to her. “Please I don’t want any problem, just let me be,” she pleaded but they shook their heads. “Problem?” Laughed Caleb. “Oh come on baby girl. Trouble will always find the weak.” “I am not weak," she spat as this time she was getting angry. “Not weak? You're omega-born, aren't you? And you believe yourself worthy to lead us? Anaya's heart skipped a beat, but she refused to let them sense her fear. “I may not be strong, but I won't let you scare me,” she said quietly. “Is that a fact?” Thomas chuckled beside him. “Sure you can handle it, princess? What’s to stop us from taking you here and making sure no one sees you again?” She saw the challenge in his eyes and hesitated to respond. It would give them too much satisfaction seeing as she couldn’t match their strength. Anaya swallowed her fear, trying to force it down. “Please,” she said again, “I just want to go home.” Caleb sighed an exaggerated sigh and looked over at Thomas. “You hearing this?” he asked him. “Please she said. What a pathetic was to beg.” Thomas nodded. “Yeah. Just like her father did when he died.” Anaya’s eyes burned with anger. “Don’t talk about my father.” Caleb raised an eyebrow. “Or what?” He took another step closer. “You gonna cry?” Anaya grit her teeth. “I’m serious,” she said, even though she knew they wouldn’t listen. Thomas snickered. “Aw, the little Luna’s trying to be scary, Caleb. Are you scared?” Caleb grinned. “I think we should show her how scary we can be.” Anaya’s heart began to race. She needed to get away from here and fast. “Just stay back!” she warned as she attempted to take a step backwards. However, before she had the chance to move an inch, Caleb reached out and got hold of her wrist with such a tight grasp it made her gasp. “Let me go!” she cried, and began to struggle. Thomas laughed. “It seems our Luna is in need of some discipline.” Anaya’s fear quickly became frustration as she fought back against the men to get her hand out of their grip. But this only made Caleb to squeeze very hard. “You are not going anywhere,” he growled. Anaya’s breath came in ragged gasps. She had to think fast. “I-I’ll scream,” she warned. “Everyone will hear me.” Caleb tilted his head. “Go ahead. Let’s see if anyone comes.” Thomas smirked. “No one’s coming to save you, Luna. You’re all alone out here.” “I don’t need any savior,” she said with a straight look. “I can save myself.” With a sigh, she brought her feet down on Caleb’s toes in a heavy stomp as hard as she could as he let her go which gave her the opportunity to run without even looking back. The trees blurred as she blitzed by with her heart pounding within her. She could hear their laughter but this made her run even faster. She just wanted to get home and escape their taunts and maybe tell someone about them but she knew getting home safely was a better option. “Run, Little Luna!” Thomas called after her. “But you can’t run away from us.” Anaya pushed harder; she could feel the branches cutting against her arms as she sprinted through the woods. She could hear them but she still wouldn’t look back. Just get home. Get home, she prayed to her wolf to take her out of here.
