My Runaway Mate

Chapter 5

Jaxson's POV

I close the lid on my laptop and rub my eyes. I can't believe I lost track of time. I wanted to be asleep hours ago, but here I am at 3 in the morning,still going over pack business.

As alpha,it goes with the territory. I'm responsible for everyone here. And believe me, there ares a lot of people. I am alpha to Blue moon pack, the largest and strongest pack in the country. We have just over 1,200 wolves here. Most of them live in cabins on the pack lands. The pack house is home to myself, my Beta, my gammas, and a few others as well as my parents.

I've been alpha for over ten years now. My father stepped down on my 18th birthday and handed the reins over. its not that I'm not grateful, I just thought he would of waited until I'd found my mate to take the place of Luna from my mother. Obviously,that wasn't the case.

I guess I'm just not meant to have a mate. I 've gone to many gatherings in hopes of finding her,but never had. I'd want to believe she's out there somewhere,and this pack really could use a Luna. We aren't struggling or anything like that, just some things require a woman's touch. My mother still acts as Luna since there is no active one at the moment, but i know she's ready to live the rest of her life with my father in retirement.

I was heading out of my office and up to my room when i got the mind link from some of my gammas who were patrolling..

Alpha, rouges just entered the territory on the south end.

Those damn rogues! They got some nerve conning onto my land. I was already in a bad mood tonight, lucky me, I get to take it out on those rouges. I am quickly on my way to the south gate as i mind like my beta, Kip.

Kip, rouges south side gate.

Already on my way. Kip replied in the mind link.

The scene was not exactly what i was expecting when i got there. While my gammas and I were heading straight towards the rouges, I saw the most beautiful girl running in front of them. She looked terrified. I instantly felt anger at these rouges for chasing her. I shifted into my wolf form because he was going crazy wanting to tear into these low lifes.

The woman saw us and shifted her direction to avoid us, apparently she thought we meant her harm. My heart was racing, not because of the rouges or my running, this was something else. My only thought was to get to this girl before it was too late.

As soon as I thought that, I hear her scream as the rouge chasing her slashes her side and pounces on top of her. This bastard is so dead. She's doing a good job fighting him off, but if i don't get there soon, no, I won't fail her.. I can't. I just don't know why.

I growl so loud, I felt the ground shake. I didn't know I had that much anger in me. Whatever, it worked. I got the rouges attention. I lunge at him, knocking him off of her and instantly go for his throat. He used his claws to gouge my shoulder,but i hardly felt it. I sink my teeth into his neck and jerk my head in the opposite direction until i heard the snap. The rouge feel limp straight to the ground. Dead. He got off to easy.

I turn and look at the girl. She's bleeding and panting and looks exhausted. Poor thing just fought off a rouge in human form. That couldn't of been easy.

I shift back in my human form because she looks terrified, I know my wolf is big and he can be pretty intimidating if you don't know us. Last thing i wanted was this girl to fear me.

I slowly walk up to her bending down to meet her beautiful blue eyes. I can tell she's losing consciousness, but i need to keep her awake. She hit her head pretty hard on the ground when that bastard pounced on her.

I need to talk to her, but I'm not exactly sure what to say. I should just say anything to her right? Let her know I'm not a threat. I open my mouth to speak, but I was not expecting to say what i said.

"Mine."

What the hell?? What made me say that??

I look at her, wondering if she even heard me. I don't think she had,as she has now lost consciousness.

"Hey. Hey please wake up" I say as i gently shake her. I hear Kip and my gammas approaching to find out about this girl, and I'm suddenly very aware she's naked. I don't like the idea of anyone seeing her naked. It angers me.

"Kip stop. Don't come closer" I say to him as i hold her in my arms,trying to shield her body from their view.

"Jax, what is it? Who's the girl?" Kip asks me.

"I, I think she's my mate" I say.

Oh damn is all i hear Kip say before i hear him tell the gammas to get back to their posts, also praising them for a job well done.

Yes, I need to remember to thank them tomorrow. If not for their quick thinking to call us and actions to follow the rouge, we wouldn't of made it in time to save this beautiful angel I'm holding on my arms.

I need to get her to the pack hospital right away for Dr. Gratiot to examine and treat her. She's already lost a lot of blood.

I'm sitting here in the waiting room and time is going by so slowly. How bad is she?? What's taking so long?? I need to be by her. I'm going crazy right now not seeing her.

Kip joined me in waiting. Not only is he my beta, but he's also my best friend. It means a lot to me that he chose to sit and wait with me, knowing I'm not the most patient person. We just sat there in silence.

Suddenly, Dr Gratiot came out to the lobby and both Kip and I jumped up to our feet.

"Well?" i ask impatiently.

Dr. Gratiot hold his hands up in surrender and calmly stated, "She's stable."

I let out a breath i didn't even know i was holding.

"However", he continued, "she is severely dehydrated, and suffering from extreme exhaustion. Whatever she's been through, its more than just the rouge attack."

"What do you mean?" I asked him. Curious to know what else could be wrong.

"Well we ran some blood test, and her creatine kinase levels are extremely high. Meaning that her muscles are very inflamed because she's severely over used them." he responded.

"Like running?" Kip asked.

"Yes" Dr Gratiot answered. "Like running for a very long distance"

I run a hand through my hair, trying to take everything in. I need to see her.

As if sensing my thoughts, Dr Gratiot said, "You can go see her if you'd like, Alpha. She's resting comfortably,and i have an IV for fluids going for her. Her wounds will heal as she gets more rest. All and all, she's a pretty healthy young lady."

Relief washed over me like a tidal wave. Now I need to find out why she was running and what or who she's running from. Answers I'll only get, once she wakes up.
