We are sitting in Jax's office, when Kip and Nick walk in. Jax has me sitting in his seat while he pulls up a chair next to me.
They are all looking at me ,waiting for me to start talking. I take a deep breath and decide to start from the beginning. I start by telling them all about Grayson, and how cruel he is. I tell them about the trackers and the consequences of disobedience. About the stalls, and what goes on there. To say they looked shocked , would be an understatement.
"So, on the night I left, Grayson held dinner party for a neighboring pack, to celebrate an alliance they had just formed. This pack is worse than Grayson..." I pause to take a breath. They are all intently looking at me, patiently waiting for me to continue.
"Anyways, part of the agreement of this alliance was an arranged marriaged with that packs alpha." I pause again and look at Jax. I can feel his anger coming off of him. His fists are balled to his side and his knuckles are white. He's doing everything he can to stay calm.
"Who was the marriage with?" Jax asked me, but I'm pretty sure he already knew the answer.
I looked him in his eyes when I answered him.
"Me."
His breathing started to pick up and his eyes flashed yellow. I could tell his wolf didn't like that answer and he had a murderous look in his eyes. Jax closed his eyes for a few seconds before he opened them again, and they were his gorgeous blue-green color again.
"So then, you left?" Kip asked me.
I nodded my head. "My brother Ben, he helped me escaped that night. He's the beta, so he knew when patrolling would start, and where they would be as we left."
" All the things a beta world know" Kip said with a smile.
" So now, I have five trackers out looking for me and Michael, the alpha from the other pack, had threatened Grayson that he's going attack if I'm not found in a week. His exact words were 'terminate'".
The room is quite. I can tell they are all processing what I've just told them.
"How do you know there are five trackers after you? And about the attack on the pack?" Nick asked after a minute.
"From my brother, Ben. We communicate through the classifieds. He stayed behind to watch Grayson and keep me updated on what's happening, so I can stay one step ahead of the trackers."
" That's an old war tactic." Nick said almost excitedly. " My grandpa taught us about that. You speak in code with your allies, that way you can plan an attack and not let anyone else know what the plan is."
"That's right. Only, Ben and I are using it to avoid capture."
" That's cool. I've never actually seen anyone ever use it before." Nick said.
Jax is still sitting there really quite. His mood is very serious. I'm almost afraid to look at him, I can't imaging what he's thinking right now. He's probably regretting trying to help me.
"Bailey?" Jax starts. I slowly turn to look at him. " I know I've asked you this before, and it's ok if you don't want to tell me. What pack are you from?"
I take a breath before I tell him."Red River".
"And the pack you were promised to?" Jax asked with concern.
"Summit Moon".
Nick sits forward in his chair."Summit Moon? As in Michael Lauer's pack?"
My eyes widened. Oh no, I didn't just make a mistake, did I? Nick seemed to know Michael.
"How do you know Michael?" I asked him.
The three of them are just sitting there staring at each other and then at me.It's like they are afraid to tell me how they know him. I'm starting to worry.
"Bailey," Jax started, "Michael Lauer is...well, He's an elder."
My eyes just got ten times bigger. He's an elder?? A freaking ELDER??!! Crap!! That makes him damn near untouchable. They all know him. I knew I shouldn't of said anything. I should of just kept my mouth shut. They wouldn't tell him that I'm here? Would they? I trusted Jax when he said he'd protect me, but Nick and Kip didn't promise anything. They could tell Michael where I'm at. I can't stay here anymore, I have to leave.
My heart sinks at that thought. I don't want to leave. I want to stay here, with Jax, but I can't. I can't put my feeling first.
As if sensing my panic, Jax cups my face and brings my eyes to meet his. "Hey, look at me Bailey. It's ok, your safe. Nobody is going to tell anyone you are here. Relax, honey." he says to me as he kisses my forehead.
With that one act, relief washes over me and I'm instantly calming down. What is it about Jax that does this to me?
"Bailey, I'm really sorry," Nick starts, "I didn't mean to scare you. It just complicates things. I promise, we aren't telling anyone your here."
"Yeah," Kip chimes in. "Your secret is safe with us"
I feel better with them saying that, they are right. Michel being an elder complicates everything. He had connections everywhere.
His reach would be father than Grayson's.
Jax looks at Kip and Nick and gives them a look. I'm not sure what that look is about, but they both get up and excuse themselves from the room, mumbling something about making plans and reaching out to their allies in case help would be needed.
After they shut the door, Jax kneels in front of me, taking both my hands in his.
"Bailey, I don't want you to worry. We are going to figure this out."
"Jax, there's one other thing I left out, but before I tell you that, I need to ask you something first"
"What is it?" He asks with concern.
"Are we mates?"
