Chapter 1
Alvina's Point of View “Do you want me to repeat myself, you w***e?” My nanny, Ruth, who was now the lady of my late parents mansion yelled at my face as soon as I finished my statement. “You can't tell me to do that, ma'am.” I made a comeback, shaking my head. “Why can't I? Do you have any choice to refuse? When I say you must do it, then you must!” She reminded me in annoyance. “It has been announced nationwide that Mr. Donaldo is dying. He needs a wife only for his sacrifice or whatnot. I can't be the victim!” I stood my ground even when I knew it was risky. “And do you think you are any better than him? You are only alive because I'm leaving you!” She sighed heavily. “You brat, you have to get married before the end of this week else, not only will I cut off Jordan's medical support, I will also have you sent over to the Donaldos mansion.” She informed me vividly and my jaw dropped. “Mrs. Ruth!” I called her name in shock and she faced me almost immediately. “It's Ma'am. Madam! Not Mrs. Ruth!” She barked at my face in anger. I rolled my eyes away from her and back at her again. “Jordan is innocent and has nothing to do with what we are discussing here. Keep him out of this matter.” I informed her seriously. “You still have the guts to command me. Do you think your parents are still alive or you have control over me like in the past?” She asked, raising an annoying brow. “I didn't command you, I'm begging and also trying to convince you.” I swallowed hard on nothing. “You have no right to make deals with me, brat. You are as good as nothing and must do exactly as I want, else Jordan will be off my list.” She said, staring at me intently. I knew Nanny Ruth. When she set her heart at it, she would make sure it was as she wanted. I didn't know how we got here but everything changed after the death of my parents. She showed her true colors and turned me into a maid in my own father's mansion. As for my brother, he was still young yet battling with a rare leukemia issue. He was all I had left and the old bait Ruth had to control my life. He was my responsibility and I wouldn't hesitate to protect him. “You know I already have a boyfriend, right? I mean a serious one.” I said after a brief pause between us. “Then get married.” She spilled bluntly. “We will. So, can you continue paying for my brother's hospital bills while we prepare for my wedding?” I questioned, raising an anxious brow. “That depends on how fast you do it, don't blame me.” She hissed, storming out of the living room and I exhaled heavily. This was my late father's mansion. This was once my castle where I had everything I ever wanted and was treated like a princess but everything turned upside down and now, I had to serve the nanny that once served me and fall under her threats because she knew our family secret like the back of her hand. After a stressful day at home, I went to the hospital to visit my brother and also check my health. Not only was I facing hell at home, my relationship with Richard could be described as a toxic one but I loved him and was willing to turn a blind eye to all his flaws. “Here for yourself?” Our family doctor, Richester, asked warmly as soon as he saw me in the hospital hallway. “No, for Jordan.” I shook my head. “He is right in his room.” He paused. “Alright, I will go my round and also focus on my morning patients.” He informed me sweetly and I nodded. “It's okay. When I'm done with him, I'll be coming to your office, is that okay?” I asked anxiously and he smiled. “Sure.” He went ahead to do his business while I walked into Jordan's hospital room. The sounds from the medical machines filtered in the air as I approached his bed. He seemed to be sleeping but his lashes fluttered as soon as he noticed me. “Sis…” his voice was low and compassionate as I sat beside him in the bed. “How are you feeling, Jboy.” I whispered. “Very good since you are here.” He forced out a smile which forced me to smile. “That's good. Keep staying strong alright? Everything will be fine as soon as we are done with your operation.” I assured him with a warm smile and he looked at me. “Sis, will I really be okay? I can't wait to play with you and be beside you.” He said sadly and tears slowly gathered around my eyelids. It was a little bit difficult to stay strong before my sad looking brother but I rein them in. “Trust Uncle Richester, alright? Everything will be fine.” I assured him again but this time, nodding my head. “Sis, I…” He attempted to speak when I stopped him. “Stop assuming or thinking about anything. Just take a rest.” I urged him warmly and he nodded, lying back on the bed. “Are you leaving?” He asked, raising an anxious brow and looking sad. “I'll be back one of these days…” I paused and faced him. “With good news.” Without another word, I left his hospital room with a smile. I sat across from Richester as he continuously looked at my file in his computer over and over again, until he sighed and rested in his seat. “You keep worrying about your brother when you are also at risk, Alvina.” Richester stated. “I can cope. I will not push through with my surgery until Jordan gets better.” I said firmly. “Your health is deteriorating day by day, and your white blood cells are dying. If you keep delaying the process, not only will you endanger your life and continue contracting dangerous diseases, you might lose your life.” He warned me seriously and I closed my eyes briefly. “My life is not important, doctor. At least, until Jordan is okay. I don't care if I die but I need to get married and protect Jordan. My operation can wait.” I rambled at his face seriously, looking sad. “But…” He began but was interrupted by the knock on his door and without another word, it pulled open. “Richard?” I was so shocked when I saw my boyfriend. What was he doing here? “My goodness, you are here.” He haven a sigh of relief and I blushed. “Have you been looking for me?” I asked shyly. “Of course.” He brushed my hand away and walked close to the doctor. “Are you ready? Let's do it now.” He said hastily to the doctor, with anxiety lancing in his eyes. “Where is our prospect donor?” Richester asked him. “She.” Richard quickly grabbed my arm and immediately, I knew what he intended to do again but he promised to stop. “What's going on?” I asked, provoked. “She is the donor.” He faced me, looking serious. “You must donate some blood to Nora, she's dying.” He urged me in disgust and my jaw dropped. “What?” I paused and backed away from him. “What about me? I'm dying, Richard!” I spilled bluntly in anger. He faced me, his face changed and I thought he wanted to make a different decision but he grabbed my arm again, his eyes pervading contempt. “I don't care. You must save Nora.” He spat at my face seriously and I remained stunned.
