Chapter Twenty-One In hollow faces, I saw myself, the ghost of my mistakes. I peeked out of the armory, looking back into the hall. No movement, no sound. My friends from earlier must have gone to the loading dock, as they discussed. I moved back out to continue my search. There were two other rooms along the opposite side of the hall and I quickly pivoted into the first. Narrow and tall, with shelving and cleaning products stacked to the ceiling on one side. A few plastic ties and a dingy old mattress on the opposite side set alarm bells ringing in my head. Someone’s been kept here. And recently.
