It was unusual for the elders to want to see kids. Even though I was the chief's daughter, since I was only ten and therefore didn't have to interact with them much. It was weird that they summoned us, there was a monster who had just attacked a village not that far from here, along with it was late at night. I looked at my dad, who usually is smiles and chats merrily with everyone. Tonight he has a somber and worried expression. It makes him look a lot older.
"Dad, why do the elders want to see us?" I instantly regretted it as my dads worried expression turned to one of pure sorrow.
"Honey..." He started but the conversation was cut short since we arrived at the elders hut. They were outside waiting for us.
"Come you two we have much to discuss." an older woman said.
"Alright Deb" My dad replied, ushering me inside.
Once we were inside the hut I saw Deb go to a table. She sat down in a chair and motioned for us to sit in two vacant ones. After we sat the man at the head of the table started to speak.
"Lana there is no easy way to say this so I am going to jump in. As you know there has been a monster attacking. We have reason to believe that it is looking for you."
"Wh- what? Why would it want me?" I asked
"Unfortunately, the creator of this monster has been cursed. The prophecy states that the first born female of this village is supposed to be able to give him the ability to die, or she can defeat him and save herself. It is also told that this woman is to be born to this world and village but this is not her destined home." The man said.
"Sweetie, we watch your interactions with the other kids, you don't mingle with them. you are more interested in other things." Deb said. I mean she's not wrong. I don't get along with other kids my age. I just figured it was because I was the chief's daughter, but I do feel out of place.
they must have realized they struck a chord with me. "It is because you are the legendary girl. You don't feel like you belong here because you weren't meant to stay here." The guy at the head of the table continues. "So we called you here to send you to the world you are meant to be."
"Daddy did you know..." I looked at my father. He is barely holding it together and my question sent him over the edge.
"I'm so sorry baby girl. We did everything to keep you here for as long as possible. We love you so much." He hugs me. "I promise you will do great."
A different woman cleared her throat. "Hun, we have prepared a necklace for you, it is a special necklace that will strengthen your ice powers, it will protect you."
Looking at the necklace it was a giant ice crystal, it was ice blue with glints of the colors of the rainbow when the hut lighting caught it just right. It was breath taking. As I nodded looking at her, she motioned for me to turn around so she could place the necklace securely on my neck. After it was fastened onto my neck, she squeezed my shoulders. " It is time, we need to start the transport spell soon. The monster is getting closer by the second."
"Is my family going to come with?" I asked her, semi fearing the answer. My face fell as she shook her head no. I looked at my dad, who had tears falling down his cheeks.
"Don't worry baby girl, we will always be with you. I promise." He says. I nod as a lump starts to form in my throat.
"Come child." The old woman says, ushering me to a different room. Once we are in this room I am put into the center of a circle formed by the elders. There are six all together, two women, Deb and the woman who put on my necklace, and four males, the one at the head of the table, who had a wisdom twinkle in his eye, a man who walked with a cane, his knuckles are while holding onto the cane. Then there is a man that has long gray hair and two different colored eyes, lastly, my grandpa. He never really visited, my dad always said it was because it was hard to get out of the elders work. I honestly thought that he was mad that I was a girl, but the look in his eye right now tells me I was wrong. Then the un expected happens, my grandpa comes up to me and hugs me.
"I am so sorry my dear, I thought that staying away from you would lessen the pain of sending you away, but I now know that it was a mistake. I will always be watching over you. I need you to stand in the middle of all of us. Whatever happens from this moment foreword, trust your senses, they will never steer you wrong."
After they all say words of encouragement they all entwine hands and start chanting. Then I am surrounded in a bubble and start floating up. as I am almost out of ear shot, I see the village messenger frantically yelling that the monster is attacking. I float higher and higher, watching everyone in my village fight and lose against this monster. Unable to help, I hug my knees to my chest, and cry for the simple life I lived, for all of the lives that this monster's creator had destroyed. In that moment I vowed to defeat this master. I don't know when but I will end him and his reign of fear. With that vow, I cry myself to sleep, floating in the bubble.
