Leila Black

Chapter 4:

The weekend seemed to fly by faster after that and soon I was packing to leave back for the city as I still had school. As I pack the ladies sit in my room talking with me suddenly I get super hot and start to not feel good. I grab the wall to my closet as I am coming out of it and hold my head, I curse and look at my phone “s*it” I grumble Alaia rushes over to me and grabs me “Le…..holy cow Leila you’re burning up” she says looking at my arm I groan “my heat” I grumble being unmarked meant I still went into heat and of course it had to hit me now of all days. Alaia gasps and Taylor quickly runs to the bathroom and starts me a cold bath Alaia has Morgan get Xander, Matt, and Kade to get some ice to help keep the fever down they help me into the bath I lean on the edge of it in so much pain it hurt to sit I cry holding my stomach “it hurts” I cry Alaia strokes my head as she puts my hair up in a bun. “Shh it’s ok just breathe Leila,” Alaia says in a hushed tone. The guys rush in and she has them put some ice in the tub I groan and grab the edges ready to break it in half Xander looks at me worried “what can we do” he asks he has been through this with me before and honestly it stopped bothering him years ago I growl “get the f*ck out!!” he growls back but Alaia puts her hand on his arm “babe please let her have her space she is in pain with no mate to help relieve it” she says he sighs and nods they all leave but Alaia.

I sit there for what felt like hours in pain cursing and grumbling “f*cken moon goddess hates me” Alaia sighs, “don’t say that” ''why not!” I look at her “why not? Because she obviously does, where is my mate Alaia? Why don’t I have one yet?” I have tears brimming my eyes. I have been waiting for my mate since my wolf appeared on my 18th birthday. I have been looking high and low for him that was 3 ½ years ago and I can sense Serena is getting very upset not having our mate with us. “He is out there sweetie looking for you and one day you guys will finally meet trust me” she says softly and rubs my back with a cold rag. I cry, “I bury myself into my school work to avoid you all” I say softly wiping my eyes. “Seeing you all so happy with your mates and families…...it kills me and makes me wish I had that happiness.” Alaia sighs unable to respond she didn’t fully understand the hurt I felt yes she was rejected by Lex but just as she fell apart Xander was there to piece her back together but me……I had no one I was all alone in this fight I had no one to help me through this heat and it killed me. After hours of burning up and pain I soon fall asleep in the tub Alaia mindlinks Xander to help carry me back to bed.

I spent the week at the Packhouse in my room doing homework. I always took time off of school during my heat and my teachers allowed it, never asking as I never fell behind on work. The ladies would visit me from time to time when available to help me out and bring me food as being an unmated female and in heat it wasn’t safe for me to walk around the Packhouse or ground aimlessly as it could cause trouble with some of the male wolves. A knock comes onto my door as I am doing some work with a cold rag around my neck “come in” I say softly expecting one of the ladies but Xander walks in I look at him “Xan? Why are you here, you sure you're ok with this?” I ask he laughs and sits a tray of food and Gatorade on my bed stand “Leila this isn’t the first time I have been through heat with you or the other women I am fine besides I have a mate” at the word mate I look away and back to my book he sighs “sorry that was dumb of me to say” he sits beside me and I put my book down and just hugged his chest tight letting tears fall. “Why does she hate me Xander, why can’t I have a mate?” He sighs “you know before I found Alaia I thought the same thing I felt like the moon goddess herself was punishing me but then I found Alaia and everything was complete I never felt happier it is just about being patient Leila and I know you have been waiting and saving yourself for him but you never know he could show up at a time you most need him” he softly says not letting go of me he was by far the best big brother any girl could ask for.

The week seemed to pass by quickly. I don’t remember much as I was either sleeping or doing homework but on the weekend I knew it was ok for me to come out. I woke early in the morning and went for a run as my wolf, letting her stretch her legs. Serena was a huge beautiful black and grey wolf with one green and one blue eye complimenting my blue eyes with some green inside them. Everyone always said I best embodied my mother…….my birth mother whomever she may be but they said that if they were to guess of what she looked like it would be like me, tall I reach about 5’ 10”,  not  too skinny but I have built muscle over the years of training, I had Jet black hair and blue eyes with green on the inner ring of my eyes. My skin was a beautiful tan that helped even in winter as I never looked pale but once summer hit you would swear I was a goddess or something as my skin was a beautiful golden color. I didn’t look anything like my adopted family of course as I had no features to make people even ask if I was biological as I took on the features of my birth parents….once again whomever they were.

Feeling Serena run again felt great! Her strong legs had been begging to get a chance to run in the forest again and not worry about being seen her heart pounding with everything step and every leap she took. She bounded over fallen trees, dug her claws into the damp soil and took in the fresh air flowing through her thick fur. She stopped in a clearing as we heard a noise around us she looked around observing her surroundings as the fur on the back of her neck stood at attention. Suddenly in front of us was a black wolf she let a sigh of relief “Xander you f*cker you scared us” I say in the mindlink he chuckles “sorry sis saw you went on a run and Alastair wanted to join you guys he hasn’t been out in a while” “I understand that Serena has been tearing at a chance to run around for a while”  he chuckles and we ended up running for what felt like hours before we headed to the Packhouse. As we approach we shift and he throws me some sweats and a white t-shirt as he slips some basketball shorts on and I smile and dress “thanks for the run Xan it was nice having someone with me” he nods smiling “anytime sis” he hugs me and we head inside for breakfast.

For breakfast Mrs. Dyson makes Alaia’s favorite strawberry and cream pancakes with bacon eggs and hashbrowns oh boy was I excited. I sit beside Matt and Taylor and we all dig in. I was starving. I hadn’t eaten in days as I had been distracted with my homework. As we eat conversation around the table starts up, “so Lelia1” Rachel starts “you are Alpha Xander’s sister?” I nod as I bite into a piece of bacon “mhm….well I am his adopted sister but we act as if we were blood” I smile and look at her she nods, “where are your real parents?” I sit back looking at her “ummm.,...my real parents are here on pack grounds if your asking about the people whom gave birth to me they are not my parents as they abandoned me when I was just 1” I take a sip of orange juice, “the people who gave me life are gone no one knows who or where they are not that I care because they didn’t want me why should I want them?” I say not skipping a beat, if she was gonna be nosey and talk like that I was gonna tell her what is what she puts her hands up in surrender, “I am sorry just trying to get to know you” I nod “that’s ok but never refer to them as my real parents Katherine and Xavier are my real parents as far as I am concerned.”

After breakfast I started packing as I really did need to go home. This time I had a couple tests coming up and I couldn’t miss them they were worth too much. I visit my parents for a bit before I leave the pack grounds and head back into the city for my apartment. My apartment is located on the far side of town closer to the woods in case I need to shift for whatever reason it was a good place to hide. The months flew by in a blur and soon the end of the school year came and I was graduating medical school and I was moving back to the Packhouse for good. The day before graduation the guys and ladies helped pack my things up and move it all back but I wanted to stay one last night at the apartment before I left as many memories were made here. The day of my graduation had come and gone. It wasn’t a normal ceremony as only a few of us had been selected to graduate early so it was small and nice my family and a few pack members were there and I didn’t mind. Afterwards I stayed behind to talk to some friends and teachers as everyone headed home. Driving home felt nice. It was quiet. I had soft music playing and humming along when I noticed something off. A car was speeding towards me but in the wrong lane I tried to get out of the way but it was too late. A huge truck had hit me on my side as I had tried getting out of the way and my car flipped at least 5 times before landing on the roof of the car I groaned as a pain shot in my arm and side I knew I had broken an arm and probably fractured a rib or two. People started swarming my car trying to get me out but I was in a mindlink with Xander as I was only 10 minutes from pack grounds. “Xander I….ahh..” “Leila what’s going on what’s wrong?” he asks sensing my pain “I….I got hit help I think my arm is broke and I need out of here before anything starts healing hurry people are surrounding my car” “hold on Leila we are on our way” and with that the mindlink cut off I heard people talking to me asking if I was ok and others screaming to call the cops and an ambulance I worried that Serena would start healing me so I begged her to try and keep me from healing until Xander got to us.

By the time Xander, Matt, and Kade pulled up I had been pulled out of my car and my injuries assessed I was sitting on the back of an ambulance as the other driver was being assessed he reeked of alcohol. Xander pushes past an officer exclaiming he was my brother and ran up to me hugging me tight I wince “ow! Xander '' he pulls away and looks at me then growls turning towards the other driver. I grab his arm and start crying “please just take me home” I whisper he nods and helps me up. I cry out in pain. I had severely fractured my ankle. He picks me up and carries me to the SUV that Matt and Kade were standing by and no one asked anything as Xander carries me away as I had already given my side of the story and all my information to the officers. I look down at my torn and bloody gown I sigh “I tried to get out of the way” I whisper as Xander pulls glass out of my hair and Kade drives with Matt upfront “I know but it would probably have been better hitting him head on you flipped Leila 5 times what if something worse happened like you died” he says pain in his voice I look at him “if he hit me head on at the speed we both were going I would have died Xan that's why I turned my car” he nods and hugs me softly “I am just glad your ok sis Dr. Bennett is waiting for when we get home to look you over” I nod and lean back everything hurt like a mother f*cker and I just wanted to lay in bed at this point.

Getting home I was surrounded by everyone and my parents but Xander barked for them to back off and give me space which even made Serena whimper back a little I laugh softly and wince, “don’t be so harsh Xan” I whisper in pain I was sure at least 2 ribs were cracked if not broken. Xan takes me to the pack doctor with Alaia hot on his tail. As soon as he lays me down she walks over, looking at me. She reaches out I shake my head taking her hand, “don’t sis” I smile “I will be fine Serena will heal me with time I just need some rest” I whisper she nods and hugs me softly then Dr. Bennett walks in, sending them out to wait while she assesses me. “Alright Leila you have 3 cracked ribs, a fractured ankle, your arm is badly broken, and you have a concussion but all in all that’s good considering you could have been killed” she says offering me a smile. I nod smiling “how long will it take for all this to heal?” I ask she looks at me “I would give it about a week if not two to fully heal don’t do anything to strenuous I will tell the alpha to not put you into training until he gets the ok from me and I know this will be hard to hear but no shifting either” Serena groans hearing that I sigh “you just broke my wolfs heart doc” I laugh softly she chuckles “I know and tell her I am sorry but it will not help with healing if you are shifting so until you get cleared from me no training or shifting got it?” She lifts an eyebrow, I nod smiling” yes ma’am” she smiles and gets Xander who carries me to my room and lays me down.

As soon as my head hits my pillow my eyes begin to fall shut I could hear my parent’s voices in my room as I start to fall asleep soon I enter dreamland. I must have been asleep for hours because I wake up to my stomach growling for food. I hadn’t eaten anything that day as I was so excited for the graduation I didn’t get anything to eat before and missed the party because well….the accident. As if reading my mind Xan walks in with a tray loaded with food I smile and sit up slowly still in a bit of pain. “Were you reading my mind?” I laugh as he sits the tray down and helps me sit up putting pillows behind my back, “no I just know you sis you probably didn’t eat anything today” I nod and grin at him “thanks for your help Xander really I don’t know what would have happened if you weren’t there to help” I whisper he sits and hugs me “just try to be more careful sis” he chuckles I nod and smile “I will promise.” he nods and looks at me “how are you feeling?” I shrug “my head is pounding, my whole body hurts but I am starting to heal Serena is trying to speed up the process but she is tired” he nods “that is expected, if you need anything link someone and we will help you out but don’t try getting out of bed alone until your ankle heals got it” I laugh and nod “yes sit Mr. Alpha” he rolls his eyes and laughs as he leaves.

I am pretty much kept in my room until I heal which gives me a ton of time to do homework that I soon finish it all and grow bored I link Alaia “hey what are you doing I am bored and want to do something I am tired of being cooped up in my room” I hear her laugh and walk into my room with the other ladies and some wine “thought you would never ask” she holds the bottle up I grin “oh sis your the best” I sit on the edge of my bed and we turn on my TV and watch movies and drink some wine. We end up watching the entire Twilight movies. 3 hours later we finish and it is close to lunch Taylor lays back and groans “I don’t understand why she chose the vampire over the wolf I mean seriously we are way cooler than vampires” I laugh softly and finish my wine “eh I think Edward is pretty dashing he is really sweet it is Bella I don’t like she is too clingy and whiny but you never know unless you have experienced it I mean Henry is with Aries who is part vampire so” I look at her she shrugs “very true, what would you do if your mate was a vampire?” I smile “I will love him as you all love the guys my mate will be a perfect fit for me and if the moon goddess wants me with a vampire then so be it I am just ready to finally meet him” I say smiling thinking of my mate out there somewhere looking for me.

Unknown POV:

I don’t know why but I feel such a pull to California, great! the warmest state I can think of (besides Florida) and I feel a pull there. I pack my bags and leave in the middle of the night so my family doesn’t expect a thing. I drive through the night I live in Washington state so it was a long drive but I didn’t mind the drive since I don’t really need sleep. After about a day and a half I hit the northern part of California and got a hotel. The pull has felt stronger since crossing into California but I still don’t know why hopefully I find out soon.
