Part One: Rise of the Alpha The Change One: Teagan Shit is all I can think as I’m at the playground with my son. I got scared and ran over to him, hearing his screams of pain. When I get to his side there is already a group of parents and children surrounding him. To my horror I watch as his bones are breaking by themselves. I pick him up and start to race for my car. I have seen this before and I know our time here in Paradise Falls has come to an end. As I’m putting my son into the backseat his best friend runs up. “Miss Colby is Ryan…….” He stops in mid-sentence as he sees Ryan in his wolf form. I slam the door shut and run to the driver’s door, getting in. I didn’t’ even look at his friend. I just take off. I take off doing the speed limit even though I wanted to get away from this town as fast as possible and never look back. I can’t say the town was bad. We were here for five quiet years. I hear my son in the backseat crying. I look back at him. He just turned twelve today. I was hoping against hope that his human side would be stronger than his wolf side. “It’s okay Ryan. Everything will be okay. I just need to figure out what to do now.” I have ‘go bags’ for both of us in the trunk. I am always prepared just in case his father finds us. He came close after I had given birth to Ryan. His men found me at the hospital. I had a stupid moment and used my real name and social when giving my information. That is the only way they could have tracked me. I have since learned my lesson. I have a wallet filled with ID’s, matching social security cards, and birth certificates. I haven’t seen anyone else since then, but I make sure to change it up every couple of years. When we got to Paradise Falls, I had fallen in love with the quiet little town by the seaside. No one ever came here. There was no influx of vacationers during the summertime. Just a quiet little town out by the seaside that others had forgotten about. Now that will change. I’m sure that the police and TV stations in the next town have been called because they saw a boy turning into a wolf. I slam my hand down on the steering wheel. “Damnit” I look at my watch and notice that it is about one in the afternoon. Ryan had changed back into his human form about an hour ago but didn’t wake up. I had pulled into a rest stop and wake him up to put some clothes on. That just all I needed right now is someone to see a naked boy in the back of my car and call the cops on me. “Mom come on let me sleep. I’m so tired.” He had said when I had tapped him on his shoulder. “Ryan, wake up and put this on and then you can go back to sleep.” He bitched and complained the whole time but did as I told him to. Then curled back up in the seat and was right back out. Now my stomach is growling, and I know as soon as he wakes up, he will be hungry also. I pull into one of the fast-food places along the highway. Sighing, I don’t like to eat this nasty food. It’s not good for you and contains additives that the body is not made to digest. I know my son absolutely loves it, but all kids do. I order enough to feed a small army. Reese used to eat a lot and I mean a lot of food. It must have to do with the morphing at least that’s what I assume. I move up to the window and pay. Move to the next window and wait in line for our food. I start to hear Ryan making noises, so I know he is starting to wake up. Looking in my wallet I pull out the old ID, social, and birth certificate. I will have to get new ones out of my bag when I get a chance. I make it to the window and take our bags and drinks from the lady. “Thank you” She has a cheery smile on her face. “Have a great day.” I wanted to throat punch her. Here my world is falling apart, and she has the balls to be happy. As I leave the drive through, I stop at the trash can and throw away our old life. I pull into a parking space out of the way so there is no one around us. Well time for a new life. I just don’t know where to go with the new issues. The smell of the food must have woken Ryan up. I had just pulled out of the parking lot when he sat up and looked at me. I smile at him. “Hey kid how are you feeling, okay?” He looks at me with tears in his eyes. “It happened didn’t it.” I sigh nodding my head. I have never kept anything away from my son. I told him about his father Reese and how we met in in college. I start to get lost in my memories once more. We had fallen madly in love with each other. I was so happy. At the end of our last year in college, he actually got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes. The day before our wedding he told me that he had something important to tell me and arranged a dinner for us in a fancy restaurant. I had gotten dressed up in my nicest outfit and made my way there. When I got out of my car in the parking lot, I felt someone at my back. When I went to turn a piece of cloth was put over my mouth and nose. Then all I knew was darkness. When I woke up, I was in a cell that was pungent with the smell of excrement. I had run to the door and started banging on it. “Let me out. Let me out.” I had screamed it until my throat was raw and I couldn’t talk anymore. These huge scary looking men would walk by smiling and looking sinisterly at me. I was scared shitless. I curled myself up in a ball and hid in the corner as best as I could. I don’t know how long I was there, but they tried feeding me about six times. I slept most of the time I was in there. Crying waiting for someone to find me. Reese must know something happened to me. We were supposed to meet when I was taken. The cops must be searching for me, right? I remember being woken up by loud noises, it sounded like a war was going on. I open my eyes to a sight that makes me think I’m stuck in a nightmare. I watch a guard stops in front of my cell, he is looking down the hallway, so I have a side view of him changing, morphing into something else. I close my eyes opening them again thinking that I’m seeing things. This man, I can hear his bones breaking. His body rearranging into something else. I look closer as he falls on the floor standing on four paws as fur grows all over his body. Holy s**t, I scream, and the wolf looks at me with glowing green eyes. I must have passed out. I woke up to something wet on my face. I opened my eyes to see a large silver wolf with glowing blue eyes licking my face. I quickly sit up scooting back. I watched in horror as this huge wolf morphs into Reese. I shake my head coming back to the present, hearing my son. “Mom, tell me please.” I turn and look at him handing him a bag of food. “Here eat. You need to build your strength up.” I see his eyes fill and spill over down his face. “What are we going to do now?” I smile a small smile at him. “I don’t know son. I really don’t know.” He starts eating his food looking like he is in deep thought. I start to nibble on a hamburger. Even though I’m not hungry anymore. I’m making myself eat. We finished our meal and put all of the wrappers in the bag to throw away. “Okay what way should we go? It’s your turn to pick.” I look at him through the rear-view mirror. He looks at me chewing on his bottom lip. “The Montana Rocky’s” I look at him surprised by what he has said. “Why do you want to go there?” He looks me straight in the eye. “Astro says we need to go there so I can learn about being a wolf.”
