Kathy Kwuinn:Light Heavy with Dark
Kathy Kwuinn:Light Heavy with Dark
Opposites. Every corner. Happiness and sadness. Death and Life. And Light and Dark. Would you imagine how chaotic the world would be with them all matched together? What if I, Kathy Kwuinn, only 14 years old, told you it's true? Would you believe me? But it is true. I’m the queen of Light, and my friend is the ruler of Darkness.
Chapter One
I rushed to my rusty and dim school, gripping tight on my open-zipped, blue backpack. Kids my age were packed In every corner, the tall and short, the rude and the sweet. My mouth dropped as I saw the mansion of an academy it was. This was my first year here! Everyone walked up to the grand entrance, chit-chatting and laughing cheerfully. The sun shone down, loving the beautiful, bright sky! The white, small clouds floated around high in the air. It was an awning sight. “Get through, don't die.” I thought.
‘Get through, don't die, Kathy. You're strong.’ My brown-haired mom once said. She was that one mom that knew you well - very well and could tell when something was wrong, and then shove you with feasts and make you smile until your cheeks were tired. She had a loving heart that would love more than the stars. She had a beautiful soul that was prettier than any others. And she had the best talent for cooking. “Love you, mom!” I squealed when I was only 4 years old. She ruffled my hair affectionately And kissed my forehead. She always gave me 'The Honest Look.' When she looked you in the eyes, gently, of course, you could tell her love was up to the moon and back. “I love you more!”
She was just like the gorgeous earth.
I laughed. “How much?” “Up to the moon and back!” She answered.
But, then…she died.
Was the earth gorgeous without her? No. It was now a bloody life full of blood, sweat, and tears for me. But now, I have my apartment, at least. I started cooking. Just like my mom would do…And I used the egg recipe she made for me.
I met up with my roommate and best friend, Oliana. Oliana-Dloodler and sketcher, lean, awkward and friendly, blonde, soft hair, slight sweet tooth, and the top student in Spanish and Algebra, treasures her necklace that she made herself. She has dark blue eyes.“Oliana! Hey! Want some eggs? They're mom's recipe.~” And, I know what you are thinking... I should have said “my mom's recipe,” since she's my best friend and not a sibling. But..we kind of are siblings. I've known her since I was practically in stinky diapers! So..Yeah..We both think of each other as siblings. And sometimes..over exaggerate it and make it seem like it's true to strangers. “Sure, sis!” Oliana replied excitedly. It's too obvious… “Oh- Sorry, I meant Kathy.” “No, it's fine.” I would always say, 'I love you, sis.'
A bit later, Oliana's shadow darkened. “Hey, you okay?” I asked softly. It went blacker. She started grinning evilly. “Yeah, I'm fine. But..I'm just bored.” Oliana giggled maniacally. “Wanna play a game?...”
Chapter Two
Alright. This had to be the worst life! My mom was dead, my friend was turning into a maniac, and I lived in a crazy universe! “What..what do you mean?” Responded me, confused. I raised an eyebrow, my entire face to head pale, surrounded by my wavy, brown hair with black and blonde streaks. My clear lake, bright, sparkling green eyes blinked. This couldn't be happening! She was my little sister to me, I have known her since childhood, She was a best friend to me, and she could be turning on me! This was, no- is crazy, I couldn't process anything. I had to think and use my head. Make a smart move. Please tell me I’m dreaming…I had to accept and wake up from this dream. “I just want a hug, Kathy…” Teased Oliana mockingly.
Please, Mom, come back to life, don't be a ghost, save me!
Chapter Three
The clawing, grabbing monster of Oliana threw herself to me and aimed her ugly fangs at her, completely transformed from her original, pretty appearance. “You knew the world was evil...And yet you were still stupid enough to make a friend?” Offered Oliana. She was right. But… “And I took a risk and spent my trust and you, you broke it! Now I'm broken!”
Oliana was as sweet as honey, like a big batch of cookies, a perfect treat. Now the only treat she was was a heartless, bittersweet traitor of a sour patch kid. “I am...The girl of
I looked around. The bed I slept in was hard as ice, and even that was better than my apartment bed! …I saw masks and a coma…And a corpse.
Chapter Four
Oliana started screaming suddenly, pridefully. She jumped at me. Before I knew it, it was pitch black. I was…dead? No- I fluttered my eyes open, groggily and sore. My wrist was killing me and my arms were a mummy of bandages. I was in a mysterious place. There was loud beeping and ringing.
“Who are you people?!” I Screamed, looking at the mysterious nurses. A boy with a messy ginger-red hairstyle and a tanned, sun-kissed face approached me, taking off his mask! He looked to be about 15. I caught my breath. “I’m Gregory. You're an experiment here. But I’m also your friend.” He finished, calm and quiet.
My mind was filled overflowing with questions. “What did you do to that guy?!” “He's fine. You’ll understand, but you need to stay here until we understand why you trespassed.”
Trespassed? I woke up here.
A similar-looking guy came to me and grabbed my sweaty palm, practically dragging me.
"I'm Zack, Gregory's brother, and you will answer my questions!" Zack demanded, throwing me into a cold, thin, sturdy, and tidy dungeon. He muttered a muffled mutter I never thought I would hear; 'Better not be an alive person.'
He was reborn?!
Suddenly, the window. I saw a figure out the window, getting suffocated in a painful mouse-rat creature's arms! I realized it was Oliana.
"I need to get out there!" I yelled on the verge of crying. Zack held me back, and I saw it squeeze her to death. I started grievingly. "This is so brief!"
I stomped on Zack's foot and raced, dashed against time, outside.
Chapter Five
As I burst through the door, the scene before me was one of pure chaos. Oliana was lying lifeless on the ground, her once bright and lively eyes now dull and empty. The creature that had attacked her was nowhere to be seen. Anguish pierced through me like a knife, and I fell to my knees beside her, tears streaming down my face.
Zack stood behind me, his expression a mixture of anger and sorrow. "You shouldn't have come out," he murmured. "This was the consequence of your reckless actions."
I looked up at him, my vision blurred by tears. "What is happening? What have you done to us?"
Zack hesitated for a moment before speaking. "We are part of a larger experiment. The world you knew, the people you trusted, everything was orchestrated. You and Oliana were chosen, unknowingly, to be part of this project."
I struggled to comprehend his words. "Chosen? For what?"
Zack helped me to my feet and guided me back inside. "I'll explain everything, but you have to trust me. Our lives are in danger, and we need to find a way to escape from this place."
As we walked through the sterile hallways, Zack recounted a story that seemed more like a twisted science fiction plot than reality. I listened, my mind reeling with every revelation. The truth was more horrifying than anything I could have imagined.
Chapter Six
Zack led me to a room filled with monitors and equipment. "This is where they observe us," he explained, pointing to the screens displaying various locations within the facility. "We are subjects in an experiment to test the human response to extreme emotional stimuli. They wanted to see how we would react to loss, betrayal, and fear."
I felt sick to my stomach. "But why us? What did we do to deserve this?"
Zack shook his head. "It's not about what we've done. It's about what they want to learn. Our lives were manipulated, our emotions toyed with, all for the sake of their research."
As Zack continued to unravel the sinister web of deceit that had ensnared us, I felt a growing sense of desperation. The world I thought I knew had crumbled, and I was left adrift in a sea of uncertainty.
Chapter Seven
We spent days planning our escape, carefully avoiding the watchful eyes of our captors. Zack's knowledge of the facility and its security systems proved invaluable as we navigated through the labyrinthine corridors.
Finally, the day of our escape arrived. We made a break for freedom, racing through the facility with adrenaline-fueled determination. The alarms blared, and we could hear the shouts of our pursuers echoing behind us.
As we burst through the final door, blinding sunlight greeted us. We were free, but the price we had paid for that freedom was steep. Our innocence, our trust, and our very identities had been shattered by the cruel hand of darkness.
Chapter Eight
Once we were outside, the harsh reality of our situation sank in. We were fugitives, on the run from the organization that had manipulated and experimented on us. We had no one to turn to, no place to call home.
Zack and I found refuge in a small, abandoned cabin deep in the woods. It was far from civilization, hidden from prying eyes. We decided to lay low for a while, regroup, and come up with a plan.
As days turned into weeks, our bond grew stronger. We relied on each other for support and understanding, having both experienced the trauma of betrayal and loss. Together, we began to piece together the puzzle of our past and the sinister organization that had controlled our lives.
Through our research, we discovered that the organization, known as the Institute of Shadows, had been operating in secret for years. Their experiments were aimed at harnessing the power of light and dark, using unsuspecting individuals as their subjects.
We also learned that Oliana's transformation into a monster was not her choice. The Institute had implanted a device in her brain that manipulated her emotions and transformed her into a vessel of darkness. It was a chilling realization, and anger burned within me.
Determined to free Oliana from the clutches of the Institute, we devised a plan to infiltrate their headquarters. We knew it would be dangerous, but we were willing to risk everything to save our friend and put an end to the organization's sinister experiments.
Chapter Nine
Disguised as low-level employees, we managed to gain access to the Institute's heavily guarded headquarters. The place was a labyrinth of winding corridors and high-tech security systems. We navigated through the complex, avoiding guards and surveillance cameras.
Finally, we reached the heart of the facility, the laboratory where the experiments were conducted. Rows of glass chambers lined the room, each containing a subject trapped in a state of perpetual sleep.
In one of the chambers, we found Oliana, pale and motionless. Her transformation into darkness had taken a toll on her physical and mental well-being. Without hesitation, we broke her free from the chamber and carried her to safety.
But our escape was short-lived. The alarms blared, and guards swarmed the area. It was a race against time as we fought our way through the facility, using our newfound powers of light and darkness to defend ourselves.
Amidst the chaos, I discovered the true extent of my abilities as the queen of Light. I radiated a blinding brightness, casting away the darkness that threatened to consume me. Zack, too, embraced his role as the ruler of Darkness, using shadows to his advantage.
Together, we unleashed a power that the Institute never expected. With each step, we grew stronger and more determined to expose their evil deeds to the world.
Chapter Ten
Our battle against the Institute raged on, but we were no longer alone. The subjects we had freed from their chambers, individuals who had suffered as we did, joined our cause. We formed a resistance, united in our purpose to bring down the organization and put an end to their reign of darkness.
With the combined strength of our powers, we infiltrated the core of the Institute, coming face to face with its leader, Dr. Victor Roark. He was a man consumed by his thirst for power, willing to sacrifice anyone and anything for his twisted experiments.
In our final confrontation, Dr. Roark unleashed his powers, combining light and darkness in an attempt to defeat us. But we were prepared. We fought with all our might, pushing ourselves to the limit.
In the end, our determination and unity triumphed over his evil. Dr. Roark was defeated, and the Institute of Shadows crumbled. The truth behind its operations was exposed to the world, and justice was served.
Life started to return to a semblance of normalcy. Oliana, freed from the darkness that had consumed her, slowly recovered, supported by the love and care of her newfound family. And I, Kathy Kwuinn, continued to embrace my role as the queen of Light, using my powers to inspire hope and bring positivity to a world that had seen too much darkness.
Though scars remained, we had overcome the trials that the Institute had subjected us to. We had emerged stronger, both individually and as a collective.
In the end, the power of Light prevailed over the darkness, proving that even in the face of unimaginable adversity, there is always hope. We learned that true strength lies not in the absence of darkness, but in our ability to rise above it and shine our light.
Chapter Eleven
I was laughing. The fact I got Oliana back was so much!.. I decided to playfully annoy Zack.
"I'm gonna keep following ya!" I spilled out. "No, you aren't, go away." Zack greeted. "No thanks." "Leave me alone, Kathy." Announced Zack. "Nah, I think I'll just keep following you." Suddenly he stopped walking and turned around, flames bursting out of his hands angrily. I could tell he felt guilty as if it was uncontrollable. "You are just like my dad before he killed himself." Finished Zack, gruffly, walking away. I was just on the wooden and dusty floor.
Zack's words hit me like a punch to the gut. I couldn't believe what I had just heard. The pain in his eyes, and the raw vulnerability in his voice, made my heart ache.
I knew that Zack had a troubled past, but I had never fully understood the depth of his pain. At that moment, it became clear to me that he had been carrying a heavy burden, one that weighed him down and shaped his actions.
As I lay on the floor, contemplating the impact of Zack's words, a mix of emotions flooded through me. I felt sadness for his loss, anger at his father for causing him such pain, and guilt for unknowingly triggering his trauma.
It took me some time to gather my thoughts and find the strength to pick myself up off the floor. I knew I had to find Zack, to apologize and offer him the support he needed. I owed it to him as a friend, as someone who cared deeply about him.
I followed his trail, tracking him through the dense forest surrounding the abandoned cabin. The leaves crunched beneath my feet as my heart raced in anticipation. The sun had started to set, casting an amber glow over the landscape.
Finally, I caught up with Zack, who was sitting on a fallen tree, his head buried in his hands. I approached him cautiously, not wanting to startle him.
"Zack, I'm sorry," I began, my voice soft and filled with genuine remorse. "I didn't mean to hurt you or bring up painful memories. I didn't know."
Zack looked up, his eyes filled with a mixture of sadness and anger. "It's not your fault, Kathy. You couldn't have known," he replied, his voice tinged with a hint of resignation.
"But that doesn't excuse my actions," I insisted, my voice filled with determination. "I want to be there for you, Zack. I want to help you bear the weight of your past."
Zack let out a long sigh, his shoulders sagging as he slowly nodded. "Thank you, Kathy," he said, his voice tinged with gratitude. "I've carried this burden alone for far too long. It's time for me to let go, to heal."
And so, in that moment, Zack and I made a pact. We would support each other, through the darkness and the light, as we navigated the complexities of our pasts and built a brighter future together.
Chapter Twelve
I was running outside, being jokingly chased by my fluffy and friendly, white, cute dog. He was the biggest baby! I giggled and snickered until I backed up into two people. A 15-year-old with a 4-year-old sister. "I am so sorry!" I insisted until I realized how adorable the boy was. He has puffy, brown hair, and whitish-lake eyes. We both were awkwardly silent for a moment before I helped the guy with the books he dropped. "Let me help. I'm Kathy, by the way." Continued I. He grabbed some books north and south, and I picked some up left and right.
"Thanks - I'm Jacob." He said. "Friends?" "Sure." I agreed.
Later, I decided to introduce Jacob to Oliana and Zack. "Jacob, you're hilarious!" Oliana and I said at the same time. "Jinx." I interviewed. Jacob smiled. But, guess who was jealous and quiet the whole time? I think you guessed correctly.
Chapter Thirteen
Zack's jealousy was palpable as he watched Jacob interact with Oliana and me. His eyes narrowed, and a coldness settled over him. It was clear that he felt threatened by the newfound friendship that was blossoming between Jacob and me.
I tried to include Zack in our conversations, hoping to ease his discomfort, but his responses were curt and distant. It pained me to see him like this, consumed by jealousy and insecurity.
One evening, as we sat around a campfire, the tension between Zack and Jacob became unbearable. Oliana excused herself, sensing the brewing conflict, leaving the three of us alone.
"Zack, we need to talk," I said firmly, looking into his eyes. "Your jealousy is tearing us apart. We're friends, and that's all."
Zack's gaze softened, and a flicker of regret flashed across his face. "I know, Kathy. I'm sorry. It's just...I've been through so much, and I'm afraid of losing the people I care about."
I reached out and placed my hand on his, offering him comfort. "Zack, we're here for you. You're not alone anymore. But you need to trust us, trust that our friendship isn't a threat to what we share."
Tears welled up in Zack's eyes as he nodded, his walls crumbling. "I want to trust, Kathy. I want to let go of my insecurities and be a better friend. I'm just scared."
I squeezed his hand gently. "We're scared too, Zack. But we're in this together. We'll support each other and navigate through the darkness, just like we always have."
Zack's shoulders relaxed, and a glimmer of hope returned to his eyes. "Thank you, Kathy. I needed to hear that."
Chapter Fourteen
I looked at my red, crystal gem. It was dangerous, with all the chemicals that could kill everyone, but I loved it so much. I held it up, lying on my bed. Suddenly, Zack walked in. I tried to swiftly hide it under the covers, but he noticed. "What's that?" He raised an eyebrow, suspiciously. "Sorry, potato-mind," I said, using my nickname for him. "None of your business."
He stepped to me. "Princess, I'll find out eventually what you are hiding." He said coldly, using his nickname for me. I expected something like a slap on the face or a kick in the groin, but he suddenly kissed me and walked out of my room.
Chapter Fifteen
I sat on my bed, stunned and confused by Zack's unexpected actions. My mind raced with a flurry of thoughts and emotions. What did that kiss mean? Did he have feelings for me? Or was it just a momentary impulse?
The following days were filled with tension between us. Zack seemed to avoid any direct conversation about what had transpired, and I found myself feeling a mix of anticipation and anxiety whenever we were in the same room.
One evening, unable to bear the uncertainty any longer, I sought out Zack in his room. I took a deep breath and knocked on his door, my heart pounding in my chest.
"Can we talk?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
Zack hesitated before opening the door, his expression guarded. "Sure," he replied, stepping aside to let me in.
We sat on his bed, the silence between us heavy with unspoken words. I gathered my thoughts, searching for the right words to express my feelings.
"Zack, about what happened...the kiss," I began, my voice trembling slightly. "I need to know what it meant to you."
Zack looked down, his fingers fidgeting with the edge of his shirt. "I'm sorry, Kathy. I shouldn't have done that without talking to you first. It was impulsive, and I didn't consider the consequences."
I reached out and gently placed my hand on his, hoping to convey my understanding. "Zack, it's okay. I just want to know how you feel. I value our friendship, and I don't want anything to jeopardize that."
He looked up, his eyes searching mine. "Kathy, you're important to me. More than just a friend. I've been struggling with these feelings for a while now, and I couldn't hold back anymore."
A mix of relief and joy washed over me as I listened to his words. "Zack, I feel the same way," I confessed, my voice filled with sincerity. "But we need to take things slow, for the sake of our friendship and our emotional well-being."
Zack nodded, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. "I agree, Kathy. Let's take it one step at a time, and see where this journey takes us."
And so, our friendship transformed into something more, a blossoming romance that grew from a foundation of trust and understanding. We navigated the complexities of our relationship with care, cherishing the love we had found while preserving the bond that had brought us together in the first place.
Chapter Sixteen
As our love continued to grow, so did our determination to make the world a better place. We channeled our energies into activism, using our experiences and voices to raise awareness about the dangers of unchecked power and the importance of compassion and empathy.
Together, we founded an organization called "Light and Dark United," dedicated to promoting unity and understanding among individuals from different backgrounds and experiences. We organized workshops, seminars, and community events, fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance.
Our work caught the attention of influential figures and organizations, and we were invited to speak at conferences and share our story. We used these platforms to advocate for change, urging others to embrace the power of light and darkness within themselves and to use it as a force for good.
Throughout our journey, Oliana and Jacob remained steadfast allies and friends. They supported us in our endeavors, bringing their unique perspectives and talents to our cause. Together, we formed an unbreakable bond, a team united in our mission to make a difference in the world.
Chapter Seventeen
Years passed, and the impact of our efforts began to ripple through society. The world became more aware of the importance of balance and understanding, and the once-dominant forces of darkness started to recede, replaced by a newfound sense of unity and compassion.
Our organization, "Light and Dark United," grew exponentially, reaching individuals across the globe. We established partnerships with other like-minded organizations, creating a network of change-makers dedicated to creating a brighter future.
As for our personal lives, Zack and I continued to navigate the complexities of our relationship. We faced challenges and obstacles along the way, but our love and commitment to each other remained unwavering.
Oliana found success as a renowned artist, using her unique perspective to challenge societal norms and ignite conversations about the human experience. Jacob, on the other hand, pursued his passion for technology, revolutionizing the field with groundbreaking inventions that aimed to bring positive change to the world.
Together, the four of us stood as beacons of hope, reminding others that even in the face of darkness, there is always a glimmer of light. We inspired others to embrace their power, to stand up for what they believe in, and to create a world where everyone can thrive.
"Princess," He said. "Potato-Mind."
Chapter Eighteen
"Zack, where's Oliana?" I asked. "I haven't seen her." He said. But I knew whe he was lying. I was like an argumentive detective - wouldn't want to mess with me. This was after a few months Jacob had sadly died, leaving his british accent and appearence behind. I looked at his phone, and his background was a picture of Oliana. "I hate you." I said. "Wait, no, it's not what it looks-" "Bye, potato mind." I said, as I grabbed my bag.
Chapter Nineteen
Filled with anger and hurt, I stormed out of Zack's room, my mind racing with a mix of emotions. How could he betray our trust like this? And where was Oliana? I couldn't shake the feeling that something was gravely wrong.
As I walked through the halls of our shared living space, memories of our time together flooded my mind. The laughter, the tears, the unbreakable bond we had formed—it all felt like a distant dream now shattered by betrayal.
Determined to find Oliana and uncover the truth, I reached out to our mutual friends and acquaintances. One by one, they confirmed my suspicions—Oliana had disappeared without a trace, and Zack was the last person seen with her.
Fueled by a mix of anger and concern, I delved deeper into the mystery, uncovering clues and following leads. Days turned into weeks as I tirelessly pursued the truth, refusing to give up on my friend and the answers I desperately needed.
Finally, I stumbled upon a hidden underground organization known as the Shadows' Embrace. They were notorious for their involvement in illegal activities and human experimentation.
With a newfound determination, I infiltrated their headquarters, using my wit and agility to navigate through their labyrinthine corridors. The air was thick with tension as I moved closer to their inner sanctum, where I believed Oliana might be held captive.
As I approached a heavily guarded door, I could hear muffled voices from within. My heart raced with a mix of fear and adrenaline as I prepared myself for what lay ahead. With a deep breath, I pushed open the door, ready to confront the darkness head-on.
Chapter Twenty
The room was dimly lit, shrouded in a chilling silence. In the center, surrounded by a group of menacing figures, stood Oliana. Her once vibrant spirit seemed subdued, her eyes filled with a mixture of fear and resignation.
I stepped forward, my voice steady despite the turmoil within me. "Let her go," I demanded, my eyes locked with the leader of the Shadows' Embrace.
The leader, a tall and imposing figure, chuckled darkly. "Ah, Kathy Kwuinn. We've been expecting you," he sneered. "You always were the light that threatened to expose our darkness."
I felt a surge of determination coursing through my veins. "You won't get away with this," I vowed. "I will do whatever it takes to free Oliana and put an end to your twisted organization."
The leader's expression hardened, his eyes narrowing with malicious intent. "You underestimate our power, Kathy. The darkness will always find a way to prevail."
With a wave of his hand, the room plunged into darkness. Shadows danced around me, threatening to consume me. But I refused to succumb. I focused on the light within me, radiating its warmth and strength.
As the darkness fought against my light, I summoned every ounce of courage and power I possessed. I pushed back against the shadows, refusing to let them extinguish the flicker of hope within me.
In that moment, a surge of energy surged through me, illuminating the room with a blinding brightness. The leader of the Shadows' Embrace recoiled, his face contorted with fury and defeat.
With a final burst of light, I shattered the darkness, freeing Oliana from her captors. We embraced, tears streaming down our faces as we realized we had triumphed over the darkness that had threatened to consume us.
Chapter Twenty-One
Oliana and I made our way back to our shared living space, our hearts heavy with the weight of what we had endured. The truth about Zack's betrayal and his involvement with the Shadows' Embrace had been revealed, and we were left to grapple with the aftermath.
As we entered the room, the atmosphere was heavy with tension. Zack stood there, his eyes filled with regret and remorse. He opened his mouth to speak, but I held up my hand, silencing him.
"It's over, Zack," I said, my voice filled with lots of saddness.
