CHAPTER 6 — FACE TO FACE
It was him.
Mira's fiancé.
The man she had blackmailed me into sleeping with.
For a few seconds, I couldn't move.
I stood there with the coffee tray in my hands, staring at him.
He looked at me too.
Our eyes met, and my heart began to beat faster.
He looked at me for a few seconds before turning back to the shelf, as if he had already lost interest.
I nearly dropped the coffee tray.
Mr Williams and Amanda noticed immediately.
“Lisa,” she said, reaching for the tray.
I tightened my grip, but my hands were shaking.
Amanda quickly took it from me and placed it on the coffee table.
“I'm sorry, sir,” she said calmly. “It's her first day, and i think she is a little nervous.”
Williams didn't answer immediately.
He simply turned away from the shelf and looked at us.
Amanda looked at me before continuing.
“Sir, this is Lisa Douglas, the new assistant secretary.”
I swallowed.
“Good morning, sir.”
Williams slowly looked at me.
His eyes moved over me briefly before returning to my face.
I stood as still as possible.
I didn't know what would happen if he ever found out the truth.
What would happen if he discovered that Mira had manipulated him?
What would happen if he realized that I was the woman she had used?
My mind went back to that night.
I quickly pushed the memory away.
I couldn't let my face reveal anything.
Williams looked at me for another second before speaking.
“Good morning.”
His voice was calm and emotionless.
I lowered my eyes.
Williams picked up the file he had been searching for and walked toward his desk.
He placed it down before looking at me again.
“You need to be more careful.”
I nodded.
“Yes, sir.”
“This is a professional environment,” he continued. “I don't expect this kind of carelessness from anyone working here.”
“I understand, sir.”
Amanda stepped forward slightly.
“She understands, sir. It won't happen again.”
Williams looked at Amanda.
“Make sure it doesn't.”
“Yes, sir.”
He turned his attention back to the documents on his desk.
The conversation was clearly over.
I stood there quietly.
Then he looked at Amanda.
“What is my schedule for today?”
Amanda immediately picked up the planner from her desk.
“You have a meeting with the finance department at ten o'clock.”
Williams nodded.
“Continue.”
“At eleven-thirty, you have a meeting with the legal team.”
She turned the page.
“You also have lunch with Mr. Carter at one.”
Williams listened without saying anything.
“And you have a board meeting at three.”
“Anything after that?”
“No scheduled meetings after five.”
He nodded.
“Move the legal meeting to eleven.”
Amanda made a note.
“Yes, sir.”
“And I want the revised financial report before the first meeting.”
“I'll have it sent to your office.”
Williams nodded.
Then his eyes moved toward me.
“You can go.”
My heart almost jumped with relief.
“Yes, sir.”
I turned around and walked out of the office.
I closed the door gently behind me.
The moment I stepped outside, I released the breath I had been holding.
I walked toward my desk, trying to keep my steps normal.
Then I noticed someone sitting on the sofa opposite our desks.
It was a man.
He looked relaxed, with one arm resting on the back of the sofa while he looked around the office.
I had never seen him before.
I slowed down as I approached my desk.
He looked at me.
“You're new.”
I stopped.
“Yes.”
He smiled slightly.
“Assistant secretary?”
I nodded.
“Yes.”
He leaned back on the sofa.
“I thought so.”
“Can I help you with anything?”
He shook his head.
“No, you don't need to worry. I can help myself.”
I wasn't sure what he meant, so I simply nodded.
He looked at me for another moment.
“I'm Tim.”
“Lisa.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you too.”
He glanced toward the CEO's office.
“Is my brother inside?”
My eyes widened slightly.
“Your brother?”
He nodded.
“ Mr Williams your boss.”
“Oh.”
I immediately understood.
“Yes, he's inside with amanda.”
“I'll wait here.”
I nodded and returned to my desk.
For a moment, I considered whether I should offer him anything.
Since I was supposed to assist with office duties, I thought it would be polite.
“Would you like some coffee?”
He looked at me.
“Sure.”
I stood up.
“How do you take it?”
“With a lot of milk.”
I nodded.
“Okay.”
I walked toward the coffee machine and prepared it.
As I make the coffee, I tried to push everything that had just happened out of my mind.
I couldn't spend my first day panicking.
I had to act normal.
I finished the coffee and carried it over to him.
“Here you go.”
He took the cup.
“Thank you.”
“You're welcome.”
He took a sip and nodded.
“Good coffee.”
I smiled politely.
“Thank you.”
I returned to my desk.
A few minutes later, Amanda came back.
She looked at Tim and immediately smiled.
“Tim.”
He stood up slightly.
“Amanda.”
“You're here early.”
“Yeah. I came to see my brother.”
Amanda nodded.
“How is everything?”
“Fine.”
She looked at the coffee in his hand.
“You got coffee?”
Tim pointed toward me.
“Your new assistant made it.”
Amanda looked at me.
“You made coffee for Tim?”
“Yes.”
She smiled.
“Good.”
Tim finished the coffee and stood up.
“I'll go see him.”
Amanda nodded.
“Go ahead.”
He walked toward the CEO's office and knocked before entering.
I watched him disappear through the door.
Then I looked back at my computer.
Amanda returned to her desk and sat down.
For a few minutes, she worked quietly.
I tried to do the same.
But I could feel a question coming.
I wasn't sure why.
Maybe it was the way she had looked at me earlier.
Then she turned toward me.
“Lisa.”
I looked at her.
“Yes?”
She studied my face for a moment.
“Have you met Mr. Williams before?”
My heart stopped.
I slowly looked at her.
“What?”
“Mr. Williams.”
She repeated the question.
“Have you met him before?”
