warning strong language. *** My name is Cassie Cabit, and this is where my life ends, and my story begins. * * * "I hate your mother she was a no good whore." He screams as I think to myself he is drunk again. He only acts like that when he is drunk, but then again he’s always drunk. I’m ten years old and my mother died when I was three. My father never told me anything about her except how much he hated her. He never wanted children. They were in their early 20’s when they had me. I was needless to say an accident. But 5 years ago he met and married my step mom Vanessa. She is kind and puts up with his nonsense to protect me. On more than one occasion she has taken a beating for me. The door opens. She’s home from her shift at the hospital " Honey are you home, from work?" She calls out. She enters the room and shuts the door behind her. She see my father standing over me in the kitchen screaming. She motions for me to run. As I take off she tries to distract him. "Why do you take your anger out on your daughter she did nothing wrong!” “ That b***h had it coming she knocked my glass of whiskey off the table!” He spat back “Then why are you screaming about her mother? What does her dead mother have to do with the shattered glass?” As he turns around to face her I catch out the corner of my eye he is going to hit her. As I run to the stairs I scream..."MOMMA" she notices too late. He hits her so hard she falls to the floor. Cupping her face she stands and starts to shout at him. “ what the hell James? How the hell am I gonna explain if this bruises at work huh? What is wrong with you?” I run as fast as I can around the corner and up the stairs. Into my room and to my closet. I open the door, step in and shut it behind me. I move some of the toats to reveal the ventilation grate. The grate is broke so I open it and go inside the opening just big enough for me to fit, but before I shut it I move the toats back to where they were. I shut the grate and move back. I hear my father coming up the stairs and into my room "Where are you baby girl?" He says sweetly. I know he is just pretending. A few moments later the closet door swings open with a loud crash. In a panic I move back farther. My step mother runs into my room, and starts yelling. My father turns and swings at her she ducks. He misses, but he swings again and connects with her stomach. She falls to the floor clutching her stomach. He doesn’t know that shes pregnant. He’d kill her if he knew. I move back farther. The toats seem to have been thrown across the room. They hit the floor with multiple loud cracks. It sounded like they broke open. She’s up and pulling at his clothes to get him to back away. He threatens to hit her again. I scream "STOP IT!" as I crawl to the opening that he had ripped into the wall while ripping off the door to the vent. She tries to pull him away from the opening once again. My father grabs ahold of her and hits her until she’s unconscious then throws her limp body across the room. He snatches me from the floor by my shirt it rips. He then grabs me by the hair. I start screaming and struggling. “LET GO DADDY THAT HURTS!” Sobbing he’s dragging me through my room and down the stairs. I thud down the stairs I screaming as my tail bone hits each stair. We reached the living room my step mother regains consiousness. She starts to yell “ LEAVE OR IM CALLING THE POLICE!” . He drops me and walks back upstairs to my room. I scramble to my feet and dial 9-1-1. I hear muffled screaming she’s hitting him with something as I hear him yell out. The phone connects to the dispatcher.
