Episode 1 - Sophiya
Sophia stood at the top of her penthouse, taking in the sights of the city from above. New York, a city of towering steel and glass structures, each flashing with colors and lights. The buildings themselves were alive and moving, their lights flickering and twinkling, their steel frames stretching and shifting. The city blinked like a giant metropolis powered by electric life, waking and alive. The sidewalks were littered with trash and abandoned cars, its buildings old, some in ruin and others boarded up. The air is blue with smog and heavy with the stench of urine and graffiti, while the skyline is dominated by towering buildings. The sun sets as it pierces through the skyscrapers like a knife, using the west and north as its handle and tip. The sidewalks bustle with people, weaving through the crowd like a river meant to flow. This was the city of the Bucknors. Mr. Steve Bucknor had made their family fortune from Real estate and owned half of the city. He had lost his wife Sophia's mother to a plane crash when she was sixteen. Sophia was their only daughter and she was now twenty-eight years of age. Sophia was a stunning beauty with piercing blue eyes and long golden hair. Her reputation in the city preceded her, known for her impeccable taste in fashion and her reputation for throwing the most lavish parties. But despite her father's wishes for her to settle down with a suitor he had chosen for her, she had no such plans. Sophia was a free spirit who longed for excitement and adventure beyond the confines of the Bucknor's luxurious penthouse apartment. She had always felt suffocated by her father’s expectations and the pressure to uphold their family legacy. Despite his efforts to control her future, Sophia had secretly been exploring the city on her own, immersing herself in the vibrant culture and hidden underbelly of New York. Sophia must have been there taking in the sights of the city and scrolling through her phone for the last hour when a sudden chill ran down her spine. In a distant corner of their Penthouse house, she could hear her father's voice calling to her. She froze and took a deep breath, knowing what was to come. With a sigh, she got up, determined to face whatever was coming, and walked slowly toward the living area. As she rounded the hallway corner and saw her father, Steve Bucknor, standing there with a serious face, her heart sank. "Sophia," he said, looking her in the eye. "We have to talk about your future." Sophia's heart raced as she felt a dread wash over her. She knew what was coming next. Her father was going to talk to her about marriage, a topic she had been avoiding for months now. She braced herself before her father spoke again. "You know it's time to think about finding a good match," he said, his voice gentle but firm. "We can't keep putting it off, it’s your future" The silence in the room had changed, the air almost electric. Sophia knew the conversation was about to take a turn she had been dreading for months. Her father, one of the most respected and successful businessmen in New York, had been hinting at her future since she had come of age. But now it seemed he was finally gathering the courage to make it into a command. Sophia felt her stomach clench. She knew there was no arguing with his logic, but she couldn't help but feel a spark of resentment. Don’t you mean your future? She thought. Don’t pretend like you’re doing this because of me – you’re only doing it to preserve your legacy, forcing on me the topic of marriage. Sophia folded her hands in her lap, her posture rigid. “Yes, Father,” she said. He nodded, satisfied, and handed her a stack of papers. “I’ve made some inquiries,” he said. “Take a look and let me know what you think.” Sophia took the papers, her hands shaking. She scanned the list of potential suitors – all from wealthy, prominent families just like hers. She felt a surge of emotions – anger, frustration, and sadness. But she also felt a stirring of something else – a small spark of hope. Maybe, just maybe, she could find someone on this list who would give her the respect and freedom she desired so desperately. If nothing else, at least she was being given some sort of choice. All these thoughts raced through her mind as she studied the list before her. It was a strange concoction of men from all over the world. Some were wealthy, some were influential, and some were both. All in all, it was a list full of possibilities but no guarantees. She had more than ever wanted to marry for love, not for power or position. But with no man and no love in her life other than her love for art, fashion, and partying, she wondered if this might be the only chance she had at finding a partner. Still, she couldn't help but feel a flicker of excitement course through her veins as she considered this new prospect of meeting someone with whom she could potentially share her life. With a deep breath, she gave the list one last look, and then decided it was time to take a leap of faith. Sophia had always been a good daughter and had obeyed her father's wishes without question, so it was no surprise she eventually relented and agreed to meet her potential suitors at the Gala they were organizing at the Bucknor family Mansion. As her father Mr. Bucknor left, her heart was filled with a sense of trepidation and confusion. She felt love for her father and trust in his judgment but could not fathom why she had to be forced to venture down this path. The Gala would soon be upon her and Sophia knew that she had to take the necessary steps to make the event a success. She made a list of all the preparations that needed to be done and started planning her wardrobe options for the night, even though she had no idea what to expect from the evening. Knowing that her father and the family would be counting on her, Sophia put on a brave face and set about making the necessary arrangements for the Gala, in anticipation of what would come. That particular evening, Sophia was getting ready in a grand style. She chose a deep silk-satin dress in an emerald hue and even added a touch of fur to the hemline. Pulling her hair back into a sleek chignon, she applied a smoky shadow to accentuate her bright eyes. When her preparations were complete, Sophia stepped out of her room, her heels clicking on the marble floor as she made her way to the gardens. Her heart was racing, beating faster and faster as she opened the door to the outside world. It was time to meet her destiny. Sophia meandered through the gardens of their mansion, her eyes and her heart taking in the beauty of the setting sun. She passed by old acquaintances, greeting each one with a warm hello and eye contact full of unspoken understanding. The breeze gently rustled the leaves of the trees surrounding her, caressing her skin and whispering secrets that she knew nobody else would ever hear. Though the evening was lovely, Sophia couldn't help but feel a little lonely. She had stopped to chat with a few people, but none of them shared her passion for Art and adventure. As she continued her stroll, the weight of her loneliness began to settle around her like fog, obscuring the beauty of the day. Just then, a figure in the distance caught her eye. He was tall, his face lit up with a soft smile, and his hands were tucked away in the pockets of his coat. He was talking to her father, and as she looked on, she thought she could make out a glint of something familiar in his eyes. She had not seen him approach, yet there he was, striding confidently ahead of her. He was dressed in a tailored suit, and his skin was sun-kissed and golden, with a hint of a five o'clock shadow. His eyes were a brilliant blue, and they sparkled as he smiled at her. He came to a stop in front of her and smiled even wider. “I heard you were an art lover looking for an adventure,” he said to her in a voice that was at once firm and commanding. “I believe I can provide you with one.” The man paused for a moment, and then added, “My name is Andrew. You should come by my place sometime and see my collections.” Sophia recognized him immediately as one of the many suitors her father had penned on the list, his love for art piqued her interest. There was something about Andrew that captivated her; perhaps it was his assurance or the twinkle in his eye. Before she knew it, she had nodded in agreement. She had been searching for an adventure, and now she had found one.  She had wanted excitement, and adventure and that's what she had been given. Andrew was a charming, confident man, and there was something about him that interested her. Before she knew it, she had agreed to a date with him. Now, as they finished their conversation and the night drew to a close, Sophia was left feeling confused. He had been rude and full of himself, but she had already agreed to a date. All she could do now was hope it wouldn't be a mistake. Andrew stood from his chair, towering over her. He gave her a slight bow and a mischievous smile. "Until next time," he said, before turning and striding out of the building. Sophia watched him go, her mind still filled with doubt. Did she want to go out with this man? Was this the kind of adventure she wanted? She sighed, knowing there was no going back now. She had already agreed, and she didn't want to disappoint her father. Taking a deep breath, she stood and made to retire to her room. The gala was over. Whatever happened next, she had to face it head-on. She had high hopes for this evening, but her search for a suitor was going to continue after all. She wondered if she ever was going to find the right person.
