[Chapter 1] ASHLEY 'S POV "you are no girl I would want to date" chris said Instantly my heart sank, I looked at him teary eyed. he looked at me tilting his head and smirking. "Do you really think I like you?" I stood there staring blankly at him for a while unable to say anything, students started to gather around us laughing as he continued his insults. "like come on, look at you! your fat and ugly" he spit. I knew I wasn't the smallest girl in the world, I had curves. "I have been stress eating" a tear fell down my cheek while I thought. suddenly a guy steps in front of me "what do you think you're doing" he says to Chris. I stared up at this stranger in front of me with tears still falling from my eyes. "are you okay" he whispered to me. all I did was nod like an i***t. "get the f**k out of here kai, this doesn't involve you" Chris says kinda pissed "Kai" his name rolled off my tongue."it involves me now, get the f**k out of here Chris" he basically growled which made me shiver. everyone around us felt the tension grow along with kais anger."I will not repeat myself" kai spits out. Chris looked scared and embarrassed."f*ck you kai and you b***h" he pointed to me "I'll catch you later" and with that he walked away along with the crowd. The bell rang and kai turned to me and looked at me kinda pitifully "are you good?" he said staring at me. he looked straight to my soul. "yeah I'm used to it by now" I sniffed thinking later this was going to be posted on the school's website. I gave him a forced smile and said "sorry you had to do that, I'll repay you one day" I paused "I should go" I turned on my heels and bolted for the front doors and ran all the way home. as expected the video was posted online and blew up, all I read were hundreds of mean and hateful comments and over the next few weeks I stopped going to school because the bullying and torture got so bad. All together I just stopped going completely for the rest of my Junior year. ASHLEY'S POV *END OF FLASHBACK* I shake the bad feelings from my thoughts and get out of the shower, "Today is the first day of senior year" I say to myself as I look at myself in the mirror I've changed completely, I've lost weight, a lot of it and I'm curvy in every way, my hair is shiny and Ive gained some type of confidence, everything about me is different. to be honest I don't know how it's possible. last year I was nothing like this, I was chunkier and my hair and eyes were dull but now, looking in the mirror I'm just magically different, over the course of last year my body went through a transformation and I'm not complaining. I just feel different. I smile at myself and walk in my room to get dressed. "ASHLEY!" YOUR GONNA BE LATE ON YOUR FIRST DAY! I hear my adopted mom yell to me from downstairs. "COMING!" I yell as I put my combat boots on, I give myself one look in the mirror and sigh to myself. "I can do this" and I head downstairs. "There you are" my mom says as she stairs at me in awe "mija! you look beautiful" I blush and try to ignore her compliment, I'm Try ok. "Good morning mom" I go to kiss her on her cheek. "today is the day sweetheart, are your excited?" she says passing me some breakfast as I sit down "no" I groan and take a bite of eggs. "mija it will be great this year, last year is behind you. No one probably remembers" she looks at me lovingly. I sigh I know she means well and I'm glad she cares. even tho I'm not her real daughter she's cared for me all this time. I was left on her doorstep when I was a few months old, I know it sounds cliche but it's true. ever since then she's raised me the best she could. her husband died a year before she found me and she always says he left me behind for her. "I know mama" I go to hug her "I'm just nervous is all" she pulls me in tight and says "it's your senior year, enjoy yourself. you won't know these people probably for the rest of your life" she kisses my cheek "now get a move on and don't forget your pain medication" she yells as I run to grab my helmet and my bike keys. I intentionally left the medication because I felt I didn't need it, I haven't had a headache in over 2 months. I take a deep breath as I crank my bike up "you can do this" I take off to school. As I ride up to the front of the school, I get a numb feeling. "God I don't wanna be here" I say as I park and get off my bike. "people are staring" I say internally. "hey b*itch" I hear a familiar voice yells out and i freeze and mentally groan "oh here we go I try to ignore him and continue to walk into the school but he rushes up to me and pushes me into the wall "I'm talking to you" he says up against my neck. I feel bile in my throat feeling I'm going to puke. "what, you don't wanna say anything?" Chris says "I-" is all I could say before a teacher came out and called out. "that's enough! go to class both of you, the blang rang minutes ago" I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. Chris moves to the side and I make a dash for the front door. I finally arrived to my first class and I open the door. "nice of you to join us, ms ?" The teacher said "Ashley" I replied "Ms Ashley, please have a seat" I nodded embarrassed while some students snickered. I walk to the back of the class and sit in the only seat available next to a guy with his head down. when I sat down some of the girls looked at me jealously and disgustedly, I just looked down confused, "what the heck did I do? I said quietly "ignore them" the voice beside me says. I look over to see the guy looking at me while his head is still layed on his desk "excuse me?" I say quietly and confused "ignore them, there just mad your sitting here" he says now looking at me curiously. I shift in my seat, his gaze is intimidating but it draws me in, I look away quickly and mutter "mm" the rest of my classes were just as the first, a lot of stares and whispers, a few of the guys whistling at me and the girls looking at me weirdly. It's lunch time and so I head to the cafeteria and grab my lunch as soon as I come to sit down I see Chris "s**t" I bolt for the door to the outside to avoid him and his friends. I find a tree at the end of the school property facing the edge of the forest and I sit and start eating my lunch, I always feel at peace near nature. it's like it calls me. I have a free period after lunch so I just stay at the tree, after a while I get up and start to walk into the forest. it's the middle of fall so the forest is so pretty. I wonder around a little bit and found a patch of light shining through the trees and I go to lay down in it, after awhile I hear a rustling I shoot up alerted and scan where the sound came from. "hello?" I say quietly and I hear it again, so I stand getting ready to bolt out of there. I'm fast, really fast. I hear it again and as I'm about to run the guy from my homeroom class comes through the brush. "relax it's just me" he says as I sigh relieved it wasn't someone bad or some wild animal. "did I scare you?" he walks up to me and I finally get a good look at him. he's handsome, no, he's hot! his eyes are golden and his skin is sunkissed, he has broad shoulders and dark sandy hair, a chisel face. "your staring Ashley" he says snapping me out of my thoughts, he's much closer then I thought. I look up at him. "ah sorry, wait, you know my name?" I frowned and grew queasy "I thought people forgot about that" I say "they did" he said serious "there talking about how different you look" he said while smirking I looked at him surprised and smiled and I swear I saw him blush. suddenly he got closer and I started backing up and he got closer until my back was up Against a tree. I thought while blushing harder "I've waited for your return since you disappeared last year" I stay silent at that comment and remembered this was KAI! the guy who helped me during that incident. "i-" is all I could get out before the bell for our last period rang "damnit" he muttered under his breath as he backed away. "come on, I'll walk you to your next class" I said nothing as I was still internally screaming and followed him back to the school, as we walked through the hallways people were whispering and pointing, kinda made self-conscious, I wasn't used to the attention but I knew kai was, he was the most popular guy In school. We finally arrived at my classroom "thank you for walking me here" I shifted where I stood nervously "of course, give me your phone" kai said. looking at him confused I say "what, why?" "so I can call you" he says unbotherd I hand him my phone. "people are staring" I say nervously. "as I said earlier, let them stare little lone wolf" he said amused "call me if need me" and with that he walked away chuckling. " "thanks kai" I say quietly and walked in the class quickly not noticing that my last class of the day was with Chris and his crew. "damnit" I bit my lip and sat in the front of the class. constantly checking the clock waiting for the bell to ring, I just try to listen to the teacher as that's all I can do. finally the bell rings and I hurry to pack my things, the teacher and most of the students are gone and I sigh relieved as I don't see Chris and his group of friends. I open the classroom door only to be pushed back into the classroom by Chris while his friends closed and cover the door from the outside. To stunned to speak I just curl up into myself sliding down the wall in the process All I heard was punching and punching over and over and...growling? but I didn't dare look up. after a minute I felt myself being picked up by Kai? my head is hurting and my face so I can't help but slip into and unconscious state, all I hear before I'm out is "I'm here now my little wolf" then there's darkness. I wake up sweating, disoriented and my head is pounding. I swing my legs to the side of the bed and attempt to stand, but I fall instead. my mom comes rushing in "mija! you have to stay in bed" as she helps me lay down. "mama I had the worst dream" and I explained it to her. "That wasn't a dream my pento bean, you've Been out for 3 days" she says as she passes me water. I sit up immediately "what!" "lay back mija, your friend came and brung you home passed out. He was worried, I was worried!" she says caringly "you forgot your medicine " she scolded I ignore the last comment. I asked "your friend will drop it off tomorrow, until then your are not to leave your bed" I don't fight my mother's words and nodded. she gave me a kiss on the forehead and left my room I lay there analyzing everything that has happened and ended up turning over and falling asleep. KAI'S POV I groan as I turned over to hit my alarm clock not wanting to get up, I turn back over and close my eyes. as I lay there that girl pops in my head again. I instantly get hard "stop torturing me human" my wolf sol said he came to me 3 months ago, the shift was painful and lasted and hour or two. sol means sun in viking terms as my family is of that origin, he told me we were special but wouldn't speak more on the subject as he said the moon goddess will tell him in due time, so I never pushed it further. The guys in class were just gwaking at her and The girls in the class were staring at her, only cuz they were jealous, I never let any of them sit next to me. I hear her say "what did I do?" I ask and the bell rings and she's gone. the next few class pass like a breeze and it's already lunch, I grab sum food and head to the Forest that borders the school. I follow it for awhile until it leads me to a patch of sun shining through the forest tree tops and I stop in my tracks. "Ashley?" I say to my self. I sit there and watch her for a while,sol and I study her closely "she really is different" I say to sol and a memory comes to mind from the first day I saw her. flashback I was heading to class when I heard yelling and saw a crowd gathering, I walked over to see what was going on and a kid beside flinched at my arrival, I get that lots, as I am 6,6 and being of alpha Lycan blood my aura is overwhelming to other wolves and humans. I finally arrived at her last class, her bike was still out front so I know she's still here. when I walked up to the door, these guys I recognize a lycan wolf and regular wolf where standing guard, I Growled loudly as a warning and let sol shine through, my eyes flickering from golden brown to pure fiery gold. "MOVE" I say through gritted teeth, the both cower away from me, I swing the door open and what I see sends me into a blood thirst, I see Ashley bruised up and crying while chros hovers over her. Next thing I know I'm throwing a punch at him sending him flying, I see her slide down the wall. I walk over to Chris and punch him over and over and over in the face until I regain control again. I drop him to the floor and walk over to a now passed out Ashley and I slightly panicked. "she's okey, just passed out" sol says I mind link my dad "father I need and address of a girl named Ashley she's goes to our school" "what for?" he links me back "I promise I will explain later" I say threw the link. my father texts me the address "1428 swan rd" I text back "send a pack doctor there" I put my phone away and head to my car, I lay her gently in the back seat and drive as fast and safely as I can "hold on little wolf, we are almost there" I say look at her through the rearview. I reply back to him "I don't know yet" he says I pulled up to her house around the same time the pack doctor did and I realized this was the lady who owned one of the packs dinners house, a human, her husband was a wolf that was killed in combat during the war, that means she's Ashley's adopted mother, that means Ashley's the baby my father mentioned when I was younger she was found in the woods right before the war ended. Ms hamendès walked out to greet us both and looked panicked, "your father called" she spoke "is there something you need young alpha?" she says respectfully. I go to get Ashley out the car and her mother gasp. "what happened! I followed her into her house while carrying Ashley and tried to explainto her as much as I could. I lay her down in her room while the pack doctor checked her. "she'll be out cold for awhile" the doc said "how long?" her mother ask "a few days? it's hard to tell" the doc replied The doctor spoke again "you should go home young alpha" Ms hamendès speaks up and says, "you can always check in but Im sure you have duties to attend to?" "I do" I say while staring at my little lone wolf. "I don't want to leave her" sol says protectively "she is not our mate sol" I internally role my eyes but regretting it instantly when I feel a pain "is she?" "I don't feel her wolf tho, we should speak with father" sol says confused "father I'm on my way home, I have some questions?" I mindlinked him "I'll be in my office son" he mindlinked back "I'll be back tomorrow" I say as I look at Ashley one more time and head out of the house. When I get to the house, omega greet me at the door "good evening, young alpha" they bow. "good evening I say back as I rush to my father office. I bust threw the door rather rudely. "hold your horses son" my father bellows out "father how do you know if someone is your mate? I blurt out. he looks at me worried and surprised "what's wrong son, who is?" he says I start rambling on and on about all that has happened today and he is livid but also concerned with Ashley. "is she okey? he asked "yes" I say breathing heavily "okay son, how about we talk about this tomorrow after school?, when you've rested your mind" he suggests I nod my head, tell him good night and head to my room. I lay out cold.
