Monday morning arrives once again, we all meet up in our usual spot beside Cassie's car, that's when we meet the new girl. She pulls up beside us steps out of her car then comes over to us. “Hi I'm Caylan, I'm new here can you tell me where the office is?” she asks us. “I'll take you over,” I said. “The bell is going to ring soon anyway. By the way, my name is Kiera.” We start heading toward the building when the bell rings, “So where are you from originally Caylan?” I ask trying to make small talk which I've never been good at. “I'm from Salem, Massachusetts before you even ask no I'm not a witch.” She laughs. I just keep on walking, “Oh ok you're a long way from home.” I just kind of mumble to her. “Well at least I'm not the new girl anymore, I've only been here a couple of months,” I add. “Really where are you from originally?” Caylan asks with interest. “Portland, Oregon.” I answer“You're a long way from home also.”
“Yes, but this is my home now, the only difference is it's a lot hotter here,” I say. We reach the school building and I point at the office door in front of us. “Ok, now I feel stupid,” Caylan says. “I'm used to figuring out a maze to find the office.” “Yea I thought the same thing my first day. I hope we have some classes together, so I better head off to my English class see you around.” I say as I wave at her. As I sit in English listening to Ms. Hopkins, Caylan comes into the room and as usual Ms. Hopkins introduces her then Caylan comes over and sits beside me. After class, I introduce her to Cassie then head off to our next class. We ended up having the same classes together. As soon as school let out I invited her to my house. Dylan showed up a little bit later “Hey babe.” He says as I answer the door I kiss him back then introduce Caylan to him, it was at that point I remembered I didn't ask what her last name was. “Caylan what is your last name I never thought to ask?” I ask her. “That's right I totally forgot to tell you my last name is Adair. She answers cheerfully. “Well it's nice to meet you, Caylan Adair,” Dylan says and shakes her hand. “Caylan is from Salem, isn't that cool,” I tell Dylan. “Really I would love to check that place out one day.” He says. As we sit and talk on the couch Blaine comes home from Cassie's waves at me then spots Caylan sitting beside me. All of a sudden she stands up and goes over to Blaine and gives him a hug “Hey big brother I didn't know you lived here with Kiera?” She says ecstatically “I knew you lived in this small town but not here with my new friend.” She beams. “Whoa hang on your brother and sister,” I exclaimed, “But his last name is Redux and yours is Adair,”
“She isn't my sister, she is my half-sister, we have different moms.” Blaine hissed, then headed off to his room. We sit there staring at each other quietly for a long time. “Can one of you give me a ride home please?” Caylan asks as she stands up. “I can I need to head home anyway. I got a lot of homework to do.” Dylan offers then gives me a kiss on his way out. “I'll see you tomorrow Kiera, thanks for inviting me over, and sorry for upsetting Blaine. That wasn't my intention. I didn't even know he lived here with you. I thought he was still living with his dad.” Caylan apologizes. “It's fine I'll see you tomorrow,” I tell her with a smile. As they leave Dylan looks back at me and gives me the sign that he will call me later. I just stand there at the door waving at him. Blaine comes out of his room a little while later and asks “Is she gone yet,”
“Yes, she left hours ago Dylan took her home, what's up with you two anyway,”
“I'll explain later, just trust me ok she's not a good person, if you're going to hang around with her just keep your guard up ok sis,” Blaine advises. “Ok, I promise I'll be careful around her. Is Dylan safe with her right now?” I pleaded. “No guy is safe with that girl around them.” Blaine scoffed, sat on the couch to watch television. Mom comes in as I'm making supper and I start telling her about Caylan, Blaine along with everything else that went on today. “Really he has a half-sister he doesn't mention and warns you to stay away from,” Mom verified. “That's about right,” I answer “Well I'll look into her, did she or Blaine happen to say who her mom was,” Mom questions. “Nope sorry just that her name is Caylan Adair, from Salem, Massachusetts,” I say. “I'll see what I can find out tomorrow, and you heed Blaine's advice ok?” She affirmed. “I will be, I already promised him I would keep my guard up, but I'm still going to see what I can find out about her from the horse's mouth,” I say with a smile, with that I finish supper then bring the food to the table and call Blaine at the same time. Dylan calls later that evening apologizing about leaving so soon then telling me not to let him take Caylan home again. “She flirted with me all the way there I ended up speeding just to get her home faster, I didn't care if I got pulled over,” He stated. “Blaine told me that after you guys had left,”
“Oh good, you couldn't have warned me,” He laughed. “You really think it would have done any good. She was already in the car with you, but not to worry I'll talk to her about it tomorrow at school.” I told him. We said our goodbyes then hung up our phones, instead of me going to bed I pulled out my book of shadows and started writing in it.
Goddess, I don't know what is going on but I don't get a good feeling about Caylan. I can't figure out why just yet but there is something about her that I don't trust. It's not the fact that she was flirting with Dylan as long as she wasn't touching him then I would have a problem with it. Goddess could she be the witch hunter Elisi warned us about? Finally, I drift off to sleep, but it was far from peaceful, I dreamt that Caylan had my mother tied up on the same tree Aidan had set on fire, she was gathering twigs placing them around the tree for kindling then she lights it right in front of me, I try to move but my legs won't budge what's wrong with me, Mom! Mom! Mom! I yell. All of a sudden mom comes running into my room and I'm still yelling at the top of my lungs. “Kiera! Kiera! Wake up,” Mom screams, shaking me. “Mom you're ok,” I jump up, put my arms around her and start crying. “Hunny tell me what your nightmare was about?” “Mom it was awful, I dreamt that Caylan was burning you alive on the same tree that Aidan had tried to burn.” Mom looked at me with a shocked look on her face, next thing I know mom starts calling for Elisi, soon a mist starts to form “I already know what your question is my dear, and I haven't got your answer just yet, but I'm still looking into it. And Kiera is wary of her because she might be trying to find out what your weakness is.” Elisi tells us then she dissipates again. The next morning, I wake up drag myself out of bed with my nightmare still floating in my head as I stand up I feel my stomach go queasy on me I barely make it into the bathroom before I puke into the toilet, as I try to make it into my room I end up passing out in the hallway, all I know after that is waking up in my bed with my mom sitting in a chair beside my bed. “Mom, what happened,” I whisper. She hands me a drink, I take a sip which burns my throat, I take another. It feels better. “You passed out in the hallway so I carried you to bed.” She tells me as she puts a cool washcloth on my head. “I only remember getting sick in the bathroom,” I tell her as I take another drink which feels so good on my throat now. “That was yesterday my dear, you've been out for a day and a half. I even had the doctor come by and check you out, he even drew some blood we should be getting the results back soon,”
“What do you mean I've been out for a day and a half,” I yell jumping up fast. I shouldn't have done that. As I lay back down mom shakes her head at me as she puts the washcloth back on my head. “How about you try that slower.” She says with a chuckle. “The doctor thinks you might have food poisoning, do you remember the last thing you ate? “The last thing I had was that pasta you had made mom,” I answer. “Did Caylan touch anything you ate,”
“Omg yes she did when we were making a sandwich for a snack, she handed me a slice of ham and some cheese. Do you think she could have put something on it when I wasn't looking,”
“I do now, Blaine wanted me to let him know when you woke up I'll be right back.” With that mom heads downstairs to get Blaine. He comes up, peeks his head in. ''Hey sis, how are you feeling,” He asks. “I'm just a little woozy, but I'm ok.” I answer him.”
“I just know Caylan did it, I just can't prove it yet, just wished I could have warned you about her beforehand,” Blaine said angrily. “I'll never forgive myself for letting her hurt you, “Blaine I'm alive and I'll be fine, it's not your fault that I got sick it's a normal thing,” I say trying to calm him down. Mom walks in as we are talking, “Kiera? I just got off the phone with the doctor, he says it was just a mild case of food poisoning.”
“So we don't know for sure if she poisoned me or not,” I say. “No we don't, but it just means we need to be vigilant when she is around here,” Mom warns. I close my eyes and ask the goddess to watch over us with this new threat leering over our heads.
