Truth and Lies

 I can't believe it's been a year since we moved here to Abbot, Texas. It doesn't really seem that long ago.   And we still haven't figured out who this new witch hunter that Elisi warned us about yet either, we have ruled out Caylan as a potential suspect and now she has become one of my best friends even Blaine has warmed up to her now, he has even admitted that she has changed for the better.   Mom has even started dating Randy the County Sheriff.  So much has changed and some things have stayed the same.  I started doing my ancestry tree on Ancestry.com yesterday and haven't gotten a lot on dad's side but on Mom's, the leaves keep on popping up.  Mom told me I needed to choose a magical name when I am writing here so I chose the name Mohani.

I put my BOS under my bed and headed downstairs to eat breakfast, then I headed off to Dylan's house to help set up for our Saturday night circle. Dylan had offered to start hosting it after Aiden attacked us at my house. Dylan starts setting up the tables in the backyard while Lilith and I are making the snacks and drinks for after the circle. The evening came and went without any problems, it also seems that the magical witches in the group (Dylan, Cassie, Lilly, Karley, and I) have gotten stronger in our magic.  I stay late and help with the cleanup, kiss Dylan goodnight, get into my car and head home, as I pull into the driveway I notice mom is still up watching TV, "Hi mom, you waiting up for me again I see," I say.

"No dear just watching the news to see if you ended up getting into trouble," She pops off with a laugh. I laugh at her.  

"The circle went great tonight," I say, "It seems that the group's powers are growing," I mention.

"Really? That's great I've also noticed yours have also grown a lot this past year, almost as strong as mine," She beamed.

"Wow, you really think mine is almost as strong as yours is," I ask in complete awe.

"Yes, I really do," Mom says. I give her a hug and head up to my room to get ready for bed. I slip into my pj's then head to the bathroom and brush my teeth. I head back into my room then reach under my bed and pull out my Book of Shadows to write a little bit more before I go to sleep.

 I can't believe my mom said I was almost as powerful as she is. That has been a dream of mine since finding out I was a magical witch. My next goal is to be as powerful as my Elisi. Mom has been teaching me a lot of spells ranging from some easy spells for beginners to really hard ones that are even hard for the most experienced witch but they all worked for me. Mom was really impressed. I still haven't told her that I've started hearing people's thoughts, or that I've been levitating my coven during our circles, it's so hard to keep this secret from everyone. Caylan has also started to act strange. I'm not quite sure what's going on with her. I know that we ruled her out from being the Witch Hunter that's after us, but still, I don't trust her. She is up to something. I can feel it deep in my bones.                                     Blessed Be,

   The next morning I was awakened by my alarm going off. I dragged myself out of bed and looked out my bedroom window where I saw a strange man standing in my driveway. I ran out of my bedroom then bounded down the stairs and out the front door where I saw the stranger walking off. I go back inside the house and back up the stairs to my bedroom to get ready for school. I throw on some shorts and a shirt then slip into a pair of tennis shoes. I run a brush through my hair. When I make it into the kitchen I see mom putting on a pot of coffee. "Morning mom," I say cheerfully. "Did you see that strange man standing in the driveway this morning,"

"No I didn't, what was he doing,"

"Nothing just standing there then ran off when I came out of the house,"

Mom wrinkles her nose then asks. "Did you get a good look at him before he ran off,"

"No sorry, all I saw was that he had on all black from his shoes to the hoodie he had on."

"Well maybe he was lost or something, but as a precaution, we should start paying more attention to our surroundings again he could be the threat your Elisi warned us about. Also when you get to school ask your friends if they have noticed someone in their yards,"

"Ok, mom I will,"

  As I pull into my school parking lot I see my friends standing in our usual spot beside Cassie's car so I park my car right behind hers and walk over to them. "Hi, guys," I say cheerfully.

"Hi Kiera," everyone says. Dylan walks over and gives me a kiss then says "Morning babe," 

I look at my friends and ask "Mom wanted me to ask if any of you have seen a creepy man in your front yard,"

"Actually I saw someone in my front yard yesterday but when I went out to see what they wanted they ran off so I really didn't think anything of it, just a jerk being nosy," Dylan says.

"Well, I saw Mr. Creepy this morning in my yard just staring at the house until I stepped outside then he took off running." I will explain what happened to me this morning. "It was weird he was just standing there staring at the house,"

 Caylan, Cassie, and I walk to class together when Caylan asks "So what time are you heading over to Dylan's tonight for the Circle,"

"I'm not really sure about six. Why,"

"Oh no reason, just don't want to be the first one to arrive, that's all,"

I like it when school goes by fast like it had today, before I knew it Dylan was kissing goodbye in the school parking lot "I'll see you in a little bit," He tells me as he shuts my car door for me then kisses me again through the window.  As I'm driving to my house I see what looks like the creepy man from this morning talking with Caylan in the convenience store parking lot across from the school.

  As I pull into my driveway I notice what looked to be a note attached to my front door. I climb out of my car I walk up and pull the note off the door that read. "You and your friends are going to die watch your back, you Witches," I barely unlock the front door because I'm shaking so bad but I manage to end up locking it back after I go into the house, something I never do. Then I call mom half screaming half crying "Mom I found a note on the door that said you and your friends are going to die watch your back witches," I had to repeat it three times before she could understand what I was saying. "Ok dear make sure the doors and windows are locked I'll be there in a minute," She said soothingly. It did only take her a minute she pulled up with two other cruisers pulling in behind her."Kiera are you ok," Mom asks as she unlocks the door and comes in. "Was anyone here when you found that note,"

"No, I was the only one here," I answer. "I don't know who left it,"

The other officers came inside after doing a perimeter check of our property. "We didn't see anyone outside ma'am do you want us to check the house," Officer Baldwin asks.

"Yes please," Mom answers.

 So they split up two officers go upstairs and two looks around downstairs while mom and I finish talking on the living room couch."Mom, do you think it was the creepy man from this morning that left the note," I bawl.

"I'm not sure but we're going to take that note to heart, "Mom advises.

"I also asked my friends if they had seen the creepy guy and Dylan said he saw him in his front yard yesterday,"

"Oh, really I guess we need to see if this guy is our witch hunter,"

"I don't know mom, I'm still leaning towards Caylan being the witch hunter,"

"But I thought we ruled her out,"

"We did but I'm still not sure, she had asked me what time we will be heading over to the circle meeting tonight,"

"Really you're going to base that on her asking what time you're going to the circle, come on Kiera that' not a lot to go on,"

"Ok mom I'll tell you exactly how I know but you can't go freaking out ok,"

"Ok tell me,"

"Mom I've started hearing people's thoughts and I've heard Caylan's she wants our whole coven dead, something about getting revenge for Aiden," I finally divulged. 

"Really!" Mom squeals with joy. "Any other gifts besides that,"

"Umm no, why,"

"No reason just asking,"

  Just then the other officers came in "The house is clear Ms.Cormac anywhere else you need us to check,"

"No that's all thank you," She says."You can head back to the station, and I'll be there soon to sign the report,"

With that, they got back into their cruisers and headed back to the station house. Mom stands up and says "I've got to head by to work. I'm going to call Lilith to see if she can't come by and stay until I get home,"

"Mom I'm almost seventeen I don't need a babysitter,"

"I know but for right now I don't want you or your friends to be by yourselves even at home, I wouldn't mind so much if Blaine was still here but I'm glad he got to attend college it was also good for him to get out of this town,"

"Ok mom, I don't like it but I understand, someone's out there threatening us."

Mom heads back to work then a few minutes later Lilith and Dylan pull up while I'm sitting out on the front steps staring off into space. "Aren't you supposed to be inside the house," Lilith asks?

"I needed some fresh air," I say standing up. " So I guess mom filled you in on everything that happened,"

"Yes she did, she also mentioned a little power boost you have had," She answers then smiles at me.

"What power boost," Dylan asks, making an awkward look at me.

Thankfully his mother saves me from answering him."What are we doing outside in this heat let's head inside," She says, gesturing to us in the house. "And Dylan don't push her on answering you if she wants you to know she will tell you,"

"Yes ma'am," He answers.

I head up to my room while Lilith and Dylan stay downstairs and finish talking. I pull out Elisi's Book of Shadows flipping through it looking for anything having to do with hearing other people's thoughts, but as I'm doing that Elisi manifests herself at the foot of my bed. "The answers you're looking for aren't in that book my dear," She says.

"How do you know what I'm looking for,"

Elisi just laughs. "I know everything, my dear."

"Ok so tell me how I'm hearing everyone's thoughts please," I beg.

"I'm not quite sure, but if my hunch is right the prophecy is coming true," She explains.

"Prophecy what prophecy and what does it have to do with me," I demand.

"It goes way back to the women born in our family were all magical but the prophecy states that there is a child born every thousand of years that is the protector of witches or the Cosanto'ir she will have powers over all the elements and other gifts also she will be more powerful than any witch before her even though we are stronger than the generation before us that means that your already stronger than me and your mom but if you are the Cosanto'ir you will be stronger than your child," Elisi explains.

"Hang on are you saying I could be this protector," I scuff. "Come on Elisi I freaked out over a note that was left on the door, besides that look at me I'm scrawny 4 foot 3 inches tall, how could I possibly protect anyone." 

But Elisi just says. "Trust me it's you" as she dissipates into thin air.

 Dylan and I had helped his mom make all the dishes for the night's circle, mom pulled up around five that evening so we helped take the food to their house. We finish setting up when the other coven members start showing up. Caylan was one of the first ones to arrive which isn't surprising. I already heard her saying how surprised she was to see me there already. She was hoping she would flirt with Dylan before I showed up. I felt some tingling as I looked down. There were purple sparks shooting from my hands. I run over to where mom is sitting. "Mom I need to talk to you in private please," I beg. We head inside to the bathroom where I hold my hands out so she can see the sparks shooting from my hands. "When did this start," Mom asks. "Just a few minutes ago after I heard Caylan griping because she didn't have a chance to flirt with Dylan," I say still fuming over the thought.

"Ok you need to calm down, that's the only way it's going to stop, just take a deep breath and then slowly release it,"

It takes me a couple of tries but finally my hands stop looking like Christmas lights. We join everybody else outside where Lilith was already drawing the circle with the salt. I glanced over to where Dylan was sitting talking to Caylan, my mom noticed what I was looking at then squeezed my hand and looked at me "I'll take care of it just stay here," She then walked over to Dylan and pointed over to me after she did that Dylan stood up and started to walk over to me.

"Hey, are you ok?" He asks."You left me alone with Caylan, she gives me the creeps, I mean come on she knows I'm with you, but anyway your mom said you wanted to tell me something,"

"I do." I say with a smile."I just want to know that I love you to Infinity and beyond," Then I tiptoe up to kiss him. That whole time I can hear Caylan cussing up a storm in her head and to be a brat I glance over at her and wave with the biggest smile on my face. I can even hear my mom and Lilith laughing in my head which causes me to start laughing.
