Adrian’s POV.
I can't believe I agreed to babysit Elijah's sister at her Luna ceremony. It seemed presumptuous of him to order me to leave my royal duties to attend a Luna ceremony of such a small pack. If we weren't friends from high school, I wouldn't have agreed at all. However, I understand how much his sister means to him and his family. Besides, I heard that the king is eager to meet his daughter. I had no choice but to attend the ceremony to support Elijah and his family.
"Julian, let me know when the ceremony begins. I will step out then," I mind-linked to my Beta. "Yes, Alpha. But there seems to be some sort of tension between Maya and her chosen mate," said Julian. "Tension? Are you informing me of this now? I'm coming." I gave Julian a stern look. "Sorry, Alpha, the situation escalated in a matter of seconds," Julian replied.
As we made our way to the ceremony area, I could see three figures, and it was clear that the man was quite tense. He kept scanning around to see if anyone was looking. I saw a beautiful figure gazing straight at him, so stunning that I wished I could hold her. In an instant, I knew it was Maya. She was a splitting image of her brothers. I couldn't take my gaze off her. She couldn't care less that this man was almost begging at her feet. I could see that she was disturbed by the other woman as she constantly tried to approach her.
What didn't make sense was that this man clearly didn't have his wolf under control. As Maya pushed the other woman away, he grabbed Maya by the neck, I could see her already transforming into a huge silver wolf, still smaller than my wolf, Yoda. It was clear that she could handle him, but I couldn't just stand and watch. Elijah would kill me if I did. I rushed forward and grabbed the man from his neck, whom I assumed was her chosen-mate. It was easy to lift him up in the air. What on earth did she see in him to fall in love with this disgusting thing? She could have done much better. My voice roared as I demanded to know how he dared to hurt the princess. I was taken aback when she shouted, "Stop it!" Wait, she still wanted this jerk after he had clearly defended another woman?
However, when she asked me, "Who are you, and why did you call me a princess?" it all made sense. This man had never told her about her past, as Elijah had explained to me. He was taking advantage of her lack of knowledge of her identity. My anger, which was building up, was interrupted by Yoda jumping up and down with excitement. He was lovingly looking at her, and it all made sense. She was our mate. No wonder I saw her as the most beautiful woman in the world. If she had been happy with her chosen mate, I would have given up. But she wasn't, and this meant that there was nothing stopping us from claiming our mate!
I smiled at her, wishing I could claim her right then and there. But she's been through a lot, and I don't think finding a mate is on her agenda at the moment. However, she deserves to know who she really is. I tell her that she is the Norwegian princess who was lost 25 years ago, and that I am Adrian, the Alpha of the Silvermoon pack. I could see that she was shocked, but she held it together well, almost as if she couldn't care less. I don't know what she'll do with this information, but letting her know was the right thing to do. As for her being our mate, I'm not willing to let it go. She is mine, and we are meant to be together. I hope she'll be willing to give us a chance.
"I reached out to her wolf. Her name is Kiara," Yoda broke my array of thoughts. "She's beautiful, isn't she? She's just how I imagined our mate to be - maybe more beautiful and stronger than what I had imagined. Let's go get her now. Her wolf is not responding to my call anymore. It seems that Maya is conflicted. Therefore, Kiara is hesitant to speak to me." Yoda was so excited to get to know his mate. I felt bad for him; he had waited so long for this. But I had to make him understand. "Let's not rush her now, Yoda. She's clearly been through a lot, and looking at how things have unraveled here just now, it's clear that it's not quite over. She still has her chosen-mate, and their bond is still intact. Even though we could easily claim her, I still want to be her choice."
"Sure, let's wait," Yoda replied, but I could sense the disappointment in his tone. My gaze remained fixed on Maya, taking in her dark black hair and beautiful blue eyes. It was as if the Moon Goddess had made her just for me. I could sense her confliction, and it was understandable given the overwhelming information she had just received. It was clear that she needed some space to decide how to handle the situation at hand. Just then, my phone began to vibrate and I saw that Elijah was calling. Three missed calls already - it seemed I wasn't the only one keeping an eye on things. I answered the call to Elijah's yelling voice. "Adrian!! What's going on? I need to know right now. We're heading there in 3-4 hours," he shouted. I tried to calm him down.
"Calm down Elijah. Everything's fine. It's good that you're coming, but just come with the two of you and leave your dad behind. She didn't seem to know who she was or that she was related to you. I assume you guys were conned by the man claiming to be her boyfriend. Or, I suppose, he was her boyfriend, given how things have unraveled just now." Elijah seemed to calm down a bit, but I couldn't be sure if his anger was just building up, which could be dangerous. I could already picture him tearing Nathan to pieces, and I couldn't say I really blamed him. "Fine. I understand. Thank you for handling the situation for me Adrian. I owe you one. We'll be there as soon as we can." Elijah said in a neutral tone. I couldn't see through what he was thinking right now.
I disconnected the phone and walked towards Maya, only for her to walk past me as if I didn't exist. She went right towards Nathan, who was lying on the ground and getting up with the help of the other woman. This was going to be interesting, and by the look on Maya's face, I did not see a glimpse of love or care, but sheer hatred for the man she was going to marry. It hurt me to see her like this, but once she got over it, I was going to make sure that no one could ever hurt her and that she was going to have everything she ever wanted.
"My darling, I'll follow you to the ends of the earth if that's what it takes for you to give us a chance," I promised to myself.
