This Cannot be Happening

Nathan’s POV. Today, I woke up with the realization that it was Maya's Luna ceremony. Achieving this goal was important to me, but I couldn't help but wish it was Sandra's ceremony instead. I feel guilty for making her wait so long to become my rightful partner because she is my true mate. Although Maya is intelligent and exceptionally beautiful, nothing can replace the bond between true mates. My pack has suffered for a long time, and we need a hardworking Luna to lead us back on track, which Sandra may not be, despite my love for her. My wolf keeps demanding Sandra, preventing me from bonding with Kiara's wolf. I am aware that Maya's wolf does not approve of us, and I am relieved that Maya still chose to be with me. It took over a year to convince her to be my chosen mate, but I am happy that she agreed. Sandra has never been happy with my decision to choose Maya over her. However, she understands that this arrangement is temporary, and it's only until the pack becomes stable. My plan is to reject Maya and appoint Sandra as the new Luna of the Crest Moon pack, when the time is right. All we need is a little bit of patience, and everything will work out as I have planned. Apart from Maya's capabilities, there's another reason why I specifically chose her. It's a secret that I haven't shared with anyone, and it's also the reason why I cannot afford to lose her. A little over a year ago, rumors began to circulate that the Royal pack from Norway was searching for their lost daughter. I overheard my father discussing it with my mother, and he had learned about it at the Alpha summit that year. The Royal pack from Norway was in charge of ruling the northern part of the country, and according to what I had heard, they had lost their newborn daughter 25 years ago during the King and Queen's visit to Germany. The King and Queen had arrived in Germany on an official visit when they were suddenly attacked by a group of rogues who wanted them gone. The Queen was badly injured and remained in a coma for 24 long years. She awoke last year to speak of their lost daughter before peacefully passing away. During the attack, the King and his Beta fought off the rogues while the Queen was pursued by another group of wolves. She was unable to fight back as she was protecting her baby, whom she then hid in an orphanage near Köln. The Queen joined the King in his fight, and she was gravely injured during the altercation. The Royal couple had two elder sons, but the tragic loss of their newborn daughter and the Queen's subsequent coma plunged the King into a deep depression. However, thanks to the two capable young princes, things continued to run smoothly. The Queen's passing nearly destroyed the King, but the glimmer of hope that he might one day see their lost daughter kept him going. His eldest son, Elijah, and youngest son, Nico, promised their father that they would find their sister at any cost. The only information they had to go on was that the princess had a distinguishing scar just above her left eyebrow and that she had been left at an orphanage near Köln, Germany. It was then that I met Maya, and I was surprised to see the scar above her left eyebrow. Running a background check on her didn't take me long, as I discovered that she had been adopted from an orphanage near Köln. This couldn't have been a coincidence. She had the black hair of the Queen and the King's deep blue eyes, and was a spitting image of her brothers. I knew that she had to be the lost Princess. To confirm my suspicions, I obtained some of her DNA and sent it to the Royal Pack for verification. I couldn't believe my luck when the results came back positive. The Royal Butler immediately contacted me, requesting more information. However, I couldn't just let it end there. I could use this to my advantage. I started pursuing Maya, who initially saw me as just a friend, but I didn't care. This was working out just as I had planned. I informed the Royal Pack that Maya was my girlfriend, but that she had no interest in meeting her birth parents. The fact that they had left her at an orphanage had made her resentful towards her family, and therefore, she wouldn't like to meet them. I told them that I could help them get in contact with her gradually. I refused to share her details with them, saying that she would leave me if I did this. They could have killed me for this, but I just had to take a chance. Her brothers wouldn't be foolish enough to harm their sister's boyfriend. It took me a year to convince Maya, but she finally agreed to be my Luna. Tomorrow, we are having a small engagement party where we will register our marriage. I can't wait for this to be over. My days of suffering will finally come to an end. With Maya's support and help from the Royal Pack, I will soon be able to bring our pack to its feet. The only problem was Sandra. She had been crying her eyes out over this situation. I managed to persuade her that I would never betray her with Maya and that I would treat Maya terribly if it made her happy. I couldn't bring myself to hit Maya, as that would only make her leave me. However, I knew I had to find a way to get rid of her without arousing suspicion. I was certain that Maya would suffer greatly, but she was used to the cruelty of the human world and was unlikely to fight back. She would eventually withdraw into her grief, and I could inherit all that was left to her. I knew it was a long shot, but this was my chance, and I felt that I deserved it. With just two hours left until the ceremony, most of the guests had already arrived. I was certain that the Royal pack had sent someone to check things out. I needed to prove to them that I loved their sister the most. So I made my way down to the ceremony area, but what I saw next nearly took the life out of me. I saw Maya making her way towards me, looking absolutely stunning in her red dress. I couldn't help but wonder why she had changed her look at the last minute, despite my earlier warnings that the elders wouldn't approve. However, I knew I couldn't afford to make a scene, not with the Royal pack likely to be watching. But what really caught me off guard was the sight of Sandra walking beside Maya. What was happening? Why were they together? I knew I had to keep my cool and assess the situation before saying anything. "Nathan, are you alright?" Maya asked. How could I be alright? But I needed to keep calm. My only concern was whether the Royal Pack was seeing this. Had Maya found out about Sandra and me? But how? I had been so careful. I hadn't even mentioned Sandra's name to Maya. When Maya told me she had brought Sandra with her, I couldn't help but ask, "How do you know Sandra?" It was only when Sandra asked Maya, "Didn't you say that Nathan told you about me?" that I realized what was happening. This meant that Maya knew about us. How could Sandra be so stupid? If it weren't for the mate bond, I would have never approved of her. I couldn't help but glare at her. She too understood what this meant. I could see that Maya had figured everything out, but I had to win her back. I will do whatever it takes, even if it meant I had to beg her.
